It's nice to see someone addressing the horrible and very sexist writing for women on ATWT. There is not one character with a storyline who is a positive portrayal of a female. They are all crazy, whores or desperately losing themselves to cling to a man. Of course the men are all our great saviors which just makes me hate all of them.

Was Passanante's writing this sexist on AMC?

Well, she did write 2 woman turning psychotic over men -- Leslie Coulson for Tad; Laura for Leo -- but she also wrote a male character called “Dog Boy” who lived in a cage and ate dog treats. So, unlike Megan "Men are Kings" McTavish, Jean is equal opportunity (at least when she was on AMC).

And don't forget, it was the bastard black child of Anna Devane's father that was raised in a cage and called Dog Boy. That always rubbed me the wrong way (to say the least).

But I agree, even though Pissanante sucks ass as a writer (incredibly unbalanced and extremely disjointed), she pales in comparison to McTavish. Megan McTavish is possibly the most misogynistic FEMALE head writer out there. She dumbs down, victimizes and RAPES female characters for sport. Rumor has it, when she was at General Hospital, she wanted to have Sonny Corinthos's bodyguard, Johnny, RAPE Alexis Davis, Sonny's attorney (who McTavish dumbed down into Duh-Lexis during her run), but Maurice Benard (Sonny) and Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis) stood up for Scott Egan (Johnny) and refused to play that. That's what I heard, and I wouldn't be surprised if it were true, since as I said, McTavish will rape any woman she can. And if she's not raping women, she creating extremely oversexualized sluts and holding them up as good characters.

Nah. Jean Passanante just doesn't know how to get her head out of her Ass-anante.

I wonder what kind of story ATWT promised to Cady to get her to come back. If they promised her something else, shame on them, but if she didn't ask, shame on her.

I dunno, I just don't take what she says at face value. It seems to me like she's kind of difficult to have around the set. I have the same feeling about Victoria Rowell.

Victoria Rowell, to me, seems kind of...unhinged? Cady seems to have a firm head on her shoulders, she just strikes me as someone who is brutally honest and makes her thoughts known to PTB. In that way, she doesn't strike me as that different from the outspoken likes of people like Thorsten Kaye. Cady also seems to have gotten along with her co-stars.

I have to say that most of McTavish's rape stories prove to be very well written and show the woman coming out of it as stronger and powerful (AMC-Gloria, Julia, Kendall being a product of Erica's rape, Bianca)...the problem is she writes rape storylines too often! I am all for a gripping story that will showcase a woman bearing through it all and coming out as a survivor but that can always be done without violence (think Cindy and Stone battling AIDS on AMC and GH).

I believe it was the mutual understanding between Cady and TPTB that she would come back as a part of the quad: Rosanna/Craig/Paul/Meg. Because of the negative reaction of the fans to the quad since her return, TPTB decided to perform major surgery on the original projection of the story that requires the premature exit of Cady from the show.

    • @Contessa Donatella, Make sure to cite your sources when making claims such as "apparently she just inked a new deal." This information has not been reported anywhere and is therefore not known to the public, unless disclosed by the actor in question themselves. Once again, stop stating information as fact without providing a legitimate source. What you read or hear somewhere, from either message boards or on social media, does not make it true. This includes information from your "sources."

      Sorry.
    • I don't believe it either, @kalbir.  Ironically, I think KL's first producer, Joseph B. Wallenstein, ended up producing "Hotel" as well.
    • Yes, and by the time the 2000's rolled around Katherine was a saint and a dynamic business women. Hard to connect with the drunken lush isolated in her mansion of the 70's.
    • For once, I agree with Maurice.  AMC and OLTL had seen better days, IMO, but to assume that the audience would stick around for "The Revolution" or "The Chew" was pure hubris on the network's part.
    • It is funny to think of how the character of Philip II, and the recasting of Jill, really changed the trajectory of Kay.  One assumes she would've mellowed with time, naturally.  But, as someone who started Y&R @ 1986 (when Brad married Traci), I rarely associate Kay with her more venomous past.
    • At Santa Barbara I think she inherited a very strong structure. I also think it's the first time she exhibited the Peter Principle & was promoted just one step above her level of assured competence. If she'd stayed in Music Production I guarantee you she'd have more awards & also a stellar rep.  Oh, we totally agree then.  Betty Rea GL 1970-1996 & at 82 she died 12-23-99. Worked for the show for 26 years. Shorter time at ATWT. GL had no casting director from 1996 till 1999 when  Rob Decina came on board. (He found Tom Pelphrey at college in NJ.) he was 1999-2009, so bitter ender.  Jill GL 1989-1994, so I would guess that Betty was pretty tired & Jill just ran over her, which probably made her last years miserable because this lady was legendary! All years from imdb which CAN be wrong.
    • I'm not sure I agree with that either.
    • I think the Ralph story was a one of those Kay redemption stories that came up every so often where she would vow to make better choices. I guess Ralph appeared at the mansion for work and was friendly towards Kay and Liz encouraged it.  There would have been a bit of comedy with haughty Kay attempting to relate to down to Earth Ralph. How it was resolved I don't know. Maybe as simple as Kay announcing she wasn't interested? Did Liz and Kay ever interact until Jill got pregnant/Phillip's death? I don't think so and at that point they would not have been friendly. Liz very much knew her place in dealing with the likes of Kay Chancellor.
    • i've never seen any videos of this ivan! if anyone finds any id love to see haha if anyone has any of the videos from the 1984 plots besides the couple clips on youtube i'd love to see those too !
