You know, I love how people excuse Luke/Laura rape turned romance due to it being in "a different era." WTF does that have anything to do with it? Rape is rape, no matter the decade, music hits or fashion fads.

Its pretty hypocritical to say that one is okay, but the other is not.

It sucks, but I'm not surprised at all. I am surprised, though, that it's taken this long for them to become romantically involved. I've been waiting for it since last summer.

Luke also didn't mentally torture Laurai for months and months afterwards. And he was totally out of his mind. Not that is an excuse but Luke was not in his right mind. He told Laura to get out of the Disco because he knew that he would do something that they would both come to regret. But Laura couldn't leave Luke to drown in his dispair and stayed to help Luke.

Big freakin word to that post. Rape is rape.

EXACTLY! I know you don't watch GH Roman so this isn't directed at you.

Sami seducing EJ, would be akin to Emily trying to seduce Connor (Nikolas' look alike) after he raped her because because oh I dunno...Courtney was interested in him. Or better yet, Bianca going after Michael Cambias on AMC because another woman was interested in him. Oh, but I forgot, what happened to Emily WAS rape because it was extremely violent, and Sami's wasn't because it was a "exchange of favors."

Let me guess....Sami really wanted it too right? I mean she had flirted with EJ, deep down she really wanted him to sleep with him in order to save the man she loved. Did she freakin look like she enjoyed it? Sami damn sure wasn't smoking a cigarette and praising EJ for "how great he was." She was disgusted.

And in his selfishness he raped Laura. Immediately he regretted what he did and she eventually forgave him (she too, didn't address her rape, and when confronted by Lucky couldn't even admit what happened to her).

I don't think anyone is trying to cover up the fact that Luke raped Laura. It was Gloria Monty who went out of her way to try to make the audience think otherwise, when Luke and Laura became insanely popular. Of course back in the 70's, the network censors wouldn't allow Barbara Eden to reveal her belly button, and that was primetime! I really do think, even if GH wanted to confront the rape topic back then, ABC wouldn't allow them out of fear it might damage the reputation of the biggest supercouple in soap opera history.

However, GH did confront the rape topic, successfully I might add, in the late 90's. The didn't have to, but they did. It was Michele Val Jean's dream story to tell, and she got to do it. Not only is she one of the best writers in daytime, she's an extremely intelligent woman who knew what she was writing. Now that television has progresses significantly and rape has become somewhat of an overdone issue on soaps (sadly!), DAYS has its chance to make amends for what it did. But are they taking that chance? Of course not. I don't think anyone on the DAYS writing staff is as bold as Michelle Val Jean was for pushing for that story on GH, not to mention, none of the DAYS writers are as talented as she is.

Ryan I also remember reading I think from Tony Geary that the Audience DEMANDED Luke be redeemed and the show followed suit. They also didn't have Laura propping him 24/7

Oh and unlike EJ he showed actual REMORSE for what he did to Laura

LOL you're gonna get it now ;) Seriously it amazes me that there are some who think it's not rape, when Ali, James, Hogan and others even said it was..........

But then again to each their own

And that's the thing - can you imagine the scenes of distraught EJ breaking down into tears and following to his knees and crying out "I thought it was a deal... that's all I thought it was..." and begging forgiveness?! Or Sami feeling disgusted and repulsed by her own inner feelings towards EJ, and grappling with them in scenes with Marlena, as both mother and psychiatrist? There's so much to mine here. Such obvious drama. James Scott is a talented guy, and can easily play the different levels of this stuff, much like Geary did years ago. It's like the Max/Steph relationship - TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE INHERENT DRAMA IN THE STORY and stop PRETENDING LIKE IT DOESN'T EXIST.

Do you know what I wanted?? In the deep south we call it a "Come to Jesus" moment (pardon to phrase, not trying to push religon.) :D

I wanted the full aspect of what EJ had done to sink into him slowly, until one day, he totally realizes the painful and shameful thing he has done. I don't know, it could be when he's holding Ali, and realizes just how much betrayal and pain he must have brought on Sami. Then I wanted a breakdown and a long period when he didn't feel like he deserved Sami, or any woman's love.

One day, if this show makes it that long, it will be dredged up for storyline purposes. It will be when Dena has written her last horrible line, and Sami and EJ are nice and cozy together.

I mean who wants such a heavy and relevant storyline right now when we could focus on the massive sexual tension and lust bursting from this unstoppable couple (SARCASIM!!):rolleyes::rolleyes:

On top of the fact that Jack & Kayla were never put back together after he raped her. The biggest reason why he was redeemed was because the writing staff and MA had Jack go through a two-three year journey, fighting against who he was and what he was raised to be. he went through hell to find the good man that he is, and Jennifer was always his light at the end of his tunnel. And........before he left the show, even then, when Jack & Kayla were in scenes together, you still felt the tension between the two after all these years.

THAT'S drama!

Not this BS.

In the 70's NO ONE did socially relevant better than Days. This show was groundbreaking. I watched in those "Glory Days". There are so many fans that look at 80's Days and think it was quality. I have to admit, the show was better than it is now in the 80's, much better might I add. In the 80's Days told sweeping stories and romantic epics that kept me glued.

However, Days had it's most viewers, and most critical acclaim, in the 1970's. Bill, Laura, Julie, Doug, Addy, David, and Valerie....this show was daytimes finest. A true voice of relevance in a time of social change.
