Okay, I give up.

AOL's not gonna put EDGE back on their server, "TeleNext" isn't concerned with it.

Who was the Clown Puppet Killer? From the get-go, I assumed it was either Emily Michaels(the chick that took Draper in when he had amnesia) or my strongest hunch was Julia's nanny, Molly, the same chick who would take care of Jamey when Raven would call and yell, "I need to see my mother and I have to go to the hospital right NOOOOOW!"

It was Molly. The climax to the story involves her shooting Raven and planning to hang April. She hadn't actually shot Raven, so Raven startled her when she confronted Molly, and Molly fell down the basement steps.

I really liked that Cliff Nelson character. I miss that type of character on soaps. I laughed when he solved a part of the mystery because he took a porn magazine that Dorn had on his desk.

So I was right! It was Molly! I knew that bitch was sniffing around. She ended up killing Raven's mom, Nadine too. When she came over to watch Jamey and she returned and they were setting it up to make Raven look like she did it, I knew Molly drugged her.

What made Molly go off the deep end? Wasn't she related in some way to Emily Michaels?

I saw those clips on AOL(of Cliff finding Raven's letter in the magazine) and those were funny as hell. I loved the guy who played Cliff Nelson. He was a character that had his dumb, humorous moments, but not the way they write characters now(i.e. Spinelli). And on a shallow note, it didn't hurt that Ernie Townsend was sexy as hell.

*SIGH* And of course, I'm in love with Raven.

Yes, he was very sexy, the whole goofy hot guy thing is always nice. I read that they planned to kill him off in that story but changed their minds. He was let go near the end of the show's run when they had to free up budget. Supposedly if the show had stayed on they would have brought him back. It's too bad the actor hasn't worked a lot since.

The EON page says Emily was Molly's "surrogate" daughter.

This is a transcript of the day Molly confesses all to Raven.

More on Molly's motivations:

Raven's such a fascinating character, especially with men. Around the time of the murder she has a flirtatious relationship with married Draper (I think she gave him a big kiss on the lips when she walked into his house one time), she still knows how to get to her dull ex, Logan, she had a thing with Elliot Dorn, and then she had a no-strings sexual relationship with Derek Mallory. Don't you love a show where the biggest vixen/conniver in town can have a f*ck buddy relationship with the chief of police? I guess stuff like that is why they replaced poor Bill Marceau. And yet even with all those men you never feel like she's being degraded, you don't see any misogyny in the writing.

I read he works as Superintendent, Principal, or a Teacher in the New York area.

That's exactly why I was so drawn to the character. She wasn't some one-note psycho bitch. She was a character who had a long, complex backstory and the show, despite her malicious ways, never allowed us to see her as an extreme villainess or as a victim.

I don't think the writing was misogynistic for any of the EDGE female characters. I think they drew on alot of gender issues(Raven being seen as an equal to her male counterparts, Raven taunting sexless Deborah Saxon about her career as a cop), but this was never done in a way where you could tell the writer had utter contempt for women.

The characters on that show were so smart and clever. Even when Raven is backed into a corner after she loses custody of Jamey, she doesn't give up. And April wasn't some dumb good girl who always let people steamroll over her. Even when Raven begs her to take care of Jamey, April clearly tells Raven she's doing this for Logan. And not for her. She never really trusted Raven and Raven never pretended to like her.

The writing on this show was so honest and it never talked down to the audience. I'm glad I got to see even a little bit of EDGE to truly appreciate how great this show was.

I agree with you about the women, and the intelligence of the show. There's such a crispness and confidence in everything they do. And this was four or five years after they moved to ABC, when a lot of soap producers might have given up. It just shows you what a great writer Henry Slesar was.

I wish more of the CBS era were available.

I am delighted to announce that I am to be featured in a book entitled 'The Survival of the Soap Opera Genre,' being published by the University of Mississippi Press. In the book, I was interviewed about my 21 year love affair with EON. I was one of only two fans invited to the studio on the final day of taping in December of 1984. In conjunction with the book's publication, the editor/author and I have been invited to speak as part of the Soap Opera Panel at the American Popular Culture Association Conference in St. Louis, Mo., March 31 - April 3, 2010. I am thoroughly delighted at being able to share my love for this wonderful series.

In fact, I am three weeks younger than EON and ATWT. Both shows premiered on CBS on April 2, 1956. I started watching the show in January 1964.

I would like to present a video montage as part of my presentation, but my only problems are: 1) I am not technologically saavy and 2) I am now disabled. If anyone could put together a montage of the hsow for me on a DVD, I would be eternally grateful.

    • Unpopular opinion, but the Chelsea coming out scene reeked of Afterschool Special and I really didn't care that we didn't see her coming out to her grandparents.  We were spared the 'We're Duprees and we're better than everyone' speech. As a gay person, I kind of like watching straight people acting all messy and cringey (which is why I probably have a soft spot for Ashley/Derek... and sometimes wish Jacob would take his balls back from his warden Naomi) LOL If the show were willing to take risks, I would think the Dani arc is basically a 2020's version of Betty Broderick... but I doubt Dani would actually shot/kill Bill and Hayley.  Though I do have a feeling that if Hayley is pregnant that Dani will cause to miscarry the baby.
    • I don't think that's clever, though. Maybe the writers should forget about throwing shade and write dialogue and story for Ashley and Derek that isn't boring and doesn't paint them as boring.   I agree -- both of those still need a ton of work. I still say the fades to commercials look like someone walked past the camera and hit the OFF button.   Yep, this was regression in every way. Dani was all hopped up with Chelsea like she'd taken some party drug, and then it got worse when she literally broke into Bill and Hayley's house.   -- The fakeout scene was good, but I don't want them to go to that well too often. They're already in danger of doing that. -- I'm good with Brandon Claybon's acting style. It's different, but in a good way. -- It was an interesting turn to have Tyrell question Jessica's intentions. -- I didn't see anything special about the plated food on today's show. At Orphey Gene's, it looked like everyone had a plate of french fries.
    • Diana's BSOD in Gary and Abby's hot tub is yet another gif-worthy moment.
    • I'm sure once the next budget comes in, they'll develop another community lot.
    • I agree; she's always spoken highly of her time on World Turns and how they treated her as a professional at that point.
    • That’s why I mentioned another bar.
    • Who says they won't, though? I mean, Bill doesn't even know, yet, either.
    • Julianne Moore has always spoken positively of her time on As the World Turns. She also had the good fortune of being on that show during the Calhoun/Marland era when it was at its creative peak. Hard to believe that April 2 was 40 years since Julianne Moore first As the World Turns episode.
    • You forgot Uptown. They eat and meet up there too. And don't forget Kat & Tomas' date in the Richardson living room.
    • Today was the Dani I can’t stand. She had been doing so good for a few weeks here.
