I applaud your bravery in stating you liked Ejami on this board :P

No seriouisly, I see your points and agree with most of what your saying. Sadly, Days is lame. Just lame.

Then you have OLTL, which until last week I watched sporadically if ever. This show is so hyped around here lately, and when I tuned in, I found myself drawn into the storylines, even though I honestly don't know the shows history that well. Dorian reminds me of Vivian Alamain a little, and the whole Buchanan company drama actually intrigued me. It's not as good as it was hyped IMHO, but maybe thats because I don't know the history. In any case it's better than any other show on at 1pm in my market right now. (my company just moved us back to AL  )

I watched my old fall back ATWT, waiting for a reason to leave Days during Ejami sex, and honestly, the show is better than Days, but not good enough to make me stop watching the show. Before moving to Bama, I watched ATWT everyday. I love the show, and it's history. Long Live Douglas Marland! All the shows I love (Days, ATWT, and GL) stand on the brink.

Even though I don't know the history of OLTL, the references to the past, along with the use of established vets, lets me know I'm watching a show that honors it's past, without seeming desperate to do so. I may not watch longterm, but I'll flip the channel between Days and OLTL for a while (it's hard to choose between a show I've watched forever, and show that happens to be better).

I feel disloyal and guilty when I stop watching Days, but I'm getting bored, and the olympics are coming.

well Ryan, maybe it's more about bringing lucas back in the chosen form...and having Sami back to an blubbering idiot. Meaning two blubbering, shouting, red-faced idiots almost every single day - so much so that the show can NOT be watched without hearing one or both of them. Trust me when you try you're missing so much of the show that it seriously isn't worth even trying!

Add to that what Toups said about nothing to look forward to, etc. and I can't see why the ratings wouldn't be low.

JMHO of course.

Oh man. I just read the spoiler Soapsuds and Worldturner referenced and I'm gonna puke now.

LOL! For one thing, I could care less about seeing the Ejami hate on this board. I understand why people feel so strongly, but I just don't care anymore. I'm at a point in my life where soaps are .... just soaps. If they ended, I would feel sad but I've lost so much interest I can't even participate in the fanwars. LOL. My interests lie in anime, manga, etc. Maybe my soapwatching phase is done. Who knows, but now I read the posts and move on....Oooh....maybe it's indifference? Does any of this make sense?

Well, OLTL used to grab my attention when I was actually in the doctor's office. I just never really got into it at home. So, yeah...rarely I watched it. Now, I'm actually drawn to the show. Part of it is the positive feedback from the posters here and part of it comes from the show itself. I can't pinpoint it, but I like what I'm watching. I watch a tiny bit of AMC and it's alright. I thought I'd never say this, but I am starting to warm up to ABC shows now. I'm not crazy about them, but hey, it's entertainment.

Judging by the lack of feedback in the discussion threads, I KNOW I'm not missing anything. I wanted to go back to ATWT so many times, but it felt like a chore just as Days does now. ATWT is not the same anymore. It's empty. Days was good last year and I loved it during the "Saved by the Bell" years, but my tastes have changed. I haven't missed them one bit. I'm not going to put myself through unnecessary pain/stress. LOL. It's too bad because they really were excellent shows.

And that is what I think the problem with Days is. There is a moment here and there, but nothing else in the stories that really make me care. These events happen and there is not fallout from it. The last story I really sat and watched was Bo's illiness. Again had moments in it, but I never felt like there was any fallout to it. All it did was allow away for Chan to get together.

Is THAT why we're seeing I-tunes topping goth/dance stars on Y&R this week? Josh Griffith is to blame?

Total OT: In this week's SOW, the guy who used to play Ryan/Kevin on GH/PC says he now goes "drinking in Mexico" with LML. Maybe alcohol was her problem :-).

    • I assume they did at some point during the finale...
    • Kelly was a horribly-written character overall. Just think, two Emmy-winning actresses (including Cynthia Watros, Nina, GH, and Annie, GL) couldn't make it work. Pamela is campy, but so are Dani, Vanessa, Leslie, and Joey. And, I don't want to be too judgy because my love for camp changes depending on the show. OLTL, DAYS, and some eras of GH had me rolling with the camp. However, Passions was overkill and I hated it. And, here, I can take it or leave it. It's ok in small doses (note to RC). I see this show as more of a serious drama.
    • I think one of the reasons that pilot didn't get picked up was because Vicki L was associated more with being Thelma Harper and playing older then she was playing her own age.  It was a blessing it didn't get picked up, or we would have been deprived of the syndicated era of Mama's Family.   Also, worth noting a Pre Night Court Marsha Warfield and pre Perfect Strangers Rebecca Arthur in the cast.  All talented women, but stuck with a bad script. And the other pilot had a pre Fran Fine.. Fran Drescher as the best friend.  I think that pilot might have been picked up if Karen Valentine and Fran Drescher switched roles.
    • So, on rewatch....did Rick and Mindy never have sex?
    • Cady had a fairly posh accent or manner as Rosanna - the character was a 180 from Dixie when she went to ATWT, and it was a huge success initially. As someone mostly only familiar with the nagging, miserable or clueless Dixie of the mid-late '90s and early 2000s it was what convinced me Cady could act. I thought she was incredible in her first run. Later, in future stints, her hair and story and performances were all over the place but a lot of that was down to the show for me. She brought some of Rosanna back with her to Dixie in her ill-fated return and a lot of people didn't like it, which I understood but I did think the character needed some change. I think she's had a little bit of the same persona and arch performance in every role she's played since, including Jennifer Horton at DAYS or Kelly at Y&R, who later became a maniac and was easily the worst work I've ever seen Cady do. It has kind of infected her overall mannerisms, I'll allow that, but I do think she brought Dixie back together as herself while still evolving the character when she returned to AMC again in 2012-13. Nonetheless, for me the upshot is that this is a character where Cady's kookier recent performance style suits the role. But I can understand it grating for people.
    • Yeah, Loretta Swit's passing stings. My late dad LOVED the show (he died last November) and watched it religiously. In first run and repeats.  And I was literally born the day after the show's premiere, so I grew up with it! I know many loved later, softer Margaret, but I loved Early Hot Lips. In real life, I'm all for less misogyny, but to me, the early years of M*A*S*H were just funnier. May Loretta Swit rest in peace. Thanks for all the memories connected to my dad!

    • I agree that she isn't Dixie or Rosanna and shouldn't be acting like either. I just found it strange that she had a naive Southern character and a wealthy urbane character in the past and didn't experiment with accents before (unless I missed it, correct me if I'm wrong). She used to do improv characters on YouTube. She's probably doing something similar here.

    • And here I thought I'd never think about Lauren Tewes again after her brief appearance in Twin Peaks Season 3.
    • I may be the single person who does not mind Transatlantic Campy Pamela. I think it perfectly suits this sort of Absolutely Fabulous-esque supporting character she's playing much more than it did when Cady tried weird and often broad stuff at AMC* or Y&R, or later stints at ATWT. She's not Dixie and she's not trying to be. I will freely admit some of the other chances she took at other shows often came off stiff, hammy or downright mortifying (Kelly Andrews, come on down). (* - and I say that as one of the few who was somewhat into Cady trying to make Dixie more cosmopolitan in the Rosanna Cabot mold in mid-2000s AMC, just to liven the character up again)
