Kay Alden hasn't done crap for B&B!!!!

Well, avoiding the maelstrom that this thread has turned into, here's my take on it:

B&B, at least to me, has always gone from one extreme of the excellence scale to the other with zero middle ground, since its first episode. Other soaps usually have one great-to-fairly-decent story up against a real loser. But B&B seems to either be ALL great stories or ALL lousy ones at any given time. Sometimes it's WHo Shot Stephanie? or Jake's abuse story or Felicia's cancer... and sometimes it's sharks eating babies or the third time Felicia's died of cancer in six months or Ridge and Bridget falling in love. Brad Bell has been the same head writer for two decades, and I think he probably goes through cycles like any other writer. SOmetimes he's burnt out, sometimes he finds he's in way too deep in a story... and other times he gets a surge of inspiration, and suddenly, B&B is gangbusters for a few months.

Nothing wrong with this... even Marland, Phillips and Nixon had their off-months. It's what would happen to anyone writing the same show for years upon years upon years.

I DO think (and this is just my speculation) that having someone there of Kay Alden's caliber DOES take the heat off of BB when he's in a downswing, and she can pick up the slack for him until he finds his muse again. Which is why you have a more consistent show.

Jay are you sure you are not a sailor rather than a doctor? I just want to tell you that cursing f*cking offends me young man! Lie...I have the mouth of a sailor :)

But in all respect, I do not see this thread as an attack on Kay. I honestly feel that your opinion is she should not get the praise that is always attributed to her since you simply see it differently than others do. To me, the thread is wondering what Kay really has done for B&B with your opinion being that she has done nothing. As an AHW, which it looks like Kay is, you do not really have as much power (I do agree. It is pretty much up to the head writer and EP to decide which story makes it on the air). You are not one who starts threads to purposely piss others off and therefore look for attention in other peoples' dissent.

Honestly....I never made this thread to piss people off, but I must admit, It feels kinda good!!!! :) Years ago, I was sorta the villian on SON. Welcome back "Mean" Jay!!! That was everyones problem with me. I got too into it, and I will always be that way. If your not down with that, I've got two words for you............

(not the two words many of you are thinking... :))

So the point of this thread is to bash Kay Alden and heap praise on Ron Carlivati?

Perhaps we can compromise and say both of them are good at what they do! :D

In my opinion, B&B has improved in leaps and bounds since Kay came on board, it's a much more balanced soap now!

    • What if they were originally cast as Vanessa and Doug's twins and then were moved to Samantha/Tyrell when the show decided to delay introducing the twins? It's a shame they didn't stick with the original plan.

    • I don't think some of Samantha's hairstyles have worked with the ponytails and bows making her look like an older adult wearing a 10-year-old hairstyle.    Bows work on Kat much better for Kat's age and personal style. We've known since the start that Eva was a hairstylist before she began working for Nicole.  I like that they brought that back, with Ted arranging for her to work at a high-end salon.  Yesterday's scene with Martin bringing Eva over for pizza with his family, and then Eva doing hairstyles for Samantha worked (for me). I did think that the new hairstyle that Eva created for Samantha was less "little girl" and somehow even though more mature, it made the actress Najah look less aged. Can't quite explain it, but she looks better now.
    • That backdoor pilot may have failed, yet one year later "Empty Nest" became a reality anyway, so it wasn't a complete waste of time.

The show was completely revamped of course, but still....
    • Honestly, either 6-7 and 10-11 would've worked better. But maybe they wanted actors who wouldn't be held to child labour laws and needed them to be able to act, especially if they're (eventually?) going to go with their bio mama showing up (June??).
    • I thought it interesting that in the Claybon/Manning youtube with Michael Fairman, Brandon Claybon said Samantha and Tyrell were initially supposed to be 6 and 7, but aged up for technical reasons, first aged up to 10 or 11, and then finally to 16 and 17.  (Not sure what "technical reasons" means but that's what he said.) Claybon didn't mention when this decision was made to change the ages of the children. No mention of when this happened during the process of casting/writing/preparation. Just speculating: I wonder if Najah Jackson and Jaden Lucas Miller were cast later than other recurring actors due to this change? - so maybe that's how they selected Ms. Jackson?
    • Damn, there was a tiny pre-emption where I'm from and I missed the Kat/Nicole scene, according to recaps.
    • That Kristina caused the accident.
    • I'm unclear:  What specifically does Lucky know about Elizabeth's accident and Kristina?
    • Lucky and Alexis covering up Kristina's crime is disgusting. It makes no sense he'd be covering for Kristina.   Drew's plan to get custody of Michael's children was laughable and lame.
