DAYS: You were raped? Eh, who cares?

I am a bit disturbed by how this story is written......

Rape is rape, no matter how it happens. The fact that this rape seems to have been swept under the rug and not being really acknowledged as much as it should be and not made into a big deal sends out the wrong message.....

I am not really a fan of rape stories in general, its a far too often used plot device and only certain writers have been able to write them without them sending a wrong message or mixed one... this one definitely is not sending the right one.

If the characters call it a rape, it's their world, so I'll go with what they say about it. The two actors have great chemistry, and I'm sure that DAYS is going to go with that. GH did it, and that was a much more brutal, intense, onscreen rape. They also went for the chemistry, even though Scotty was a popular character back then, and his story with Laura helped save GH from cancellation.

The difference was GH spent months showing Luke broken by what he did, and Laura conflicted about her marriage and her feelings for Luke. The rape happened in the fall, and they went on the run in the following summer. They didn't even make love for some time after that. Genie Francis consideres it a rape, even if the show ignroed it for years. I think she even refused to play the seduction line, and Luke first hears that in a letter from her. I could be wrong about that part though.

EJ has been in your face bad since the rape. I have a hard time thinking that he has paid for what he did yet.

Sami is a nasty person at times. No one deserves to be raped, no matter how nasty they are. Look at Marty Saybrook on OLTL. She was pretty awful, and she did not deserve the gang rape. When the show flirted with pairing her with Todd, the actors fought against it bitterly. I would not have watched or supported that story. That rape was brutal, even though both actors had chemistry, it was not worth it.

Sami is a little different, because she can relate with wanting what you want, no matter the cost. Doesn't make it right, it just is what it is. I just wish it were being written that sharply, that we were exploring her character more. I wish a writer like 1990's Claire Labine was on this storyline. Sami reminds me so much of classic Lucy Coe on GH, and she should be written with that complexity.

I can concede that Ali and James have great chemistry though. It's very potent despite the story.

I do agree with that

That's cool. I understand how others could view the scene differently. Some of the posts just seemed dismissive of rape in general. Or that it isn't a big deal because it's on a soap opera.

The only persons dismissive of rape are the morons who wrote this sh!t... Re-defining rape won't a compelling story make...

Hogie really disappoints me with this one! Never thought he was this cheap and stupid...

Bringing a real-life rape into the discussion is just low.

How can someone respond to that!??!

If people knew how it felt they would be singing a different tune.

I'd rather not get into my history here, but I can say that is categorically untrue.

titan, if you are expressing total lack of faith that Hogan will do this story well, I just want to say that I am with you. I so badly want another writer at this point, this show has no depth, and nobody else has to care, but dammit if I don't.

He held Lucas' life in his hands. And he knew that without his help, Lucas would die because Sami was not strong enough to lift the beam.

Sounds like an executioner to me.

WHAT!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

I agree. And now I've been vilified. This was turned into a personal discussion with Kenny as the spoiler... I'm just not cool with that.

This is a soap opera. Just because I can overlook certain things on a fictional soap doesn't mean that I give it my stamp of approval in real life.

How many soap characters have been murderers in the past that we all root for every single day? Does this mean that we also excuse murder and homicide in real life? Certainly not!

People took a discussion about a fictional show and started discussing their own real-life issues within the conversation, which is fine, except that from there I think that lines were tangled and misunderstandings occured.

Oh well. I know what my intentions were, and it certainly wasn't to diminish anyone.

I was going to post something similar to that, so I'll just give a big WORD.

I guess a lot of people are alluding to the fact that soaps are supposed to reflect people/situations in everyday life. The audience craves for a bit of realism, something which is very hard to find on television these days, yet alone on the soaps. Unrealistic situation end up causing a lot more damage in the long-run as well.
