The kid in me says I want GL ratings to go up (because I want Telenext to fire Wheeler and get someone in there that knows soaps).

The adult in me says I want GL to tank miserably (because it is so bad).

Thankfully, I have Kellogg's shredded wheat to help me make my mind up... sweet... not... sweet.... not...

Y&R sucks. boring wishy washy school girl characters. boring s/l's. scenes are plain. no action. no montages. music is cheesy and dull. the cast. with an exception of maybe two characters on the show. the rest suck. good balance.

GH. Rocks. kickass characters who fight with words and guns if they have to. entertaining s/l's. scenes are compelling and mostly riveting. lots of action. fantastic montages. cool music. best overall cast in daytime. balance could be better.

with all that being said. do the math. GH wins in all aspects except for balance. but it doesn't matter. with the characters GH does utilize are atleast entertaining to watch when you compare it to Y&R who only has like two interesting characters."victor/gloria"

Lest we forget, GH's writing sucks. And when I say sucks, I mean that it's really really bad.

Mob-light has become so benign and pathetic at this point.

Oh, and i disagree about the characters/actors. Sure, it has some greats, but the females that we most see are either boring, bland, and baseless like Liz Webber or Robin Scorpio or Nadine, or just plain ridiculous and very moronic like Carly or Lulu. They're all however hypocritical bitches.

The male characters take self-centered-ness to new levels, and have little justification for it, like Jason, Sonny, or Johnny, or they're neutered and emasculated like Patric, or also dumb like Ric or Scott.

That being said, Claudia is my favorite because she's bad, and she knows it. AND Sarah kicks ass.

So, yea, I'd like GH to go down as well.

Agreed with everything you said. Not watching much of GH but the writing and stories stink. the female characters pretty worthless, and the male characters self absorbed.

The mob on GH and all their alleged kickass characters have been non-existant for the last couple of years. While I liked this element on the show at one time, it has been written as cartoonish for at least 4 or 5 years now as have the characters involved.

I do also like Sarah Brown and hope she sticks around and they do more intelligent things with her character. Unfortunately with Bob Guza at the helm, I have little hope.

And don't get me wrong. I think Bob Guza was at one time an effective writer but I think his time on GH has passed and they need fresh blood to reinject some energy and newness into this show. The only thing good about GH these days is Nightshift. It shows me what the show could be if injected with a writer who cares about the history of the show and it's characters. And I do think that could apply to characters like Sonny, Jason, and Carly also.

I have felt for a while how great it would be if Jason left the mob and they built a real story around it, unlike what they have done with Sonny. I think it could add new life to the character of Jason and the show.

the thing is you can't really honestly say characters are badass on other soaps can you?... GH is the only soap that brings that type of mentality out of the veiwers because the characters on the show speak with there action.. as for the males. i don't know how they can be dumb. ric is intelligent. scott is a douche bag so i agree with that. sonny will always be a badass from past experiences in mob s/l's. i believe he earned that right to be called a badass. jason if you watched any of his past scenes with AZ/trevor. the shootouts he's been involved in. the guy is badass. johnny is a cool dude. i think he has potential. claudia is my fav too. and yes she's kickass. but what about Olivia? the newest cast member? carly is kickass. that woman can throw a fight like nobody else besides sam. and her and kate's chitchat two days ago when carly looked kate straight up in her face and said that she'll kill her in a calm and fierce voice. was brilliant just goes to show you that gangsta mentality of GH. for a minute there carly sounded like that chick from that tvs show sons of anarchy. "Gemma" but Anyway. i see i;m arguing with the same posters from a few months ago when i was last on so this is basically useless and repetitive to do all over again. btw. i hope the ratings rise. :P peace out.

1. There are more measures of intelligence than simple understanding of concepts.

2. I'm more badass than Jason is

3. Sonny is... I'm sorry, not going there.

But, this isn't a GH thread, and I don't want to take it over with any long winded discussion about all the problems with everyone on the show.

I'll discuss it, certainly I've been debating it on an almost daily basis elsewhere, but not here because this is about the ratings.

I will however say that the characters of old are certainly not worthy of praise today. Jason and Carly were my absolute favorite characters. At this point, I hate Jason and think Carly is a moron.

