What was GL thinking? Absolutely no creativity at all! Just slapped together a bunch of clips. And they don't even CUT well!

I think people are thinking of the theme song when they say that about the opening, and associating the song happily with the 80s when many of them started watching Guiding Light, rather than the images. I myself think of that fondly as my first GL theme song too, in its modified 1989 form.

Yeah I agree with jfung.

The visuals might not be much (It was the 80s of course.), but the theme song was a classic, genuine, like Y&R's theme. Also it was around this time GL was great to many, and even taking the #1 spot for a few weeks.

Y&R/Nadia's Theme is/was the best, bar none IMO.

I hate GL's Light, Hope, Destiny opening. I want the old one back.

I really loved Sunset Beach's first opening, it was so classy and the music was great. I never understood why they changed it to that colorful mess only one year later.

B&B's 1987-2004 opening was great too. The current one as well, but the shots of the new cast members look so cheap compared to the original sequences. And because there are now less cast members, the music doesn't fit at some passages.

My favourite soap opening is the one from the German soap "Marienhof".

"Verbotene Liebe" is great too...

And the 1996-2001 opening of "Gute Zeiten, Schlechte Zeiten".

Ok forget the fact that im a huge GH fan, but by far my favorite opening was the Face's of the Heart Version. I think it was classy and a great way to showcase the cast. I didn't like it towards the end, when they cut in the names of the characters, I would have much rathered seeing the names of the actors.

The thing I hate about ATWT's opening is that they clearly spent a lot of money changing theirs a few years back. However, whenever a new cast member is added or a cast member gets a new hairstyle, the update looks TACKED ON - different film quality, clearly done on the cheap.

I personally preferred it when the cast members stayed out of the openings. It hearkens back to a time when shows were simpler, about ideas and communities, and there wasn't this huge issue about who would get that oh-so-important last shot before the title. And I'm sure it was easier for the soaps themselves, as they could just focus on the show. I actually more remember closing sequences, like the early '90s GL one with the stills of the cast members in alphabetical order. To me, it left me with, I dunno, a warm feeling. Now the networks have all but done away with closing themes, pushing them to the side so they can run advertising.

The reason why I liked that one is because I liked the show back then...reminds me of the great Labine era. Kinda like how that bizarre early '90s opening for OLTL brings back good memories of Michael Malone's wonderful first run.

i think all the soaps have pretty bad openings..

GH's faces of the heart was awesome but now its sucks. I think AMC has the best current ABC opening then OLTL.

I liked AMC's one too they had before this with the character's names... the 'gold openings'

I enjoyed the old B&B one too.

And I've never watched AW but I love their theme song so i listened to it all the time. LOL

I just like ATWT music only. I dont even know what GL's is.

I don't want to be the person who had to sign off on that one. You can tell it cost BIG bucks. It's just so slick.

I totally fell in love with that opening as a kid. I remember the first day it aired I was freakin hooked. Had to rewind and play over and over and over and over again.

Oh, and the Y&R "porn" openings from 1999-2003 were great too. Sharon Case looked SO HOT with her poses. So did Heather Tom. The hair was just....perfect! I also loved the fact that some people had different poses (and outfits) and different openings.

^ OMG I love those!!!! One thing I don't like is when there's a lot of different versions of an opening with different members of the cast in each. Y&R and OLTL are two that I know do that. I wish they could fit everyone in one opening.
