Yeah they didn't wholeheartedly embrace Milos, up against beloved Wimbledon idols Federer and Andy Murray!

You may remember tennis player Greg Rusedski from back in the late 90s/early 2000s. He was British #1 for a while, alternating that top spot between him, Tim Henman and later Andy Murray. Well, he was Canadian, born in Montreal, but adopted British citizenship in 1995, allowing him to join Team GB immediately. So the British have rooted for Canadians before, or at least a British-Canadian in Greg's case. (Although Tim Henman was the one who really got those middle-class, southern-English crowds moist back in the day -- he was them, basically. The Kate Middleton of tennis, one might say).

Or maybe she just felt that Fernandez' achievement was worth mentioning as well, since she's as young and unknown as Raducanu is.

When Milos Raonic reached the Wimbledon final he had already played semifinals in both Wimbledon and Australian Open so he wasn't a newcomer like Fernandez is now.

Could be. What is clear is that tennis is on fire right now with these young up-and-comers establishing a new generation of potential greats. Women's tennis is especially exciting at the moment!

Cat nice to see you posting on tennis thread.

As for women's tennis... I been so bored with it. It has become so stale. I really don't have anyone to root for. The excitement in the women's tour has fizzled IMO.

When was the last time the women’s tour was exciting for you? I thought 2018-19 had potential to start some new rivalries with Sabalenka, Osaka, and Andreescu coming up. This tournament was the most exciting it’s been in a while IMO. Last year’s USO semis with Osaka/Brady and Vika/Serena were also wonderful.

Men’s tennis has some interesting new players, but it’s not yet exciting again to me. Intriguing, maybe.

I’m assuming you enjoyed the early-to-mid-2000s (with Clijsters, Henin, Venus, Serena, Capriati, Davenport, early Sharapova in the mix), or do you literally mean the late ‘90s (when Steffi was still playing)?
