In the words of the late, great, out lesbian New York native Audre Lorde, “Your silence will not protect you.” No matter how we contribute, we all play a role in shaping the future.

When you go out of your way to marginalize and disenfranchise people solely on the basis of race, ethnicity, gender (or gender identity) or sexual preference, no longer can you say you are an administration or political party that aims to be for everyone.  If you do, you are committing a fraud.

Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde statement:
On January 24, 2025, at Washington National Cathedral, I will preside and preach at “A Service Toward Repentance,” a liturgy of truth-telling and repentance for harms done within our diocese to Black persons, from the enslavement era through the present.

Here is her diocese's full statement/description about the event:

(This was event was already long-planned)

She had the potential for more but stuck in a narrow lane. Now she has aged out of that lane, she's in a genre that has less use for women than it ever has, and she was never especially compelling in the first place - she had a good voice, but no charisma, and very generic looks. She can try to hobble to MAGA, but they have made it clear they hate women. Maybe she can do a duet with Jason Aldean about how she wants to kill everyone who lives in New York, Massachusetts, California, etc. but he'd probably go for a younger model. This is her last gasp. And gasping is seemingly all she was ever good at.

I know it's pointless but I do respect her for doing what she did, knowing the price she will pay. I am not surprised some on the left, who only care about performative activism and moral superiority, are too busy whining about her somehow stereotyping immigrants (even comparing her to the pathetic Kelly Osborne) to even appreciate her point. I suppose this is the end result of people who posture against Trump in public and beg their arch-Republican parents for money in private.

@DRW50  Didn't know Carrie's career was tanking.

No wonder Carrie is so desperate. She is returning to American Idol as a judge. This after she dissed ever being on idol.

Times must be tough.

Frankly, I wouldn't even say she has a good voice.  It's not BAD.  It's pleasant, but so are a lot of people's singing voices.

I still remember when she performed Heart's "Alone" on "Idol."  Again, it was okay, but you could tell how hard it was for her to sing something that was outside of her very narrow comfort zone.  I realized then and there that she'd never be a crossover artist like Dolly Parton or Reba McEntire.

Time may prove me wrong, but I think all these artists who have decided to take a "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em" approach to Trump and his supporters will find that just giving into the madness won't help their careers in the long run.  They're doing it, because they don't want MAGA to target them, but they'll lose more followers than they'll gain.

BUT -- in contrast -- January 2025: Costco defends its diversity policies
(the Costco board and the Costco shareholders)

Some thinktank wanted Costco to rollback/end DEI, The board said no,
and at the shareholders meeting yesterday 98% of the shareholders agreed to vote against the rollback of diversity (in other words, the shareholders voted to support diversity)

The ICE (immigration) raids have begun. They have stated plans to go into places like churches and schools which were traditionally off-limits.

They are starting with "sanctuary cities".

They raided place in Newark yesterday without a warrant.
Some of the people taken were U.S. citizens, including a military veteran.
They just don't care.

Question for the B&B group: I see @rsclassicfanforever has uploaded multiple seasons from Videoland  (in the folders that are to be put away). They are huge folders and difficult to download so I started breaking them down into months but I realized they are by season so for example, Season 4 spans from March 1990 to March 1991. Now I'm wondering where to actually place them, since we have the Full Episodes section divided by year, not seasons. And most of these seasons we already have in full, so these are duplicates. Not sure if it's necessary to keep the older versions. I could just make another new section for Seasons, so the main folders would be "Behind the Scenes and Interviews," "Clips," "Full Episodes," "Full Seasons," "Music CDs," and "photo archive Marquise" but I'm not sure that really makes sense. Also wondering since we have almost every full episode now if "Clips" can be deleted in its entirety, as it's nearly 300GB.
    • CBS moving Murder, She Wrote from Sunday to Thursday was straight up sabotage. Les Moonves knew exactly what he was doing.
    • I sure hope you’re right. The lack of sets is maddening!
    • I'm hoping that the new studio might have more space, meaning extra sets could be permanently erected. Perhaps the current  set issues are due to limited space available at Television City as it shuts down for the redevelopment. But if more space means spending more $$$ we might be stuck with the current situation no matter where they move.
    • Thanks @P.J. If my math is correct, Jordan Clarke runs were 1983-1987, 1989-1993, 1997-end.
    • I was/am mainlining both the Dream Season and Season 7 of KL together, since that was the year of their big creative swap. That's the most I can take of Dallas consecutively. But I've been very preoccupied with other shows and work IRL and I need to get back to it after a long break from my Knots binge.
    • Wk 1 95/96 MSW moves to Thurs, Cybill takes the Sunday slot. Thurs 8-9pm NBC Friends #3 20.5/33 The Single Guy #6 19.2/30 CBS Murder She Wrote #55 9.3/15 ABC Charlie Grace #74 7.6/12 FOX Living Single # 78 7.2/12 The Crew #80 7.0/11 Sunday 8-9pm NBC Mad about You # 15 14.6/23 Hope & Gloria #35 11.7/18 ABC Lois & Clark # 38 11.4/18 CBS Cybill #49 9.8/15 Almost Perfect #65 8.1/12 FOX Space Above & Beyond (2nd hr of 2hr episode) #51 9.5/15 60 Minutes was #19 so a lot of viewers didn't stay for Cybill. On Sunday, Sept. 24, CBS finished third on the night, and its performance among 18 -49 year olds was worse than it was with the older skewing Murder, She Wrote in the time period last year.  So moving MSW was a foolish move at that point. It was compatible with 60 Minutes and would probably have finished Top 20-25 for the week. They should have left Sunday alone and concentrated on other nights..
