I just finished watching Y&R's Aug 7 (US) episode written by Jay Gibson/Thom Racina. The outline for the show was great; the dialog was just awful...from Katherine's first tag line "Did you fall off the wagon?" to the endless hackneyed cliches that followed. Racina is VERY rusty after 20 yrs writing novels and away from soaps. He better improve quickly or he should retire back to Palm Springs.

Did anyone listen to his interview..did he say what brought him back to daytime?

Anthony Morina and his wife Sally. Anthony basically suggested it, asked him why doesn't he come back to daytime, but Thom only accepted to write one script a week.

Possibly now he might be writing more, but I doubt it.

He sure praised all the wrong people.

In that interview Ryan did with him there were 2 things I didn't like (and that I can recall right now):

1. I didn't like that he called the Dobsons crazy. That was really a total lack of manners, taste and culture.

2. The thing he said about Michelle Val Jean, basically denigrating her saying (not directly, but I just have a feeling) that she's only good as a SW, that she lives only for that. I kind of think he thought of himself very highly whereas Michelle is below him.

Only my thoughts, nothing else.

I have to say I'm loving Thom Racina's scripts, they sound like old school Y&R, I'm delighted by his work, especially this:

Victor: You know where they're taking her? They're taking her to the morgue, she never did harm to anyone, one of the kindest people I've ever known, she loved me more than anyone has ever loved me, no strings attached nothing, no restrictions, she just loved me and now she's gone. They're taking her to the basement to a cold and sterile morgue, they'll put a tag on her toe and then stick her in a drawer, I only wish they would stick you in that drawer.

I don't remember Thom Racina butchering Days. I loved the time while he was there (Patch & Kayla, Bo & Hope). Maybe it was timing, but when he left the show went downhill fast. This was also a time the show some of its best talent.

Same here. I have to say, that era of Days drew me to Daytime in the first place.

Thanks Sylph for the link. I don't like the way he put down the Dobsons either. I don't care if they were total nutcases, they were talented and intelligent HWs who gave GL new life in the early 80s and created an exciting and sweeping NBC soap. According to Patrick Mulcahey, they also gave their writers a lot of freedom in crafting SB's episodes and pushing the dialogue to high standards.

Putting down Michele Val Jean, who single-handedly planned and wrote Liz's rape on GH... wow. How can he be so sniffy over a writer who put together such a considered and moving story?

I like that he gave Generations props, though.

So far, his two episodes on Y&R have been well-executed, in my view. We'll see.

    • I don't believe she did. She did sleep with Simon, believing he was a Spaulding.
    • -- If I ever get sick, please don't send me to Garland Memorial. That hospital is a YIKES. -- Soooo much activity around the main nurses' desk. Do they move dead people on a gurney past that desk, too? -- 8 months for Bill to recover from a "small stroke"? Uh....I don't think so. Is anyone researching this stuff? The hospital stuff is not coming off as realistic. -- It's good that Derek and Ashley are being integrated into other stories, but it's a real stretch to say Leslie was "stalking" Ashley. It makes Derek seem dumber than we already think he is. -- Ashley spends a lot of time having small talk while she's at work. -- Chelsea is embarrassing. Period. -- Tomas is supposed to pick up the slack for Bill, but he has time to have worthless conversations with Leslie? OK then. -- Kat is destroying the case against Leslie, but that's clearly the way to keep Leslie on the canvas.
    • 6-3   I almost let my system just delete the episode just like with B&B. I am now questioning if I should have. lol.   I just can't believe that Cole sat there and started to get sick and then only Victoria off and ran off and everyone basically went back to what they were doing at Nikki's birthday party. Cole was too much of a vet character for that. And now story back off-screen.   I did chuckle at how much Victor pay Kyle dust. And now Kyle with this deal and a promise to leave town if he hurts Claire. smh. As if Victor isn't going to make that happen.   It was lovely to see Ashley. And actually (misdressed and all) Abby.    And I liked Claire's dress.
    • Oh. That. I pretend that never happened.

I did think of another possibility. Did India ever sleep with Alan? They kind of toyed with pairing them up, but I'm not sure they ever became lovers.
    • While I do love the chaotic energy that is Kat vs Lesile, it is a bit extra. Sheltered, virginal Kat who plays it safe from her man to her wardrobe understands that Leslie is dangerous, but she's out here showing up everywhere and anywhere that Lesile is to be found and actively going to places where she is alone? I mean Kat doesn't even act a little afraid or intimidated by Leslie. Meanwhile, big Ole Derek out here begging for his and Ashley's life to Jacob.  As for Dani, I didn't see it that way. Dani and Bill were together for 30 years and shared a family. I believe there was real love there at one point. Bill is still an ass and Dani is still crazy, but realizing she may lose him and her daughter's may lose their dad definitely struck a chord.
    • Funny I randomly saw Kami’s lengthy post about the 44th anniversary of the Walton’s finale last week pop up in my news feed on Facebook. A few inaccuracies to her post but overall it was pretty insightful and interesting to read.
    • Well, depending on rewrites...Jennifer Richards potentially slept with Brandon and Alan. It does feel like we're forgetting someone, but then again, maybe I'm confusing that with brothers, which would include a lot more.
    • Maybe it’s me, and the fact that RC isn’t at the helm, but since Cwikly and Ford have taken over I’ve noticed the show doing a lot of things differently directing wise, and since the storyline of John’s demise began, the show has been using different scores, and dare I say better ones than this time last year. It’s interesting and I wonder if the any of it is Noel Maxam’s influence before being promoted.
    • I think Nicole is about to figure out what's going on between Andre and Dani.
    • @Efulton thank you. I don't know how I missed it or didn't recall it.  I'll blame amnesia . Anyway @Errol Could the newer thread be merged to the existing? Thanks in advance.
