Too much focus on the Capwells... no wonder the show never got true ratings success.  And I actually don't mind the recast of Santana... she certainly wasn't wishy washy like Gina G was... but agree, she wasn't intense or meloncholy like Ava was.

Amazing how we see things differently. I think the Capwells (and those associated with them) were the most interesting part of the show. They certainly got the investment.

Of course, it's all chicken and the egg as, maybe if others did get the writing, they could have been more compelling.

But when I watched, I watched for Mason (and Julia), Kelly (especially CG's version), and to a lesser extent, Eden.

Most of the other characters not attached there were like a revolving door. Or wallpaper.

I am fine with Capwell-centric episodes but the Lockridge kids have gone missing since the tunnel collapse.  It is particularly remarkable that Laken provides no comfort during her mother's blindness.  I guess that seeing someone's daughter confronted with her mother's trauma would have robbed SB from playing the humor in the story?

Also, why do the Lockridges prioritize having a chauffeur over household staff?  We never see a maid or a chef but they always employ a driver.

I continue to remark on how much story happens in such a short period of time.  The tunnel collapse and the opening of Eden's club happen within days of each other.  They are solving Channing's murder, Gina finds out about Santana being Brandon's biological mother, and Lionel got a job as a bet with Minx.  The later of which seems to never be mentioned again.  It is never boring and the heightened melodrama of Gina#1 adds some neurotic tension.

My problem isn't with the Capwells.. but with the lack of balance.  It's all Capwells with little to no focus on characters outside the Capwell sphere.  Which is why I'm enjoying the early Julia episodes before she gets sucked into the Mason vortex.

Does anyone else feel that SB could've possibly lasted longer had it been a 30 minute soap (a la Bold and the Beautiful) that mainly focused on the Capwells?

I'm on the fence with that; however, I still stand firm that the main issue with this show was that anyone outside the Capwell circle was criminally underdeveloped.

Yes but,

I love the Lockridges and I would miss them in a 20 minute version.

Speaking of which, Nicolas Coster is in an amusing new commercial on UK tv.  His character (with a British accent) tries a diet soda for the first time it makes him ponder what else he has missed.  So, in montage he calls an old love, gets a tattoo, and attends a EDM concert.  He still looks great.

Also, to be fair, we are watching the finale of the big Channing murder and the lead up to Eden's first wedding; so it makes sense that the episodes are Capwell-centric.

Julia came on in 1985. The Baby Contract began in Fall 1986. That said, she started her more intricate interactions with Mason during the whole Mason/Mary/Mark storyline. So I'd say she maybe went about a year before moving into the "big time players" orbit.

I just watched the latest ep uploaded and now the Capwells have two maids (Rosa and Hayley) while the Lockridges still only employ a driver.  I doubt Minx and Augusta know where the kitchen is located but I keep wondering who cleans the place up? Also, once Brick knew that he was Lionel's son did he still get paid as a driver?

Forgive my coming late to the party but I just realized that Stephen Meadows and Denny Albee are two different people.  With the soap hopping discussion I was wondering why nobody brought up that an actor had been on EON, OLTL and SB, then I figured out that they are two different people.

    • Some of those 1988-ish episodes are up. I'm not really sure she did much else. I think I recall something along the lines of she and Rusty had been suspended over the investigation of Nicky, George's supplier. I'm not sure she even gets some kind of goodbye. I think she just disappeared when Pam Long returned.
    • I did not care, just clarifying that was the discussion point. If there are ice cream bars in Statesville I am sure there is a full spa
    • Seeing Peter Bergman (Jack) and Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki) act opposite each other really makes me mad that their short-lived reunion in 2012 was just that... short-lived. I've always loved the Jack/Nikki pairing.
    • No.  I recall there was also a mention about how distracting it was EOB's Gwen wasn't wearing nail polish as well.  That it was someone's pet peeve. And, yes, the fact characters can have a manicure in prison is the wildest continuity issue here.
    • Can anyone remember Mary Ellen Stuart's run as Jenny? I'm trying to fill in the cracks for missing stuff that we overlooked.  Bulletpoints:  * Dated Ross * Rusty's police partner * Directly responsible for Dinah coming forward about George Stewart (Cam's father)
    • But that's not weird... nail polish is allowed in prisons via commissary. Same with general makeup, haircuts, and hair colouring products.
    • This is DAYS, the show that said you could brainwash anyone with simple kitchen appliances.  An actor's nail polish or lack thereof should be the least of our concerns, lol.
    • It was not that she wasn't wearing nail polish, it is that she managed to get a manicure in prison
    • "We're Knot Done Yet": the name of this lovely podcast AND what JVA tells her plastic surgeon at every appointment. In other news, Michele Lee is reminding me more and more of my old music teacher from elementary school, and I couldn't STAND that bitch.
    • I apologize if this has been covered already, but does anyone know whether Douglas Marland was HW'ing by that point?  If he was, then I see what he meant when he said (in so many words) that he had inherited a mess when he started at GH.  Aside from Alan and Monica, none of that material seems very promising.  The story with Mark Dante and the Corbins is the wrong kind of predictable (y'know, the kind where you know what's going to happen, but you just don't give a crap?), the stuff with Scotty and Laura is cute but toothless, I don't know WHAT the hell Gina and Steve Carlson's character are arguing about and Rick Webber has to be the dumbest man alive not to see David Hamilton twirling his invisible moustache over how to make a killing off Lamont Corbin's declining health.  (By the way, "LAMONT CORBIN"?  What is this, "The Shadow"?  And "Corbin Limited" sounds like some jive I'd hear over on Y&R.) In a way, it's kind of like watching today's GH, right down to the dialogue that's serviceable and pushes plot along but says nothing about the characters' inner lives.
