Yes,it's funny that sometimes when a performer leaves fans are totally behind it even though it might upset story plans for the show.

But when someone is dismissed fans are up in arms about how it will ruin the show.

Robin had a contract that she wanted to break with no consequence. The PTB are always blamed in these cases.

Yes, it would be allowed today. Robin Wright had a contract and was obligated to do the show. They gave her a choice to void the remainder of that contract and sign a new one in return for that time off, but she wasn’t forced to. She could have turned down the offer and the other part, and left in 1987.

Honestly, many production companies even today wouldn’t have given her that choice; they would have held her to the original contract and forced her to turn down the other part. You can’t run a soap with your actors constantly demanding time off to take other parts. That’s why soaps vets with more clout negotiate “outs” in their contracts that let them do outside projects with a certain amount of notice. Robin was a newbie and didn’t have that type of clause in her original contract.

Anyone else think it was odd how the Heather/Scott/Celeste storyline petered out with no real closure? I mean, I think it was pretty clear it was over between Scott and Celeste, but it still felt unresolved. As for Scott and Heather, it was more up in the air. In their last scene together Scott wanted to get back with Heather but she wasn't exactly ready to welcome him back with open arms. So it didn't look like they'd be getting back together any time soon. But last we knew, they both still lived in Santa Barbara, so who knows?

Re: Robin Wright/Princess Bride/Santa Barbara contract. The Princess Bride was filmed August-December 1986, so 5 months. Assuming NBC initial soap contracts were three years, Robin Wright initial Santa Barbara contract would have ended July 1987 but her last episode was broadcast June 1988. So it seems NBC gave her 5 months off to film The Princess Bride, but added 11 months to her initial contract.

Don't forget, though: Wright [briefly left the role prior to The Princess Bride to film Hollywood Vice Squad in 1985. Per her words, it was a two-year deal that turned into four-years. And then in 1988, she opted to leave, and in 2023 called it (now) her "training," despite hating it then and "going into the Army of television".

Oh what a nice video!!

I think Jane Rogers is the most different from what I remember her. I mean, obviously it's been almost 40 years, but with a lot of them they still look so much the same (just older), but with her I would have never recognized her.

Vincent I. looks amazing, wow.

I remember loving Heather and Scott and I hated Celeste so much. I remember when I started watching Y&R in late 90s, and Hope appeared at some point, I was shocked that it was Celeste from SB and now she was playing such a nice person.

Took me a while to like her hahaha

And seeing Sherilyn Wolter... omg, I LOOVED Elena Nicholas / Eleonor Norris. She was so amazing and soapy villianess goddess. I still remember when she was in that mirror labyrinth and C.C. was there too and then he finds her on the ground, shot and her last words are "Cruz killed me, Daddy"... with two shocks at once... Cruz allegedly shooting her and her being C.C.'s daughter! So cool!

Apologizes if this has already been posted - Oscar Winner Gwyneth Paltrow all-time favorite show was Santa Barbara - she never missed an episode. Still years later she is such a fan of the show - she invited Robin Wright on her podcast to talk all things Santa Barbara

Robin Wright is the favorite Kelly for most santa barbara fans, but at the same time some Santa Barbara fans are so hard on Robin Wright.

She didn’t like the genre, she didn’t like the hard schedule the same as Ava Lazar, Linda Gibboney and many more, and she didn’t like her acting on the soap which is comprehensible from the point of view of the actor who sometimes is embarrassed of their own work and they only want to improve. Many times they didn’t like their jobs as many of us.

Also, Robin Wright has been hard on some of her acting in other movies saying she did a bad job, but soap opera fans only focus on her words about Santa Barbara. Until 2009 or so she said she was not a good actress in many interviews and that she was not the right choice for many of her parts.

Also I think it’s better that Robin Wright didn’t attend the reunion because in all her events she has an assistant and also security people, so it would be odd to do that in a small and casual event as the reunion.

People don’t understand that she’s not the only one who make decisions about her career or the events she goes or not. There’s a lot of management behind who control what she does and she does not.

Anyway, she has been in London and Spain from the last 7 months directing and acting in a Prime Video miniseries so there was not chance to her to attend the event even if she wished it.

