@ChitHappensI remember that match with Venus vs. Cornet at the French Open.  Carlos tried it and it was especially gratifying to see Venus intensify her focus and pummel Cornet for the rest of the match, lol.

@Faulkner Osaka told a funny anecdote in her interview about an encounter she had with Djokovic just before the final.  Apparently he was working out or something and since Sascha is Croatian, and has been teaching her some Croatian, she decided to try out some on Novak but apparently Novak seemed confused by what she was trying to say.  Perhaps because he's Serbian, was what I was thinking.

Ha. I saw that in the post-match interview. Novak must have been thinking, “WTF?” She’s just endlessly amusing. She has this combination of goofy “no filter” awkwardness and maturity. (Her answers about how she handled Serena and the occasion were really sharp.) And she’s absolutely steely on a tennis court. I adore her.

Interesting. I wonder when the last time this happened in the ATP was (If ever):

Found it - 2002-2003.

USO03-Roddick

W03-Federer

RG03-Ferrero

AO03-Agassi

USO02-Sampras

W02-Hewitt

RG02-Costa

AO02-Johansson

For some reason, that doesn’t bother me much coming from someone who sounds as young and shy as she does. It’s certainly something she’ll need to work on as she ages. It won’t be so cute at 25.

I can see what you're saying.  Still, in my high school English class we had to give a series and speeches and the teacher would literally mark a person for every "filler" word (like, uhm, you know, etc.) they used during the course of the speech.  I would see him marking in his grade book everytime someone said one of those words and was determined that he would not be marking my grade down, lol.

That was my first year of high school honors English.

It has served me well because I avoid using those words when speaking.   I try not to write it in monologues unless I'm really trying to point out a sharp character trait.

She's not as bad as Capriati, though, who used filler incessantly and would often ramble almost incoherently at times.

Didn't the WTA decide to do media training at one point, in the past?

These two have been on a role and barely got warned in the QFs or 4th round...can't recall.....at Wimbledon the cameras would show it and no warning at all. It was so obvious that Tennis Channel had to mention it but brushed it aside....I wonder why....hmmmmm..........

Didn't Izzzzzzzzzner destroy a racket this tourney and it was not called out?

It was hilarious how quickly they got Ramos out of dodge.  He didn't even get his recognition or award at the end

I remember the match.  Vee reminded him that she's been at this a long time and has NEVER done that.

Yup...

.I mean come one....John all of sudden gets to the semis of a major....a QF at the US Open and wins a 1000 Masters in Miami.....you know he is being coached on court...he couldn't do this on his own. His record before this speaks volumes.

I remember it as well and was shocked Vee got warned.

Some of the people who were in the crowd during the final have been posting rebukes to people who are tweeting from home by saying that the booing was not for Serena, it was for the situation.  I had assumed that they were booing Carlos Ramos, tbh.  I think the president of the USTA, Kat Adams got a smattering of boos as well, which I've never seen happen.

    • I tried following the news in Los Angeles at https://laist.com (independent public radio and news) They had up-to-the minute accurate info during the wildfires in January. There's no video, no impact to my mind as to what's happening. Trying other outlets, to get the truth, but it's hard.
    • That's a bit murky since that happened during a writers' strike. Assuming Kristen Marie had a 2-year contract she left about when her contract would have expired and Sharlene and Josie showed up right before that. Lemay was officially credited as HW from September 1988 but it seems very probable that his anticipated tenure influenced events that happened during the strike which started in April.
    • I've seen so many posters over the years who are bright, creative, well-versed in soap history, and who care deeply about the integrity of the genre. I'd put the shows' chances in their hands a lot faster than I would allow any of the "usual suspects" to take control of the dramas they've already helped decimate. When I returned to university in the 1980s, I created a bible for a new soap and presented it in my screenwriting class. It was in reaction to how badly I saw the network shows being butchered at the time. The creative process was thrilling; a total joy, and I still smile when I remember the positive feedback I received from the professor and my fellow students. I was used to seeing written commentary from professors on my work. This one wrote me a long, complimentary note on the final page of the bible, but also graded it 97%, A+. I was beaming ear to ear for days!

    • Thanks. I do wonder if Rose was meant to be more given the caliber of actress they hired. I remembered Sara and Peggy staying longer as they were still on when Soapnet started their repeats. I wonder if that was part of the reason they brought Jake's brother in.
    • Speculation about Missy Reeves' potential evolution on basic civil rights doesn’t change my opinion of her. My view is shaped entirely by her public social media presence—which I find unpalatable—and I have no interest in learning more beyond that. I simply liked Jennifer’s hair and dress. That’s as far as my admiration goes.

    • Cheryl was gone before Lemay came back but I agree with your thinking that he would rather a character from a family he introduced to the show than a family he did not originate.  I remember reading somewhere in the early 90's probably after DS left as writer, their was an either a writer or a producer who made a comment that their intent was bring the McKinnon family back to AW.  Would have made sense for the newer viewers from the 80's.  Much like Lemay's attempt to bring the Frames back from his writing in the 70's in his 1988 return
    • DePriest left in January 1988. According to the AWHP, Rose last appeared nearly a year before in February 1987 while both Sara and Peggy appeared as late as October 1987.
    • Annie was not brought in as an antagonist for Reva. Reva wasn’t even on the canvas when Annie first appeared in late 1994.
    • The speculation……….very entertaining.
    • I had forgotten that several Days stars came out strong against Melissa. Good for them!
