Gabby Giffords' hubby, former astronaut Mark Kelly, is running for Senate to unseat Martha McSally in Arizona. His new ad is awesome. Too bad I can't vote for him as I do not live in Arizona:

I saw that the media was trying to spin the national emergency as smart or a win for Trump.

I can't wait to see how they react when a Democratic President does the same thing...

The amount of time the media is spending on helping Trump and on obsessing over Democratic divisions and how these are so wonderful for House Republicans is saddening. They will just keep pushing until they get the result they want - Trump reelected and a Republican Congress.

I have noticed the 'liberal' media is saying why other presidents have declared national emergencies and why all of a sudden it's a problem that Trump declaring one instead of focusing on the substance of Trump's national emergency.

I saw them talking about how he had managed to make himself look better by declaring a national emergency.

Amen. I don't agree with all of your posts about the media but this one is so blatant by the media its sickening. Trying to make it about how Trump is a fighter versus a colossal failure. I have zero use for Ann Coulter but at least she knows enough about the constitution and the National Emergencies Act to know this is all show.

And to the poster who claimed Trump is so picked on, read up on the NE Act. It was tightened up after Nixon when they were actually concerned after the fact about executive overreach. Trump makes what Nixon did look like kindergarten.

A National Emergency that requires funding but doesn't have time to work with congress to appropriate the funds is legal. Using it because congress denies you the funds is no longer legal. And if it was such an emergency, he had 2 years to work with an all GOP congress to get the money or how about he get it from where he promised it was coming from - MEXICO.

In the words of 45, "I didn't need to do this but I wanted to do it much faster"

That really makes the case for an EMERGENCY.

In more proof of our thriving economy, Payless is shutting down. Yet another store bought up and hollowed out by a Bain-esque company.

I saw on the news, the news from Japan, that is...that consumer spending is down, not the hallmark of a healthy economy.

This will be the long-term effect of the tariffs, and no wage increases, and so on. And while people love to claim most Americans are greedy, many people who stop buying things are not likely to start back up, even if they do feel slightly more secure. The amount of people who owe taxes this year instead of getting a refund will make that even more likely.

So The New York Times has to admit that Trump's national emergency declaration is unlike any of his predecessors, no matter what he claims.

For one, none of the other presidents used a national emergency declaration to thwart Congress on something Congress already rejected.  Trump did.  That is a fundamental difference.

Presidents Have Declared Dozens of Emergencies, but None Like Trump’s
