OLTL: Discussion for the week November 10-14, 2008

A little dark- yet very compelling to watch.

Again, Susan Haskell arguably gave one of her best performances on OLTL- ever.

THIS is why I watched this storyline. I thought Susan and Trevor (I have never been a fan of Trevor's either) have been great and share a good chemistry.

It has been a long time where I have really awaited a payoff on this show.

This storyline has turned 75% of the people off, and for good reason.

But I cannot stop watching.

CAN YOU PEOPLE IMAGINE THIS WITH Christina Chambers??

I was just reading over at another site (are we allowed to name other sites?) that OLTL was the most watched soap on Monday November 11. Is this possible, and could just anyone have access to overnight soap ratings?

These questions aside, what does everyone think all this controversy will mean to OLTL's ratings this week? Up, down or the same?

Susan Haskell was very good today. Todd just came off very Chester Molester. The only one who believes he is truly a changed man is him and his grandiose ego. Nothing has changed, except he has gotten worse.

KA and Brandon Buddy were very affecting, and Andrea Evans did great work. I wish people would stop dogging her. I always preferred Karen Witter myself, and until she came back I'd, like others, dismissed Evans as a curio piece of daytime past. But she can do more than just comedy and camp; she has the classic chops for drama and sadness, and she can do empathy. It's a pity Tina has not been afforded more meaty material. I've enjoyed her return despite its major ups and downs, and I hope she will recur like Tuc Watkins.

I am just finishing up Tuesday's episode and found myself having some tears with the baby stuff. The scenes of Marcie/Starr/Blair finding out to Blair coming out to tell Dorian/Langston brought tears to my eyes.

Then the John/Marty/Todd stuff was intense. Going to go right now and watch Wednesday's show.

WORD!!

And Dale- I can see OLTL being the highest rated ABC soap on Monday. There is no way it was the highest rated soap. Where was this. PM me or something- I want to go check it out!

Susan was fantastic again today-- I'm loving this storyline now

the baby storyline has been pretty well acted so far, too, but there's something creepy about watching so many people handle that dead baby. I mean, touching its arm or its forehead while it's lying in that crib is one thing, but everybody keeps picking it up and holding it and walking around with it.

I loved Marty touching John's face when she realized that Todd lied about him. That was a nice little touch (no pun intended) I also loved the end with her arm around his neck. I really wanted her to just shoot her bastard rapist. She would have been 1000% justified

Susan Haskell is finally doing some noteworthy work, however, the ever brooding Michael Easton and lukewarm Trevor St. John are totally bringing this down. As for the baby side of things I found Kassie Depaiva, Brittany Underwood, and Robin Strasser to be most effective. I usually love Kathy Brier, but I found her unbearable in the scenes where she was holding the baby.

Weird acting choices is right. I realized one reason she comes off SOO unsympathetic with all the Brody stuff (when realy it's largely her fault) is because she still looks like she can't stand to be in the same room with him and every line she says to him sounds like her getting mad at him even when it's an apology

FF would be great in a young spunky girl who makes mistakes but emans the right things kinda way... like how when she first came on.

But this budding young heroine with heavy drama? no.

Shes just not a dramatic actress, isnt a bad thing, nuless shes in a drama role. And she very much is now.

Oh I loved this. Perfect. Welcome to "dumbed down, gotta get those younger viewers" 101. lollll

And I agree with Rhino-

Kassie especially was outstanding. I think it is just life experience that helps the older actresses give such understated, compelling performances. They really FEEL it. They don't have to go over the top and ACT it. Ahem. Bree.

Brittany Underwood is excellent. She would play a much better Starr in my opnion. They need to give this girl some REAL storylines. She could be a great heroine on this show. And there is no one else her age, other than KA.

    • There hasn't been a media blackout, there's been live coverage on national news all weekend.
    • There's been something of a media blackout, but beyond that the only reason it's getting any attention is because Trump and the Republicans and their sycophants in the press are trying to create riots to pave the way for martial law.  And of course all the people who care more about setting fires and destroying property than anything else are happy to help them.  I've seen more interest in people arguing about whether or not they should be waving Mexican flags and how American flags are tainted than I have in the cause, which just reinforces what a malaise we are in. Many who claim to care about immigration only care to the tips of their fingers, just like Palestine and the rest. But these policies what people voted for. As long as they personally aren't affected, they are eating all this decimation up.
    • I was happy to see Caroline again even in one short scene. This was her first appearance since April 3. I was wondering why we haven't seen her, since Hayley desperately needs a talk-to aside from Bill.  I am also wondering where Jacob's partner is. Does Marcel have an opinion on Jacob spending so much time on the Laura case? Especially since Marcel warned Jacob about allowing his family to get in the way of police business. I liked seeing some vulnerability from Leslie today when she begged Eva to give her the helmet and gloves back. I'm still wondering how she will get out of the corner she has been written into. When we were first introduced to Leslie, she seemed like she might be a Machiavelli but since then it's clear that she more of a haphazard villainess doesn't seem to have a long term plan aside from causing random chaos.  Chelsea's desperation is cringeworthy but I actually think it's fairly realistic for someone who is closeted or newly out.
    • Not to mention Leslie has made a formal complaint and requested a restraining order so there is a trail of her acknowledging that Kat is doing the most and basically harassing her. I bet that bites her in the butt   It truly is. Chelsea is 23 and doc has to be at least 30. She has too much to lose so I don't see why she'd even bother considering an immature social media girl thats already showing signs of acting unstable. She knows who she is so she knows all the mess surrounding her such as filming her mother shooting a gun at a wedding, not to mention the recent drama with her WORK colleagues, Ted and Niicole. Madison needs to not get involved with a daughter from that family. It just reeks o mess that could impact her professionally
    • I'm really sure now that Leslie is going to skate on the charges now that Kat stupidly broke in and planted the evidence. At this point Jacob probably won't even being able to tie that helmet and gloves back to Leslie because it's been moved around too much.
    • Seriously Drew is scum. Does he actually even love Willow or does he just like having someone he can control?!
    • Having them interact so much now has been such a treat. My new favorite duo. The desperation is such a turn off.
