OLTL: Discussion For the Week May 5-9

My weekly drive-by...

Lots of humour and I love it.

Rex was a riot today; David as well; but there's also so much built into Adrianna now, and Gigi, and even Natalie & Jared. Plus I laughed my ass of at poor Marko on that hook. Cole or John on the hook would have had me peeing my pants. And there are many other reasons to chuckle and I don't only mean that bare bum pic of JPL. Normal everyday ironies are all over the place.

Lots of character motivation.

It is taking me a long time to warm up to Gigi but her scenes with Viki and Marcie are damn close to winning me over. Loving that uberbitch Evelyn Evil Adrianna. Love how Dorian's created yet another monster that is way out of her control... and has none of her finesse. I can't believe I'm saying this but I will miss Adrianna when she is gone.

And LANGSTON! WOW! Dorian and Langston together = brilliant! Blair and Langston together = brilliant! Todd and Langston together = brilliant!

Robin Strasser really hit it out of the park this week.

And then there is Brody Lovett's chest :P

Aside from Brandon Buddy and the continued effort to beatify John McBain, I have no complaints. Please no Blair and John. KDP has more than earned her way out of that no win situation.

Any complaints I've had about the teens have been capably handled by Brittany Underwood, David Tam, and as of today, Kristen Alderson. KA's scenes today were top notch. Brandon Buddy barely said a word today - GOOD.

And Melissa Archer - damn I hated her for so long, now she's a breath of fresh air.

I see great things for this show. *fingers crossed*

Can't wait for tomorrow and next week.

I really love Viki/Gigi & Marcie/Gigi's friendship. It comes off so natural(real) and is really fun to watch. FF is doing a great job in this role.

It was great seeing David Vickers again, what the heck happened to his pants? lol I loved his comment about shutting up about the pie talk because that is what all the viewers were saying for a long time. *Writers reading the boards* :P

Finally Dorian told Adriana off but also loved how Adriana threw her rivalry with Viki in her face.

Poor Rex was so druuuuuuunk, went there looking for Gigi, and ending up stripping. I LMAO when he called out "What's my name!?" Then all the women ran to see Snoop Dogg

1) I LOVE JPL! He is a breathe of fresh air from your regular "soap leads" as of late. They've done a great job transitioning him from supporting to a semi-lead character. I'm writing a column on him this weekend. IMO, this is how it should be done. And umm......I'm totally making a banner of Rex & the pole

2) Farah Fath is so beautiful. I've always thought she was attractive, but it wasn't until NOW that I find her beautiful. I love the dark color of her hair, it brings out her eyes. She's turning into a very good actress, and much of that I think is because of the good writing and she's putting great effort forward.

3) Jarlie is love. It's true. I went from loving Natalie, to hating her, to wishing dead, to now loving her (THANK YOU RON CARLIVATI). Natalie and John was the WORST thing to happen to that show. It totally ruined her character and turned her into a weeping mess. Jared has been her "lifeline" so to speak (as far as getting her away from John) and I love it. I really enjoy them as a couple.

4) Todd......in the hands of a lesser actor, he would be a one note cartoon character (not everyone can play the multi-layers given to Todd in the writing).

ITA w/ #1. The whole time, I was like, "LICK THE POLE!! LICK THE POLE!" LOL

ITA w/ #3 too. I was always irritated by Melissa Archer's delivery. And even though she played conflicted during the Natalie/John storyline, she's sooo much better at it now. It's kinda crazy how well the writers are writing for this couple because, in the whole scheme of things, Jared is VERY slimy for what he did and so is Natalie for not saying anything.

AND #4... <sigh> The day Roger Howarth left and the writers came up with the lame storyline that Todd had plastic surgery was one of the best days in OLTL history. Trevor is AMAZING. I cannot wait until he finds out Starr is pregnant!!!!!!

Thank you, SON, for clueing me in on OLTL. I started taping last Friday and I haven't regretted my decision once.

P.s.: Co-sign on the JPL striptease. That was Office-worthy comedy right there. And Trevor St. John is playing so many emotions with a flick of his eye or hiss in his voice... amazing.

By the way, I really like the Snoop OLTL song. It's the opening shots that look cheap-ass and badly produced. They need to sharpen those up and speed up/slow down their pace in time to the song's rhthym.

