I would agree there.

(Or you have some more modern characters who change and no longer can really stay on the show. I don't mean poor Saul--I always hope he'll pop up again, but like that woman who was into the Greenwich Village scene who Don was dating who eventually just had to leave him, etc)

Another soap scene was on this week--Megan is now playing twin sisters (one blond one brunette.) Which made me think--when did soaps first do that? I thought it was on AMC in the 70s when one sister died--I know of course in the late 60s Vicki played multiple personalities, but...

TNR explains why Mad Men became a critical darling and Weiner became a god.

I agree with a lot of it, although it unravels by the end (the South Park guys haven't been critically acclaimed or that much of a media focus in a very long time, and Lena Dunham is one of the most pretentious twits around).

I have seen every episode of Mad Men and yet I really don't like it. But last night was it for me I think. I can't handle another season of Don's unrelenting depression (over what?! Growing up in a whorehouse and then becoming ridiculously successful and still unhappy? He probably had MDD but frankly, I do not care and it's not enjoyable or entertaining to watch). He is the immovable, unchanging noose around the narrative of this show.

I'm sick of his nonsense conversation with every pretty woman he meets because they all end in her offering her body to him no matter how much he looks like a boiled potato. It was nice to see Neve Campbell though, she's gorgeous.

This show only gives the appearance of being a top drama because the camera is still and the dialogue is sparse. That doesn't excuse the stilted acting or lack of character progression. At times I feel like I'm watching a child play with Barbies, it's all so pretty and inconsequential.

Was Neve the real estate agent?

And I don't know what it is but I find Don Draper/Jon Hamm drop dead sexy....I swear the guy I've been pining for for months on ends now looks like a younger version of Jon Hamm but everyones says my vision is mistaken so whatever.

But yeah I couldn't even stick to the end of last nights episode. I just got this feeling of dread and depression every time I saw Don onscreen. This guy just refuses to be happy. And at the end it looked like he had developed a drinking problem which is of course exactly what I'd expect from this character.

As Sally said last season "that poor girl".

Hell has frozen over because I actually liked Joan in the premiere for the first time ever. Maybe Weiner finally got a clue that a 40-year-old bitch that goes through life on her back isn't compelling to watch and is finally giving her a brain?

I still continue to hope that Megan gets caught up in the canyon catastrophe that is a few weeks away because she continues to be useless.

    • Hopefully they can expand some of the sets again. I watched some 04/05 episodes and forgot how much more grand the production used to feel. I wonder if YR will be staying put or going there or somewhere else as well.
    • DAYS posted the recipe! https://www.instagram.com/p/DKiMVZvuZje/ dayspeacock June 5, 2025 Tomorrow is National Donut Day! Here’s Alice Horton’s famous recipe! #NationalDonutDay #Donuts #Recipe #DOOL #Days #Daysofourlives #TBT Ingredients: 2 eggs 1 cup of sugar 1 cup of milk 5 tablespoons melted shortening 1-teaspoon vanilla extract 4 cups all-purpose flour, sifted before measuring 4 teaspoons baking powder ½ teaspoon salt 1 stick butter, melted Cinnamon Sugar In a large bowl, beat the eggs until foamy. Gradually add sugar, beating constantly. Stir in milk, shortening and vanilla. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Add to the wet ingredients, mixing well. Cover and chill the dough for 30 minutes to one hour for easier handling. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees. Spray baking sheet with vegetable cooking spray. Roll out or pat the dough on a lightly floured board to a half inch thickness. Cut with a doughnut cutter. Place the doughnuts and holes on the baking sheet, one inch apart. Bake for 10 – 15 minutes or until golden brown. Brush each doughnut and doughnut holes with melted butter and roll in Cinnamon Sugar to coat all sides. Makes about 36 doughnuts. Cinnamon Sugar: 1 cup of sugar 1 teaspoon of cinnamon In a small bowl, combine the sugar and cinnamon, blending well.
    • "Jordan and Robert have the best brother chemistry. " They certainly did!  And that chemistry worked no matter who served as the protagonist in a given scene or story.  A shame that a full-blown story was never developed for those two.  Wouldn't have needed to be adversarial, either.  Maybe a serious, unexpected, long-term outside threat, business or personal, to one of the brothers with the other coming to his aid.

I was able to find most of them. I am not sure if you did 1974-1977 but I did not find it in the 70s thread. This is an amazing resource for EVERY soap.  1973 https://boards.soapoperanetwork.com/topic/41800-ratings-from-the-70s/page/78/#comments 1973 more research https://boards.soapoperanetwork.com/topic/41800-ratings-from-the-70s/page/80/#comments 1973 Update https://boards.soapoperanetwork.com/topic/41800-ratings-from-the-70s/page/82/#comments 1978 https://boards.soapoperanetwork.com/topic/50145-ratings-from-the-80s/page/135/#comments 1979-1988 https://boards.soapoperanetwork.com/topic/50145-ratings-from-the-80s/page/115/#comments 1989  https://boards.soapoperanetwork.com/topic/50145-ratings-from-the-80s/page/122/#comment-1876530 1990-1999  https://boards.soapoperanetwork.com/topic/58300-ratings-from-the-90s/page/11/#comments 2000-2004  https://boards.soapoperanetwork.com/topic/58300-ratings-from-the-90s/page/58/#comments
    • Mrs. H used the donuts to distract from the expensive jewels that she hid in the walls of her kitchen.  Now, it all makes sense...

I thought a smart cookie like Caroline Brady would've had the chance to hide a bauble of her own from her dalliance with Victor.
