I can't be the only one who thinks Gerald Gordon was heavily channeling John Cassavetes. I'm sure that was a major part of his appeal.

I was under the impression the Pollocks were the most renowned writers here? This is a few years prior, unless I miss my guess, but Rita Lakin's(?) work is very strong. The show seems full of pretty frank, blunt, often brusque, ambitious or selfish people. Not typical of the time (or even today). Even the tentpole leading man, Jim Pritchett, is much more full of piss and vinegar than, say, John Beradino on GH. He really goes in on his staff, he's great fun. I could've seen him on any number of other soaps (who knows, maybe he did a few).

He had small roles on other soaps before and after this one. I posted an article a few years back where he talked about his biggest role before Matt - the shoe salesman Lisa had an affair with on ATWT.

I also had a photo he took with Burt Reynolds when Burt hosted SNL in 1979. The Doctors taped nearby, and Burt wanted to see him, because his mother was a fan.

Mr. Pritchett appeared as Bruce Elliott on As the World Turns and as Jeff Nichols on The Secret Storm. On The Doctors, he appeared as a businessman when the episodes were self-contained stories. When the character of Matt was created, he was asked to play him. He was on the show for the entire run. After the cancellation of The Doctors, he was on an episode of Guiding Light.

I'll be honest: even if Liz weren't in the picture, I still wouldn't want Nick and Althea to marry. Elizabeth Hubbard and Gerald Gordon are fantastic together. Given their sharp personalities, however, I have a feeling that any marriage between those two would just be a hot mess. I mean, great for us who are watching, but really, really not so much for them.

But I love that no characters on here are being propped, for lack of a better word, or are being written into a corner in order to push some type of agenda on the folks at home. If this were all happening today, everyone, including Matt and Maggie, would be so in love with Liz and would shout from the proverbial mountaintop how she and Nick were soulmates, age differences and outside obligations be damned. Althea would be written as the selfish bitch who has the audacity not to want what is clearly best for Liz and the father of her baby (with the strong implication that maybe everyone would be better off if Althea were to miscarry the bastard or abort it) and who must be out of her mind not to swoon over The Great Nick Bellini's marriage "proposal"...and no one would even DARE call Nick out on his insensitivity toward everyone in general and Althea in particular. If anything, his behavior would be regarded as the paragon of manhood.

Speaking of Rita Lakin, looks like a lot of her personal career memorabilia is being sold on eBay, including some scripts from The Doctors. According to the description, most of her scripts have been donated to the University of Wyoming.

And I’d love to see that beautiful smile a lot more There’s just one problem… that should’ve been sent packing with Uncle Ron
    • Yet another reason some of the characters need servants.  Since some of the sets do not include front doors, servants could answer the off-screen door and escort guests into the living room(s).
    • I remember them showing a map of Michigan during one of Rachel's adventures, and you are probably correct here.  But the map may have been used in 1978, when Sven kidnapped Rachel and characters were searching for her. They had no idea Sven had hidden her right there on the Cory estate.  So that's just another possible sighting of the infamous map.
    • The one thing that drives me nuts about this show is that all these wealthy people never lock their doors and everyone just walks in without even knocking.  I live out in the boonies with no neighbors close by, but I always have my doors locked day or night!
    • All the best people are at the bottom of the list. Lauren, Michael, Chloe, Traci, Ashley, Mariah, Sharon, Amanda, Devon. I’d rather see more of these people than anyone in the top 10.. (with the exception of Jack and Diane) because I am still enjoying their scenes.
    • The live video tribute to Drake last night with current and former actors Thread with link to video: https://boards.soapoperanetwork.com/topic/68987-days-currentformer-actors-live-video-tribute-for-drake-hogestyn  They said that the episodes were filmed out of order over a span of time. As we already knew, re: the upcoming memorial service (not spoiling the airdate here)... the memorial service was taped *before* Drake passed away, and then the studio was on a preplanned hiatus, and the actors learned of his passing during the hiatus. New info from the video last night, is that some of what recently aired (such as June 3rd episode ) was taped *after* the hiatus, so after Drake passed away. Maybe I misunderstood what Martha Madison said, but it sounded that way. My god, I don't know how the actors filmed it, especially Diedre.
    • I did not expect Peter Reckell to be the one to break my heart today. Incredible scenes with Bo and his family.
    • Barbara, to me, is a mixture of Florence Ballard and Betty McGlown/Barbara Martin (both McGlown and Martin were part of the Primettes before they became a trio and were renamed the Supremes).
    • Maeve Kincaid said in interviews that she misses slapping Jordan Clarke's face..something along the lines "He knew how to take a slap!"   Or voodoo dolls..LOL!
    • Staci Greason was in Paris during this live tribute, which would have been in the middle of the night where she was. So Fairman arranged to pretape Greason earlier in the same day, and then spliced her part into the end of the video after the live feed, and it's all on the same youtube.
