I think Leslie has a year or two left as a contract status performer...but rest assured by 2010 she'll be recurring, without question she'll get the shaft. I wouldn't be surprised if it happened to John York as well...he's flown under the radar for quite some time like Jackie Zeman did. Ugh, I hate ABC Daytime, so ageist.

Oh yeah, I'm very much aware of that (the good 'ol 13 week cycle). What I mean is that Leslie has probably got one or two more years where they'll keep her on contract before dumping her. Her contract means, essentially, nothing. But I think Frons, Guza, JFP wouldn't want their ageism to appear too rash, so they've slowly chipped away at the cast for the last 6 years. Lucy, Kevin, Amy, Audrey, Laura, Scottie, Alan, Bobbie with Monica and Edward to follow soon followed by Mac, then Tracey and finally, Luke.

Well I think ABC's refusal to write any meaningful story for her in the past several years has forced her to look for other things in her life. I am sure she has been preparing for this for quite a little while. I mean she almost was here 3 years ago when those rumors were out there her, Leslie and Stuart were all going to be fired!

Yes, Jackie has said that she's happier being on recurring because 'if there's storyline, I'll work and if there isn't, I won't and I'm not tied down." Jackie Zeman has a magnificent attitude. It helps that she's rich and was a smart girl, saved her pennies and flipped her house in Malibu for $6 million a year or two ago. That being said, Jackie is also realistic. Complaining about being on recurring won't change it...hasn't worked for anyone at ABC. She's the personification of a positive attitude.

Definitely agree with that. I listened to her interview on BuzzWorthy where she talked about all of this and she is such a well grounded smart fun loving woman. She knows the inside and out of daytimes and soaps.... I loved listening to her talk.

The sad thing is, no matter how bad the ABC shows are and how low the ratings sink, Frons keeps on getting a promotion all while still in charge of ABC Daytime. I find it as no coincidence that vets on all three ABC shows have been consistently fired ever since Frons came there. I have a great respect for people like Julia Barr who refuse recurring and just leaves the show completely, it's just not worth being humiliated by a network that obviously doesn't appreciate your talents.

I would think Julia is enjoying her private life now. She's likely financially secure and her husband is a surgeon, so she'll be fine. I too respected her leaving AMC the way she did, so far she's the only performer to say 'F*ck You!' to Frons and just quit. The thing with Julia is that I think she became very personally disenchanted and frustrated with AMC whereas Jackie seems content, she'll get a few episodes a year (dammit!), do other things, live the Malibu dream, smile...she just doesn't seem to take the whole business as personally as Julia did. Either that or Jackie is an even better actress than anyone ever believed and underneath her calm and composure she's just seething and plotting to off Frons and JFP with the help of Lynn Herring, Shell Kepler and Genie Francis.

alot of actors and actress' are happy on recurring and like it. shows just dont know how to do it right. as bad as Y&R is right now all soaps could look to them for recurring - Lauren is a great example, however a lot of that could have to do with the fact that TEB choses to be on recurring.

as for the list, it isnt that bad.

tho im sure next month it will be

1. Mo 21

... SrB 21

    • I forget that throughout the 80’s the TV seasons were officially over in April. Not sure why that was the case but it wasn’t until the mid-90’s that May Sweeps became a real official thing.
    • Jon Lindstrom proved with Ryan Chamberlain on GH that he can play menacing and evil. He's not doing it here, and I think it's a combination of writing and performance.   To be fair, Longoria has modeled and has represented major companies like L'Oreal, but she was never a runway model. I don't have any problem with seeing Dani as a runway model. I think it's more than possible, and I don't understand anyone criticizing her look. I actually have a bigger problem with the whole "Anita is an EGOT" thing. I think it goes way too far. Give her a Grammy. Say she was nominated for a Tony, or even won. But an EGOT winner? No.   The fact that you're using DAYS to defend a BTG set is telling, since we all know DAYS is poverty level soapdom. I expect so much more and better from Gates.     I can't help it, but I'm LOL at the people defending that backroom bingo hall casino and making excuses for it. It's hilariously bad.
    • If NBC could have for seen the ratings of Lovers & Friends (the replacement for Somerset).. they would have for sure kept Somerset on the air longer. https://jason47.com/days/ratings1976.html  (ratings for Somerset in the final year) https://jason47.com/days/ratings1977.html (ratings for Lovers & Friends short run...getting as low as a 2 rating).

    • I liked them, too, and was really disappointed it never went anywhere. The whole art theft story was ridiculous, but they had a nice chemistry. Certainly nicer than Alan with Christine. With her, he looked like the funny uncle. The worst thing they did to Bolger, IMO, was having Phillip write that DREADFUL novel and dramatizing it while he wrote it. GAG, that has to be in the running for one of their worst storylines that didn't involve wacky things like clones or time travel. Soaps rarely do school storylines, or don't do them for very long. Not the case so much in the early days of soaps, but after GH took off in the late 70s other soaps took their lead and would catapult teens/young adults into adult stories right away. That's one reason Phillip and Mindy ended up with so many ex-spouses--they started getting married really young. They shipped Dina and Cameron off really fast after high school and stuck Alan Michael in a marriage storyline with Harley. Did he EVER go to college? I don't think so. It may also partly explain why Quint and Annabelle had to go, beyond TPTB wanting to do a cast sweep. Teaching is not a profession that plays well on a soap. Quint definitely had to quit being Indiana Jones, because that wore thin really fast, but they didn't do him favors by making him a professor. If they wanted to keep him, they should have done what they did with Amanda (who was in another dead-end soap job, concert pianist)--have him work at Spaulding as one of the major stockholders.
    • Judith McConnell (Augusta) and Denise Alexander (Lesley) were great screen partners on GH.  They got into some stellar arguments in character in the medicine room.
    • He also commented that Brad knows that fans are sick of the constant fake deaths on this show: Finn, Sheila, etc and that it's hard to take this seriously if it's another fake death

    • I just don't think Brad Bell has it in him to actually kill off Liam. He should have killed off Eric when he had the chance. I know John McCook is an original cast member, but Eric is even more useless than Liam. Eric should have died and then it would be revealed that he died without a valid will, so Donna, as his wife, inherits everything, including his shares in Forrester Creations.
