Y&R: Sabrina's mom comes to Genoa City

HUGHES NEWS

ABC suds great Finola Hughes, aka Anna Devane on General Hospital, has been temporarily poached by CBS' The Young and the Restless. Starting June 19, the beauty-licious Brit will play Zara, the flirty, opportunistic mother of Sabrina (Raya Meddine). The character will arrive in Genoa City - uninvited, natch - just in time for her daughter's wedding to mega-mogul Victor Newman (Eric Braeden). "Expect Fireworks," Hughes says. "Zara is quite the troublemaker and has a very complicated relationship with Sabrina. She deserted her daughter for years, leaving her in boarding schools while she flitted off to live her own life. Now she's back and thrilled that Sabrina is marrying a billionaire." The hyperactive Hughes, who also hosts Style's How Do I Look?, says her run on Y&R is strictly limited - she's due back on GH set in June.

ABC had no right to pressure Finola into backing out of the Y&R role. Finola is NOT under contract with ABC (long-term or short-term). She is recurring and has the right to take outside projects.

If Guza and Co. wrote Anna the way she is SUPPOSED to be written, maybe Finola wouldn't consider taking other roles. ABC looks very petty and childish in this situation. <_<

ABC Daytime talking about living up to comittments? That's a JOKE right?

It's too bad Y&R didn't offer FH a contract!

She would have chose them for sure!

ABC daytime has no problem strewaling actors away from other soaps.

Wow, that's low and she wasn't even contractually obliged to ABC. Tons of soap actors have done multiple soap roles when they weren't under contract to one soap. I guess it's probably because Finola is such a big name in the industry, but this is just sad on ABC's part.

Plus, what are we going to see? Anna act more like a 3 year old [!@#$%^&*] on GH? I can't stand Guza's writing for Anna, he so doesn't understand the character.

Amen!

TPTB are gonna just use her for 2 or 3 sounding board scenes for Robin before they send her away again.

I'm certain Finola's job on the Style Network was dangled in front of her in terms of defecting to Y&R. Very petty by ABC Daytime...but typical. So glad I gave up on ABC last year.

LOL Frons probably got PISSED That she took a short term role on Y&R, if it had been Days I doubt he'd had a problem with it

People should be glad she wasn't cast as David's mother

Bite your tongue LOL

While I see no problem with Finola doing the Y&R gig too, it's a business move. CBS would've done the same thing.

I don't think Finola's Style job was threatened. IIRC, Style Network is owned fully by Comcast, and is not a DIsney property.

Actually, Style Network is owned under the E! Networks umbrella which Disney owns a substantial minority stake in.

CBS wouldn't have done the same thing. Days approached B&B about using Joseph Mascolo and they agreed to lend him to Days, and at the same time Days lent B&B Margo (Days clearly had the advantage).

Right, but there was a fair trade off -- both parties were reciprocated (although IIRC, didn't Joe Mascolo end up not appearing on DOOL after all? I know Lauren Koslow appeared on B&B).

Disney sold their stake of E! about two years ago.

I think ABC did nothing wrong this time. I mean, FH always returns to GH in the summer for a very limited stint. And she obviously has more time this year, so she should do GH during that time. GH took her every chance they got since 2006, so she should do GH and no other soap. If it would be prime time or a movie that would be a different story...

Then ABC needs to offer Finola a short-term contract that states she can't do outside projects.

I've never liked her and am glad she's not going to be on Y&R. However, for GH to be in a position to make such demands, they should at least offer her a contract.

As for Sabrina's mother, Y&R should really offer Lynn Herring the sun the moon and the stars and then throw in a contract of front burner story lines on top of it!!
