Arizona will soon have union-busting laws that will make Wisconsin seem like a picnic.

You'd think if the far right is so successful in Arizona they would have less time for publicity stunts like Jan Brewer waving her finger at Obama.

Wow. You can't say Romney is hiding his true feelings.

http://www.cbsnews.c...-of-safety-net/

Isn't this the very same "safety net" that Romney and his cohorts have repeatedly pledged to destroy, and which so many in his party insist is full of lazy bums and cheats?

I guess this is another round of, "You stupid poor people, get a job!!!"

And as always no one will care.

My blood was boiling watching CNN's smarmy weasel John King pooh-pooh this with a panel of all repubs (can't have anyone from the left weighing in!) on CNN this evening. Silly Romney for using those words in that order, out-of-context, etc etc.

The DNC better milk this. I don't think it's out-of-context at all and it certainly is no more out-of-context than when Willard took Obama's quoting John McCain ("If we keep talking about the economy we're going to lose") and made it seem like a direct statement from Obama.

Romney refused to admit any wrongdoing, saying "Those were his [Obama's] words, that was his voice"

I guess Willard will have a different standard on this one.

ABC News with Diane Sawyer covered this, this evening, and the news piece could have basically served as a attack ad for Romney to be honest, right down to his most recent gaffe about the poor.

Sad thing is, I doubt the DNC will milk this for what its worth, nor will anybody really care about what he said unfortunately.

Which "safety net" has Romney (or cohorts?) pledged to destroy? I've followed the primaries closely and have yet to hear him pledge to destroy anything.

He's said that he wants to repeal Obamacare and replace (fix it) with a much more fiscally sound alternative. Not a bad idea considering our debt situation in combination with a very weak economy.

Although this statement from Romney provides meat for Liberals to repeat to the uninformed, he's actually right. The very poor already have medicaid, food stamps, WIC, section 8 housing, and so on.

If you can provide a source of Romney wanting to destroy any of these...I'll vote for Obama.

Most of that is being cut (especially on state levels), or the GOP have announced plans to cut it. Similar to unemployment benefits. I haven't heard Romney speaking out against this. His healthcare plans would also mean more cuts to the poor.

The GOP has said the social safety net just enables poverty. Gingrich wants to have poor children work as janitors for that reason. I haven't heard Romney criticize that either.

Proposed cuts will always come from the social safety net. None of these candidates has to directly say they will do away with the social safety net in exact words, it's just built into their platform. Privitizing Social Security and Medicare is always on the table for conservatives.

Haha!

I've heard Newt speak about that many times. It's not quite that simple. He has said that poor kids (or ANY teen) would benefit from working at their schools or with an after school program. Not ONLY as janitors, but in the library or offices. There's nothing wrong with learning to develop work ethic at a young age and to appreciate pay checks.

This is going to be a wild ride until November. These out of context and over simplified quotes are just ridiculous.

To no surprise, Mitt Romney won the Nevada caucuses last night. Apparently turnout was much lower than expected, which has been the case throughout the primary. I guess people know it's just a shell game and are looking forward to November.

Meanwhile, another media favorite, Virginia governor Bob McDonnell, who, along with Chris Christie and Mitch Daniels (and, until he ran a horrendous campaign and dropped out, "T-Paw"), has been seen as the great white hope for the party, will now get a hard right legislature to push the views he has been supporting for many years. Good luck to the people suffering through this. Do you notice how this is framed to make it seem as if these views are somehow being pushed on him and whatever choice he makes will be some noble decision?

All the controversy over Komen and Planned Parenthood ultimately led to the usual finger-pointing and a non-ending which appeased the press, but this article was better than usual for AP.

I never knew a lot about Komen, but from what I've read since this whole thing blew up, apparently they are against research into whether the environment causes breast cancer (toxins, chemicals, etc.)? That bothers me.

    • Which could make sense , except that we have seen Mariah function for years w/o any real residue pain from her upbringing. Josh decides to randomly make it a thing, when a good writer might foreshadow that for months. It's not like he's just arrived at the show. He's been there for years . Everything seems to be thought out only a few weeks ahead. It's like Phyllis all freaky from being kidnapped when she has done a million other things that didn't seem to bother her at all.
    • Unrelated, sort of, but he looks absolutely nothing like Amanda Setton or Dominic Zamprogna so it's kind of hilarious they decided to make Gio their kid.  It's very clear this was not the original origin story for Gio when they cast him. He is a very handsome guy though.
    • I tend to agree, although going back to OLTL, Frank has so often cast guys who are meant to be attractive yet come across as cold and dead, I'm surprised he managed to get one who has a bit of a pulse.
    • For all I care, the boy can parade around in a g-string.  It won't make this show suck any less.
    • AMC was about a decade later so things may have changed by then, although maybe they never approached her anyway. She joined Santa Barbara in 1985, when they didn't seem interested in bringing back Hope. SB ended in late 1992, so JFP could have asked her back, but I doubt she did. For as much as JFP clearly had some use for Rick Hearst given that she hired him on GH and kept him around as often as she could, I don't think she ever used Alan-Michael well. I can't see Elvera as Delia, but she could have worked well as Faith - she had a glimpse of a strong personality alongside warmth, which only one Faith ever managed (Catherine Hicks).
    • IIRC, FC reruns aired for awhile on Lifetime, way before the network became the Women in Peril Channel, lol.
    • PAM!! YES!!! You have jogged my memory. She worked at Cedars. She's mentioned in a write-up of Tim's history in the show. It says she was a nurse, but I seem to remember she was a secretary at Cedars, working for either Ed or Sarah. (It's almost 50 years ago, so I definitely could be wrong). I'm certain she was an unwed mother. I recall reading an interview with the actress, Maureen Silliman (I looked it up, that's her correct name, LOL). She started on the show just before the Dobsons started writing it. She was shocked to get a script that said her character had been pregnant since she hit town. I remember a scene where she told Tim she was going to leave SF for a better job for her daughter's sake (really, I think she was upset he was serious about Rita). I don't remember them getting married and leaving town, but according to "Who's Who in Springfield" that's how the characters were written out. Mattson did All My Children for several years, so she might have been persuadable. Here's an interesting factoid I recently learned on these message boards: Elvera Roussel was in the running to play Delia on RH when the show first hit the air. How wild is it that Mattson played Delia for a while? (Though from what I saw of her performance, she was miscast). It's hard to know if Roussel would have been a good Delia. You'd think she would have been better suited to playing Faith Coleridge, but who knows? She didn't get to show a whole lot of range as Hope.
    • If I were to do an EON reboot, I think I would start at the beginning, with Mike Karr leaving the police force in order to begin a new career as an attorney, and dealing with his wife, Sara's, crooked family.
    • I don't know if it was the writing or performance but I felt like we finally got to see the real Ted. Especially the way he talked to Martin when confronted, felt like a completely different person. He felt darker and like a total liar who was mad he got caught. I expected him to be remorseful and want to apologize to each and every family member who he came into contact with but he seemed like he didn't care. It completely changed how I view him and it makes me wonder if this is the direction they're going to take Ted in with the recast.
