Carolyn Hinsey Fired!

And P. S. I am appalled that certain people from SON participated in there. Some admitted it, some are so easy to see through. Appalled.

I do hope you aren't referring to me, I couldn't live with myself to know that you're appalled that I sang like a bird about Carolyn Hinsey!

I don't know if I even have the energy to try to catch up with this thread, now talking about the Jossip thread primarily rather than anything about CH's firing & how it will or may affect daytime, etc. But, I have to ask one question, ...The real Alan Carter is posting there & he like almost everyone has pluses & minuses, but there's an imposter Alan Carter posting there, too. (Several imposters there now even of nom de plumers.) And, the real Alan Carter stated clearly that it was the imposter who told the tale of Lynn being fired. So, I just wanted to get that out there so it won't be part of the tale that is told by the campfires for many moons. If this has already been pointed out, I apologize. I just skimmed & didn't see it.

And for reasons that DonnaB will understand, the whole thing boggles my mind because I haven't actually encountered internet forgers since a peculiar case on Usenet. The whole Jossip thread has been rendered useless by these imposters...which is cool in a "sabotage" sense. What an effective way to shut the thread down!

Alan Carter needs a blog. Seriously. Not only because I think he has valuable things to contribute, but because I think he has some demons to expunge. And because I think he has fans, and it would make him feel good to connect with them.

Ohmigawd, don't remind me. Oh, wait, you already did. Anyway, that poster is beginning to show their former stripes. I hope they stop & think & back up again. It's so much nicer when they post more or less like the rest of the world.

You're probably right about Carter.

Hinsey Won't Be replaced at 'Weekly'; Leahey Assumes Control

Submitted by Jamey Giddens on August 18, 2008 - 4:44pm.

Editorial director of Soap Opera Digest and its sister publication Soap Opera Weekly, Lynn Leahey revealed to TV Guide Canada's Nelson Branco today that former Weekly editor Carolyn Hinsey won't be replaced.

"There will be no new editor at Soap Opera Weekly," says Leahey. "I will be assuming control of the magazine, while Stephanie Sloane continues as editor at Digest."

As Branco previously reported, budgetary issues were at the root of Hinsey's role being phased out.

"Everyone knows when a new owner steps in, the person with highest salary is the first to go," says Branco. "The same thing happend to Mimi Torchin when Primedia took over."

Soap Opera Weekly and Soap Opera Digest were both acquired by Source Interlink last May when the media corporation purchased Primedia's Enthusias Media (EM) Division.

Oh my!

How long before the SOD/SOW merger?

And when it happens, will they do the little digest form, the tabloid newsprint form, or some new hybrid?

SOW did their first issue without Hinsey's name listed ANYWHERE on the mag :D

So I wonder what SOD will replace "It's Only My Opinion" with?

I just received my latest copy of SOD. CH's column is there, as usual.

Hey, a poster at Jossip (yes, I went back after weeks to see what embers are still glowing) said this:

Folks, the remaining people at SOW seem to have decided to put a smiley face on the whole thing.

There's an "open letter" in this week's issue, signed by all of the staff, talking about "exciting changes".

I guess they still want to live indoors and eat, and thus, are doing as told to keep their jobs.

Does anyone have a copy of that SOW? Could they summarize what is said, within the bounds allowed by SON?

I was gifted with a SOW copy. In the 9/2 issue, the editors say, in part

Dear Readers, As many of you out there in soapland may have noticed, SOW has been undergoing some creative changes, both behind the scenes and in our pages.

They then go on to talk about devoted and passionate editors, writers, artists and loyal readers

We have a positive outlook for our future, and for the future of soap operas.....we can only do that with yoru support - and your suggestions.
The improvements are starting right away: We are introducing a new column, Love in the Afternoon, in which you can share uplifting stories of how beloved shows and actors have impacted your lives. E-mail [email protected] with your experiences.

They also ask "what do you miss?" and "what would you like to see more of?"

WEEKLY is starting fresh, and we would love for all of you to join us on this journey. Thanks for your support.

I interpret this as saying that the "lesson" taken from Hinsey's leadership was one of excessive negativity...and they are now trying to embrace a more positive viewpoint. The letter is signed by just about the entire staff. This would imply that...in contrast to the early phase of the Jossip story...the team is trying to come together. Or at least all hold on to their jobs :).

OK, I'm a little late on this, but just let me say that I'm happy this fat bitch was fired. Harsh? Yes. I can't stand her.
