Nancy Lee Grahn?? In all her years on GH I can't think of a single story she elevated above mediocrity. Deidre Hall, even with the worst and silliest plots JER ever turned out, was better at selling a story.

^^^Are you serious? NLG is a first rate actress and should have at least 2 Emmy's for her role on General Hospital. She should have never loss to SF that one year for Kristina's funeral. Imagine if she had good material to work with...

ETA: I'm not saying that NLG is the better actress. I've just been more impressed by her work.

Yes, I am serious. There is this conventional wisdom that she is this tremendous actress, but based on what? What story in her 15 years of GH did she ever sell the way Constance Towers would take the most absurd stories and just sell it? Where is the library of work that should have gotten her emmys? Emmys for what? She is ok but she seems to have no screen presence or charisma, and so is a total dud compared to the Susan Luccis of the world.

Deidre Hall is one of the most awful actresses (in terms of popularity) I've ever seen. Her stiffness, campy actions, weird and unnecessary orgasmic sounds are just vomit-inducing. She just totally sucks, and she better thank the heavens JER used her as the center for his outlandish stories, or else she would've totally faded into the background like she did after she returned to DAYS in 1991.

That's fine. And Kristina Wagner starred in one of GHs most powerful scenes ever and yet I still wouldn't say because of that one scene she is a great actress.

Also because I don't feel like two posts, I never saw Santa Barbera, but if I have to go to SB to find the wow factor then I think that says it all about her 15 years on GH.

I like her very much...but these days I feel she is too cerebral, not emotionally invested.

I get that this is the character.

But when I watch her off-screen stuff (she does a lot, say at her website), I see little distinction between actress and character. I realize that is common...but it makes me think that maybe NLG is a beautiful, smart, sexy, expressive lady who is phoning it in. She is playing NLG, and because NLG is so darn riveting, we like Alexis.

NLG reminds me a ton of Elizabeth Montgomery (one of my all time faves). Beautiful, with a certain hauteur....funny...but mostly not that emotionally invested. Liz had her moments, of course...

I don't ever (and I'm not a daily viewer, but I do try to keep my eye on NLG) really see her "bleed" on stage, you know.

He sure was. Remember the two people who kept Victor hostage on some hill, Chet and - what was her name - Ramona? Kay Alden was sole HW back then, I think. His story was right around the introduction of Ashley Bashioum as Mac.

I think the concept/idea was horrible, I remember being so annoyed by it when I first heard about it, but the actual execution was not nearly as bad as I had originally thought it was going to be. It provided for some decent fallout from the drama.

I think you quoted the wrong post. I said NLG has wowed me more than Flannery has on B&B (I'm not counting her DOOL work because I've never seen it).

Deidre Hall used to be a better actress. I've seen clips from the days when she was an actress, and she was pretty damn good.

IMO Alex Donnelly SAVED that storyline. She was sublime.

The show does look great though!
    • Well, she just said "ladies" on the show but she didn't specify they were fellow actresses. It could have been some of the women behind the scenes of the show. There was a lot in the interview that wasn't clear to me.
    • Now would’ve been a great time to get the next A plot going, versus Bill and Katie and Steffy and Liam rehashing the same BS about Luna we have been hearing for weeks.
    • I feel it could benefit from a focus on one of their three A stories or a solid B plot. But right before the turnover from Guza to Thomson, outside of all things Dani...there's nothing too A story-ish going on. Still entertaining for me, but it's noticeable that there is not a main story with other B/C stories going on. It's just...a bunch of stories going on.    I do hope the build to Winterfest and us actually seeing it THIS month will get things moving again.    HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
    • GET THAT HEFFA, NOSY NURSE!!!   I'm sorry to see Smitty and June coming to a middle ground. It seem like that tension would be between them for at least one more story arc. A writing change?   I'm sorry but I love the teen unit of Ty, Samantha, and Jessica (and Rocco, Danny, Charlotte over on GH which is what today is reminding me of). I'm a sucker for soap teens. lol.
    • I really hope Laura doesn’t get reelected. She doesn’t deserve it. Imagine her campaign staff, freaking out at the Metro Court as election results come in while she’s hanging out with Sonny.
    • Thanks for that. It was great to see her in an interview. She's very likable. Although it was somewhat confusing. What new soap is she talking about going on audition for in 1973. Was it The Young and the Restless? Is it just me or did they never even say the name of this soap opera? Days wasn't new in 1973 and there was no "Jack" with three daughters on The Young and the Restless. What soap are they talking about? The editing around that part was weird and choppy. I felt like there was a chunk missing or something. And I'm not sure why she was saying she got colorectal cancer from HPV and said it's because she never got the HPV vaccine but then said she's never had anal sex. I'm not a doctor but that didn't seem to make any medical sense. I don't know. Maybe I'm tired. It just seemed like some of this interview didn't make sense.
    • If it helps any, the last script cover from the Elman papers that I have is from episode #3,736 airdate November 15, 1977. Writers are the Hollands with Frank Salisbury.
    • B&B really does look incredible. The lighting and the polished sets have made a significant difference how visually appealing the show is now.
    • I found the problem with the Labine era was that the show lost some humour when the Labines came on and it could be dull. They also didn't seem to understand some of the characters. As others have said, it looks fantastic in comparison to the next regime but I just remember boredom being the primary response.