    • Yes, they did.  I still have them.  I think there were three.  AMC and GH as well.
    • Ah okay, thats what I thought. I was hoping I missed the announcement somewhere. Thanks for the clarification.
    • A new day in Salem… and a new day for Days.  I like the way everybody found out and absorbed the news about John’s death, and how they all eventually found their way to Marlena’s to offer their condolences. I’m not particularly sure why they waited until the next day to tell everybody but I don’t really mind it.  We finally got Roman’s perspective! His scenes with Kayla were one of the best parts of today. I’m glad that Roman is thankful for everything that John did for his kids. I agree with posters who said that he should’ve had a scene like this with John, but I’m happy we got this at least.  Julie was used very well today too. She’s definitely the best person for Marlena to have scenes with at the moment. Hopefully, Julie continues to be there for her. And yes, I totally agree with Marlena and Belle sending EJ away when he came to the apartment. I’m curious to see what’s going to happen to his and Belle’s relationship in the aftermath of all this. And, while I enjoyed most of Brady and Kristen’s scenes, I still think the ship has sailed for them. Hopefully, the aftermath of John’s death causes Brady to finally end this thing with her once and for all.  And, I see a lot of people were wearing some kind of shade of purple today.

    • Wow, I love that current and former actors are participating in this. I barely recognize Staci Greason! She looks fine, just very different. But I will be happy to hear anecdotes from her. I shipped RoJohn and Isabella hard back in the day, and I sobbed buckets in my dorm room at college when Izzy B passed. Honestly, I'm interested in everyone's stories. Drake seemed like he was well loved among the cast.
    • When she first appeared, I was sure she was setting Tyrell up for a prank. She was too much of a manic pixie dream girl- I wasn't surprised Tyrell also became suspicious. Now I'm not so sure. If Jessica genuinely likes Tyrell, it seems like a missed opportunity to not have started her out as a bully, then we see her gradually catch feelings for Tyrell.  The McBrides are definitely the "C" family of BTG. They always get last priority. There have been a few times where the Doug/Vanessa/Joey characters reference off screen conversations which seem too important to not show us. Like when Doug thanked Joey for giving him extra time to pay off the loan. When did that happen? Or when we abruptly moved from Vanessa/Joey at Uptown to Vanessa/Doug in the hotel room. The McBrides don't even have their own set - even though Vanessa is a realtor. It's a shame because I am a fan of the characters and actors.

I am also adjusting to KR as Ted but I feel that AM and MJ had way more chemistry as father and daughter than AM and KR. We saw Eva dream of having a real relationship with MJ's version of Ted for months so it's a bit of a bummer not to have that payoff with the original actor except for those scenes in MJ's last episode.  Something I noticed about Eva today is how she takes genuine delight in being a schemer. As badly as she wants to be a Richardson, she still has so much of her mom in her. It was jarring seeing her earnestly promise to steer clear of Leslie in her scene with Ted, then immediately switch attitudes when her mom showed up.  I'm very surprised with how quickly the accident story has been moving along. I was sure that it would be months if not years before people figured out it was Leslie on the motorcycle, not to mention responsible for the potassium overdose. I'm looking forward to seeing how MVJ and Guza avoid writing Leslie into a corner.  Finally, I have been loving the Articulettes story. Bonita Brisker was just the right amount of OTT - remember Sharon is supposed to be even more angry than Tracy is. If Sharon didn't come in swinging, people would say she fell flat. The way Sharon and Tracy describe the breakup is so Supremes-meet-Original Recipe Destiny's Child. I get the sense that MVJ is re-writing the Return to Love Tour as a roman a clef, and I love it. I'm looking forward to finding out what the secret they share is. If Dante Green is as shady as Berry Gordy was, it's something dark. If/when they go through with the reunion, I expect Dante to show up and claim to own the Articulettes trademark in a Lou Pearlman-esque twist.
    • Other than hanging out with Liz, all of Lucky's stories have been stalled out or dropped; the relationship with his son; his wanderlust. He hasn't been involved in any of the action/adventure or con artist stuff. I don't think he's even had a scene with Sidwell since the latter came to town. He's a real after thought. I doubt he's long for the show.