If I were to say what the underlining problem with Guza's writing is, I'd have to say he's a blatant misogynist. He has a serious issue with women. But he apparently doesn't like men too much either. Unless their names start with Steve and end with Burton or Maurice and Bernard, et al.

    • Seeing Nicole and Martin together reminds me of watching Alice with Mickey Horton in the 90s and 00s. The seem more like peers than mother and son.  The younger half of the cast (35ish and below) is playing younger, and the older half (35+) is playing older.

    • I'm anticipating most of the cast at the Nice location for a few weeks a la the Tuscan villa for Victoria and Ashland's wedding. I don't know why they bother. I'd rather see the money going into more regular home/office sets. This party has been a bust. No secrets revealed, break ups  etc. Ugly decorations and I'm going to slam the costuming again. Just the guests heaping praise on  Nikki  like she's achieved some magnificent milestone rather than just getting a year older.

In the loving arms of his wife, Dr. Marlena Evans, John took his last breath at the end of the June 2 episode, after suffering devastating internal injuries during a lab explosion. The iconic character went out as he lived — a hero. Sensing the fans’ devastation on Monday, Marlena’s portrayer Deidre Hall posted this simple-but-powerful message to fans on Instagram: “I know. I know. Hardest day ever.”

    • Now coming into June...well...   I knew it was coming but I didn't like the start to the next round of Dani/Bill/Hayley. As the 3 A plots from the start of the show (The SilkPress storyline and Martin's Secret being the other two), it needed to be benched for a while to develop those characters and allow other characters and storylines to grow. 3 months in, Hayley is the weak link, Dani is still divisive, but not boring, and Bill has been making his mark with some plots faster than others. So last week seeing the story starting to loop back around to them with Hayley's potential pregnancy, I honestly had mixed feelings.   I get it. The SilkPress storyline is currently in aftermath/next turn mode, so it has to be moved into a C plot position. Moreso if we want to keep the very talented Miss Trish around. And I love how clever the writers are being with the storyline. They give us enough in the episodes and are still playing out beats to keep the appetite fed. I don't feel like anyone is being dumbed down to keep her around. And Trish is giving nuances in her alone scenes with NuTed. I shouldn't care for a clear psycho, but she be selling it. That said...I wish they had given us a little more of the Martin's Secret storyline in the last week of the month though I loved the game of cat and mouse Bill did on Martin and Smitty to keep the storyline alive and active after it had a nice build beginning of May and vanished for a week mid-May. And it appears like it's about to go back to the backburner as an A plot which of course leaves the A plot of Dani/Bill/Hayley.   I am probably in the minority as someone who is not anti-Dani here and even she annoyed the heck out of me last week. In character true, but I just felt like there was a way to get all of that across without it feeling like...as I've said before...one step forward, two steps back...and have it feel organic. I liked Hayley got a little bit of edge with her, but she still ain't no match for Dani. And it reminds to be seen if we should be going back to that well of a story yet.   Now about today's show...   And I thought Tracy was bad! lol. But YES. Sharon has been worth the wait. And so has Anita's story! Finally having TT in the limelight. This has been a nice slow burn for me and a nice B plot. And the actress is good. The wig is giving. And her holding what Anita's secret is over her head and threatening to tell Vernon....Ooooo...that is what I was waiting for.    And speaking of bad...I thought Eva vs Kat was a great rivalry. But I am loving the rivalry that is growing with 'Nancy Drew' and Silk Press Sheila! They both get good licks in and are so cunning with each other. And I definitely have liked that since the anniversary party, that it has been growing. Now that Kat has been proven right, she has not backed down. And neither has SilkPress. And we got a 'Ms. B@tch' moment, too? LOVE. Eva coming up with a trump card was delicious and so 90s Sami Brady. GOOD. And the coda with Jacob and the expert...YES. The Silk Press storyline has been the best paced on the show so I love that the aftermath of the anniversary party continues to be so...barring one flaw...well for me. Not enough Nicole's POV.   And I like the C plots on display. And by that, I mean Chelsea with Vernon. And it made me wonder what the writers have plan for her love life now that the throuple is over with. I was watching her and going awww.   And of course the mystery man around Martin. I am starting to wonder if he really even works at the country club given how he made a run for it. That would be a twist.    Speaking of Martin...good to see him in scenes with his father and mother.    I'm getting used to NuTed.    I felt the last episode of May was a bit of a letdown, but this was a very nice recovery.
