Long lost children...newly discovered parents

At some point or other, just about every soap character discovers a son or daughter they never knew about(some even more than one)or that their parent is not who they thought.

It's another plot device that has been done to death, and like so many others, really took hold from the 80's on.

Who can you add to the list? Which of these stories sizzled or fizzled?

Y&R

Bill Bell seldom did these stories.

Laurie Brooks found out that Bruce Henderson(not Stuart Brooks)was her father.

Later,Ashley Abbott discovered Brent Davis(not John Abbott) was her bio dad.

Jack found out he had a son-Keemo (now forgotten)

In one of the worst storyline choices Jill and Kay become mother and daughter.

As the World Turns

John Dixon had two - Margo and Duke

Holden discovered Abigail

Tom and Lien

Bob and Kim and Sabrina

Pretty much everyone on Guiding Light LOL

JB was really Jonathan, Reva's son with Richard

Billy's bio mom was Sally Gleason and not Miss Martha

Ava - Olivia/Jeffrey

Dylan - Reva/Billy

Dylan finds out Harley gave birth to his daughter (Daisy)

Dinah - Vanessa/Ross

Gus is Alan's son and not Joe Augustino's

Rafe is Gus's son with his high school sweetie Natalia

Lujack... and later Nick McHenry - long lost sons of Alexandra

Also there was the african-amerian Spaulding daughter from Brandon. Forgot her name.

And lets not forget the epitome of "long lost child" - Josh is Erica Kane's aborted fetus on AMC!!!

No more"forgotten" children for Viki on OLTL, please.

Victor Lord? Maybe

Asa Buchanan? Maybe

It's easier to do with men for obvious reasons. (but much as I love Bo Buchanan these days, he looks kinda preggers)

OLTL:

Has everyone forgotten about Eli, the teenaged boy with AIDS that Carlotta adopted about 10-12 years ago? Remember he caused a little trouble around Angel Square (like spray painting graffiti on the angel statue Cristian made), and shortly thereafter just disappeared with no explanation whatsoever never to be mentioned again.

Ryan & Carl, too.

Couldn't you throw Donna/Michael/Vicky/Marley in there, too? Michael had no idea that Donna had twins right? Then Marley was raised to believe that she was Donna's sister right? Did Donna know that Vicki was out there? I know Marley had no clue that she had a twin but did Donna know that Vicki was still out there?

Re Donna/Vicky

Reginald took Vicky away at birth (not sure why) and Donna was unaware of her existence.

On Days,Jessica discovered Marie and Alex were her parents.

Lucas found out Bill Horton was his father.

Renee's sister Lee was actually her mother and Stefano was her father.

Don Craig & Donna.

Mike found out Bill, not Mickey was his dad,

Roman thought Carrie had died.

Rex/Cassie - Kate /Roman

On Ryan's Hope,Johnny and Dakota were revealed to be father and son.

    • I would argue that Another World never played "everything" for laughs. Even when there were comedic scenes in some storylines there were other storylines that were not intended as comedy.  You give 1988 as the end point, and Mary was on the canvas from August 1986 to February 1989, so she must have overlapped with the despised laughs you are referring to at least half of the time she was there. I honestly can't recall any real comedy that Mary would have been part of. I don't think she was lighthearted about choosing between two husbands, MJ's prostitution, Kathleen's death, or even her son Scott dating her daughter Cheryl.  I would have said that the amount of comedy depended on the head writer and there was more comedy under Richard Culliton and Gary Tomlin in 1984 than subsequent headwriters. I guess there was an outbreak of more comedy when Cecile kidnapped Cass from his wedding in 1986, but in general the Sin Stalker wasn't presented as funny, Mitch's return wasn't funny, John's arrival wasn't funny, Reginald wasn't funny. The tone was serious even if the plots verged on the ludicrous. And maybe that's what you mean -- but I would make a distinction between intentional comedy and storylines I can't take seriously for other reasons.
    • I'm excited for us to get back to a full weeks worth of episodes and also us beginning to move into the episodes filmed once the show premiered. We're already starting to see changes in the lighting and the way certain characters are styled. Of course we know this week we have our first recast as well. After the big Eva reveal, I hope the show continues to move into a positive direction and that we see them starting to fix some of the things we've all had issues with.
    • It seems like they may have been going in one direction for Andre and then changed their mind. He had this player/bachelor thing going at first where he was messing with Dani, seemed to be feeling Eva, and then somehow smitten by bland Ashley of all people. I feel like Ashley was supposed to be the one that finally made him want to be with someone and settle. The way he talked her up in those earlier episodes was really confusing. The wonderful, amazing nurse Ashley and conveniently she's unattainable because she has a partner, but he can't stop thinking of her and takes these busted pics of her. It was a mess. However, it all seems to have been dropped. I honestly feel like Andre can go. That may be an unpopular opinion but I don't need his breathy final syllable to be content with BTG. It's always like "There's gotta be another wh-ahyy"
    • This is where McLaibey falls apart. It becomes clear that McTavish had not thought past Brent/Marion...so the energy drops and she starts throwing things at the wall (Blakes twins, Lonatrat.)   Fans HATED this funeral. Everyone is mad at everyone else, which is fine, the death of a beloved community figure would give people a reason to come together...(Quint and Nola could come together at least for  a bit to support each other, Nola and VAn could finally admit they kinda, sorta like each other) Its just an example of McTavish's mean writing.   I have a feeling they were going to make Dahlia Frank's kid but they chickened out. Making Tina a prostitute didn't help, they could have been lovers when they were young but felt society pressure to part. Marcus took over David's role (you can't have two young black men at that time...)   Get used to it...this will happen, the same storyline over and over until the end.
    • Does anyone happen to have a recording or any footage of Jennifer’s funeral?
    • It's such a shame that the conflict couldn't be resolved in a mature way between the two actors.. especially since Albee was a bigger asset for the show in terms of character and his popular will they/won't they pairing with Deborah Saxon. One of the things about Edge was that it was just as popular with male viewers as it was with women.  It's one of things I think the show forgot in the final year or two with the deemphasis on the male characters.
