Sylph mentioned this in another thread so I thought I'd add my opinions after seeing the pilot. I'm relieved that it is as good as I hoped and should live up to the hype. On paper the story kind of sounds like something from one of those MNTV telenovelas but it's done so stylishly you forget the implausibilities of the plot. It's very much like a soapified Sopranos with two feuding families, lashings of sex, murder and sibling rivalry and it's impeccably shot.

The only weak link for me was not really getting to know the younger generation and Rita Moreno was sort of blink and miss but there was a lot of plot to fit into the pilot. I presume they'll all get their turn as the season unfolds.

I missed the episode last night but I heard mostly nothing but positive feedback on various message boards. Much like what you said, the actors are beautiful, the look of the show is beautiful, and the plots are already starting out with much intrigue. Sounds like CBS can have a winner with this show if they'll give it a chance. I heard last night's show will repeat on Saturday night. I'll be sure to have my DVR set this time!

Now I was told it was boring. I recorded it and plan to watch it this weekend. I hope the positive feedback is more accurate. I had high hopes for this show; good cast, polished look, etc. Even if it doesn't grab me right away I'm willing to give it a chance. You can never have too much of Nestor Carbonel's natural eye-liner.

MANY PREMIERE SPOILERS:

It was anything but boring. The premiere had everything from rival family members secretly hooking up, to incestuous feelings, to secret pasts coming to light, rto hidden terminal illnesses, to someone pretending he was in a coma, to GORGEOUS men.... Definitely can't wait for the next episode!

It needed work--but at the same time it had a lot to recommend it--great actors and a refreshingly (for this day and age) non ironic look at a big, rich, business family serial/soap being two of them. It was getting better though every episode--I loved the character and storyline of the new Australian Rum mixer who had been hired, he rbeign a woman in a man's job, the family crushes on her, etc. It was a different and real feeling story with a lot of great soap turns. Like some other shows last year I think the strike really killed any momentum i tmay have started gaining--I'm not sure how many episodes were filmed, but from what aired it never quite got far enough in the season that even the best of soaps deserve to get their feel. The press loved to claim that it wouldn't and didn't catch on with the mainstream because it was focused on Cuban/Americans which I think is crap.

    • I pray⏤and I know it's a big prayer⏤that Noel Maxam is somehow able to figure things out budget-wise so we can stop re-dressing existing sets as "new" sets. I know in apartment buildings apartments can generally look the same, but I'm over it on this soap. The last time he was executive producer was in 2011 when the original Horton Town Square was introduced, and we had some other sets get introduced around this time (likely pre-commissioned prior to his election), but I'm trying to have some hope he can pull this off. Let's [finally] see it.
    • Definitely not the best of RC's breakdowns. I don't know what it says that I could pick up his trademarks yesterday 30 minutes in without even knowing that he did one. There was something more...quirky/boardstroked...about Dani. Though I love the Dani/Nicole scenes, she was just a little too hip?...which made me think back to the episode when she broke into Bill/Hayley's house. Then watching the episode later on, I saw Hayley was being used as a punchline to the more interesting and relevant Bill/Ted scenes (see you all were just talking about how you hoped they got scenes...one thing this show is great at...what people want on this board...they already have the foresight for it. The reason I feel the DNA test will get mentioned @Cheap21 in more detail). And then poor Anita reduced for the most part propping up an album.    Needless to say, not my favorite RC episode. And since we are in aftermath week, I just smh. And barely worth a rewatch. BUT...was there good for me?    Yes. Thankfully, we still got good aftermath beats regardless of the breakdown.   Like I said, I really like the Dani/Nicole scenes. But I love their dynamic. And I was looking forward to the shoe being on the other foot once the SilkPress storyline hit climax. Quirks aside, it did not disappoint. Dani came in, and she came in fierce for her sister. I loved her attacking Eva. And then her being surprisingly introspective about Nicole due to her own experience. No wonder Nicole reacted to her being self-aware. So did I.    Meanwhile Bill and Ted finally met up. I'm kinda sad that we did not get that sooner given the scenes that played out sidepiece in the background aside. It might have been interesting to see more of their status as non-Duprees coming into the family explored.    And of course I can't leave without mentioning Eva vs SilkPress Sheila which was the highlight. Both of them were giving. And SilkPress was just so cold with it. I did love that Eva finally stopped letting her gaslight her. Sad to see the duo break up. But I did love that she went to Ted. So...the next turn begins.   And speaking of turns...uh oh at Kat and Tomas. I'm sure he won't be staying away from her. So most definitely, Kat vs Eva ain't over. It will be interesting to see how it goes now that most people know that Kat was right all along.
    • Nah I enjoyed it much more last year because of the Harry plot that ended during that time. Nazar being introduced and them. But this time it is so lame and nothing I like forward to anymore and I’m one of them long time fans. Of course I would be upset if they would cancel it but maybe take a year off or two and return refreshed
    • came across this quote that provides some context: “It’s hard to escape the cultural reach of the Catholic Church when you live in the Western world. It is, for better or worse, one of the load-bearing walls of our civilization. Its influence wafts from the church into the streets of civic life, the courts, the schools, the arts.”
    • Yesterday's show:   Can they give Ambyr Michelle the Emmy for supporting actress already?   Truly enjoyed the episode from Leslie and Eva, Eva and Ted, Nicole and Dani to Anita and Nicole.

    • Yes, I noticed after discovering Chandler was in several episodes. It's a shame it was canceled. I'm glad I was able to watch Chandler's episodes.
    • I'm Catholic, and I care, as do many who aren't Catholic. No need to be so nasty about it.. The whole episode was on Paramount Plus. That is where I watched it..
