I’ve read an article from 1984 that said NBC invested $12 million into the biggest and newest videotape production facility in the US designed specifically for a daytime drama. Bridget Dobson said that they had the largest and most exciting studio with sets that are unequaled.

I can see that because this soap has many different sets compared to others and also some very big ones like the Capwell house. Still, I wish it has more exteriors. It’s great when you watch scenes on location. It makes the show more realistic.

Is there a time on SB where you just lost interest and you were never invested in the show again? For me, it was when Roberta Bizeau was let go. I thought Flame was such a good character and had great potential, and then the backstage stuff just ruined it. I would read summaries and watch the occasional episode after that, but I never returned it as a faithful viewer.

I'm on episode 34. Jed Allan is the one and only C.C. Capwell for me, but Peter Mark Richman was quite good and now is out. Paul Burke, his replacement, is the worst. But it's interesting 3 Dynasty guys played C.C. Capwell (if we are counting Lloyd Bochner who was really the original C.C as we saw in the first promos from the first episode). Also I read Lloyd Bochner filmed a few scenes like the one in the harbor with Joe Perkins from episode 4.

Peter Mark Richman was my favorite CC from Santa Barbara 1984. Too bad they couldn't get him to continue.

I will never understand how Paul Burke was so, so bad on Santa Barbara. He wasn't like that when he was the lead in Naked City and 12 O'Clock High, primetime shows of the 1960s.

    • Thanks. Appreciate that. P.S. I'm praying for a Summer of Gio.
    • Great episode today. Strong follow-up from yesterday, and a lot of really good dialogue. -- Lots of comments here about Vernon being the Olivia Pope of BTG, but I'll let you know when that happens. He and the family "move into action" after a scandal, but they've yet to really accomplish anything. Vernon couldn't even clear the room of everyone but family when he tried. -- Wardrobe did a great job overall. Anita wins Worst Dressed. That gown did not flatter TT and that gigantic necklace was bad. -- Sean Freeman did great work as Andre in Andre's scene with Eva. -- Brandon Claybon was great as Martin in his most dramatic scenes. I don't know how anyone can avoid seeing how much he's improved. -- There's way too much criticism here of Maurice Johnson's performance as Ted. If we didn't know he was replaced, I don't think we'd see this "He's not giving enough" stuff. My feeling is that this is all confirmation bias. I think the guy's done a nice job. Ted didn't whine for pity and he didn't scream like he's a victim. He's spent decades hiding this, and I think it's fair that he feels blindsided and unable to respond. -- I don't want to hear Vanessa lecture and moralize about any other character when she's so compromised. She's a cheater and a ho. -- It would have made more sense for Vanessa and Doug to be at the party. The hospital visit was weird, and seemed like an excuse for the scene where we (again) realized that Doug knows his wife is a cheater. -- I love this board, but damn, do people give away Emmys around here like gummy bears. -- I wish I knew what Leslie's end game is. Is it enough to destroy Ted's marriage to Nicole? Does she really think she can win Ted back? Or is she just so batsht crazy that it's impossible to know what she wants?
    • Thanks @kalbir for sorting that all out! I feel bad Jane’s return in “The Return” ranked lowest as did the finale…although of course by then the show was in a dead slot on Thursdays.  The Avenging Angel aired without Dallas in front of it and still ranked #12  (same week Knots finale went to #1 the night before). The earthquake finale which aired on a Thursday night fared better year later I believe.    We talked about the show’s syndication misses and SOD took notice with this 1997 article: FALCON CREST: Time to Uncork a Classic Soap Opera Digest, November 11, 1997 KNOTS LANDING, DYNASTY and DALLAS have all become a familiar fixture on the cable-TV landscape. But one soap is missing. We think it's time for FALCON CREST (which was bought for syndication by TBS in 1986) to be dug out of mothballs and put back on the air. Although overshadowed by it's megahit lead-in, DALLAS, FALCON CREST consistently delivered first-rate entertainment. The stars: Jane Wyman as sour grapes queen Angela, Susan Sullivan as long-suffering Maggie and David Selby as black sheep Richard, provided a strong back-bone. They were supported by a wide assortment of celeb guests: Gina Lollobrigida, Lana Tumer, Morgan Fairchild and even Apollonia visited the winery. The plots were fun and often outrageous: tires, explosions, shootings, plañe crashes, eqrthquakes, ¡Ilegitímate kids who became priests, legitímate offspring who joined convents ... not to mention Melissa, the slumming socialite with a lounge act. Plus, FALCON CREST had a wicked sense of humor that surfaced in acerbic dialogue. So let's get this vintage drama back on the air where it belongs. The wine has aged long enough.
    • Jason, thank you so much & I was just speaking of you earlier. I was saying we need to throw a cyber  party with some special invited guests. You were one of them! Not because you are brilliant, even though you are, but because you are kind. And we appreciate you, really we do.

    • I'm not counting on Drew AT ALL. But, I don't think he will think of Nina & I KNOW he would never think of NIna & Carly in league against  him. Just goes to show how out of touch he really is and he really  is. i'm not so sure unless you mean Tracy tearing Lois another orifice. Talk about furious, we are really going to get to witness the impending storm. I may even feel for Lois .... No, I won't. But it was anice thought for a moment. I cannot seem to spare any sympathy for Willow, Drew, Lois, Brook Lynn, Chase, what a list, huh?
    • Yeah Drew thinking her will be short lived I feel

      Your posts never disappoint!
    • This was definitely one of the best episodes so far. So much to unpack. I'm really disappointed with Ted. I honestly thought that maybe he would come clean and maybe try to explain his side of things, but nope! He was denying everything. Also, I was not expecting to hear that Nicole and Leslie were pregnant at the same time. That can't simply be a coincidence. For a while I wasn't so sure of the fan theory that Kat and Eva might be twins or switched at birth but after today's episode I can't help but wonder if it might even be possible. If the writers really want Nicole to eventually warm up to Eva and accept her, I won't be surprised if it eventually turns out that they are actually twins and Leslie stole her or something. And I'll be honest, I actually really like the idea.  I don't know where the writers are even going with the whole Ted/Nicole/Leslie thing, but if Ted doesn't end up having a drastic personality change with the recast, then I can eventually see Ted and Nicole reconciling. At the very least for the time being I can see Nicole asking Ted to move out and he ends up staying at a hotel for the time being until he gets his own place. If not... then I guess Dr. Carlton is waiting in the wings...
