GL Changes Look This Week

I am now of the school if you can't do it right, don't do it at all.

First, what a terrible opening credits! What the hell was with it? It was so disorganized and all over the place. At least the dong is catchy.

The rest of the production value was terrible. It looked like a bad high school video project. It is not only rhe shaky cams, it was the bad close-ups that made everythign just looked cramped.

ITA, the idea wasn't necessarily bad but GL clearly doesn't have people with the appropriate experience and expertise in doing this kind of shooting to make it work. And the fact that the writing seems to only be getting worse certainly doesn't help.

That was BAD.

The sets are horribly lit, that's probably some of the most offensive lighting I've ever seen. The sound was poor in some spots, just really badly done.

The editing is WAY too fast, all the quick cuts, it's nauseating. The cameras didn't shake too much, but they weren't perfect either. Music was bad, closeups were bad.

The only thing I liked was the outdoor shots with Reva and Cassie.

If this is an indication of what the future of GL is, sorry Ellen Wheeler, you've flopped. It looked beyond cheap and was basically the anti British soap model. A total hideosity.

the music is awful, other than IMHO, it was not that bad. I can see this becoming great, but it will take time. and scenes here and there and fulltime are diff. so i am willing to give it time.

the show felt better to me. my only issue is the shaky camara work and the zooming in and out. that needs to end. but again, maybe with time.

i do think that for some reason some people fit better in this format than others. Bill & Lizzie shined, and to my shock so did Kim Zimmer who was amazing.

Maybe the lighting etc will improve. I'm going to use The Hills as an example as it's a similar shooting style. If you look back at season 1 now, it looks really amateurish in comparison to season 3 which is really well lit and well produced...it shouldnt take GL long to improve any teething problems.

From what I've seen, though, they're relying too much on outdoor shoots whilst setting the show in the Midwest...what are they going to do when it's winter? Have the characters walking around outside all the time talking. I also dont buy how Springfield has gone from the bustling metropolis that Danny Santos ran for mayor in and his mob family had a strong presence, where Marah Lewis was held hostage on a boat by some guy and Tony swam out to save her, etc...to small town USA?

another thing, OMG those reva/cassie scenes were amazing. i loved it when cassie brought up how reva says her name, and reva pointed out thats how she has said it since she was 5, and cassie said that the problem.

and omg... i have never liked jon, but i so want him to stay! Lizzie & Bill vs Jon re Sarah could be amazing.

I also do not hate the opening now.

and up til now i never relized what great family chem Mandy Bruno & John Driscoll have.

I also for some reason find ava simi-intersting now. ashlee & coop are love.

i lvoe the church and the light house.

what is the age diff between bill & lizzie?

The new opening is here though I'm not sure if it's the version that aired today. Apparently there are 5 variations.

Not seen the episode yet but addressing the reliance on location shoots and Springhill being small town USA -- I think that's what it and many of the other soap towns were always supposed to be. It was the 80s that suddenly introduced the corporate aspect and subsequently the necessity of showing skyscrapers out of every office window.

OMG I've made better on my laptop than that piece of garbage. Seriously, would it kill them to run a few shots through one of those glossy film look filters, even just for the opening? Not impressed at all, and I would so much rather they used an instrumental track than this terrible vocal track. It really doesn't work.

^i felt that way, but i have changed my mind. a glossy opening would not fit at all, IMHO. this fits with the show. i do not like the vocals tho, i do like the singer, it just doesnt work when soap openings have song lyrics.

i would have much preferd a overview of nuSpringfield ending on the light tower or infront of it.

Agreed. If they took out the characters and left it as sweeping shots of Springfield, it could be okay. But when they're introducing different elements to it, it really needs to be more stylised. The Dinah/Mallett shot against the Fire Station is particularly hokey.

Love the H&S opening btw.

What I meant was the same kind of effect that was applied to that advertisement they had on the website that's up earlier in this thread...where there was a slightly higher contrast and the colours were richer... the opening looks cheap and amateurish IMO...Reva's shot is terrible.

Yep, and the cramped rooms at Spaulding Enterprises don't help matters. I wonder what the mansion's exteriors are like.

I'm still not a hundred percent sure whether I like this or not...but I'm leaning toward liking it. I watched it today and tried to imagine some of my other soaps being filmed like that. I think I could get used to it. Having real outdoor shots helps.