Gawd it's a pleasure to watch OLTL these days.

I UBER loved OLTL yesterday. The opening was nice, and yesterday's episode had SO MUCH in it, I couldn't believe they had fit all that in a hour.

From the previews Snoop knows Bo? LMAO!!!

Oh, and P.S.: Guiding Light. Check out OLTL's exterior shots over the past five shows. THAT is how you incorporate exterior shooting into your show and make it look like Primetime.

I'm really starting to like Starr/Cole! Teens in love on the run + location shoot - what is this the 80's? LOL We rarely see stuff like this anymore.

David Vickers a TV star? That photoshoot! LMAO!!

    • Thanks. I'm glad they didn't give her a love interest at that time as it would have felt false after Ryder's horrible death.  I can definitely see how Patti would have replaced Liza. Still not sure why they decided to kill off Suzi.

    • @Paul Raven thank you. I knew you would have the skinny on sets. So probably more to come.

As for recast Ted, I saw him briefly because it's been a busy day, but what little I saw of him...I didn't dislike him as much as I thought I would. Keith felt like Maurice's Ted in a lot of mannerisms and way he had with some things/words. Definitely a different presence from Maurice's Ted, but I still feel like Keith WAS Ted. If that makes sense. Maruice's Ted definitely had a different charisma to him. From the brief scene I saw.   Will probably watch later when I get more time. Sounds like it was a great episode from the parts I've glanced on here earlier.  Speak on it.
    • WOW! So that episode was a repeat, it shows how strong Murder, She Wrote was!!
    • Awesome Yep, you can hook up a VHS player to a smart TV. Alternatively, Amazon sells some VHS to Digital converters that you can use to directly connect the VCR's AV cables  to a USB on a laptop or PC. They cost about 20 bucks. Any questions or need help, DM me!
    • -- "The role of Ted Richardson is now being played by...." I love that throwback to soaps from yesteryear. I know we don't want BTG to be our grandmother's soap, but sometimes Grandma's soaps had it right. -- I was FULLY prepared to dislike Keith D. Robinson as Ted, and I even went through things in my mind that I could say because I was fine with Maurice Johnson and felt bad for him.     However, Robinson was awfully good, especially for Day 1. He's a different Ted, but he's a good actor -- natural and real. People saying Gates "should have gone older" are head-scratchers since Robinson is older than Johnson. -- I expected Bill to be tougher than he was with Dana, THE worst mother of the year on soaps. -- Kat went toe-to-toe in those scenes with Dana. We're all in love with Ambyr/Eva, but Colby/Kat is also killing it. -- Derek and Ashley? I'm turning on Ashley, who can't even pretend to like Derek, let alone love him. Her annoyance with him is overboard, and I'm also annoyed with the show portraying Derek as a Neanderthal -- to the point of putting "Neanderthal" in his dialogue. Every single thing he does annoys Ashley, which makes me wonder what she ever saw in him. I want him away from her. -- Seeing Derek and Ashley in that bed was hilarious. It looks like a single, not something for two grown adults. -- Ashley and Andre are still a no for me -- a big no. I see no reason why he'd be infatuated with her. None. At least Andre got a smile from her, which she didn't have for Derek, even when he wanted them to get a bigger place. Derek, please dodge the bullet.
    •   I LOVED Hennig’s Stephanie. AK is Stephanie in name only. Stephanie was never boring to me.
    • July 2012, Abe organized a gala that was an autism fundraiser in Lexie's honor.  This was the huge event everyone was attending (except Gabi and Melanie in the tunnels).. -- when the gas explosion occurred and the building collapsed.  The "Daysaster" cliffhanger before the Olympics break.
    • I think maybe Andre is subconsciously looking for a caretaker/nurturer in his life to replace his parents. That would explain his attraction to both Ashley (nurse) and Dani (older woman/his aunt's sister). I don't see any chemistry between Ashley and Andre though. In fact Andre and Derek had more chemistry in the pasta night episode than either of them have ever had with Ashley.
    • My only recollection of Ms Felder in Tom Lissanti's book is that she was not well liked backstage, and nobody was aware of rumors that she was fired because of her looks, including the network executive interviewed for the book.
