Thoughts and comments on today's show...

Today's show wasn't too bad. I actually like Spencer now that everyone knows he is an evil person, and since he is sinking further into madness. Just like when Margaret finally snapped and terrorized Llanview, I am going to enjoy seeing Spencer do it as well, especially since we know he is not long for this world.

As for the temporarily new Michael, not bad...but I would like to see this new guy in a scene or two with Marcie, Tommy, and John before NM retakes the role.

Glad to see that the announcer guy is still there. I thought ABC had quit announcing things like that a few years ago, but we got to hear that familiar voice today annoucning that 'Today the role of Michael McBain will be played by Robert Harte.'

Best part of the day was Viki, Todd, Starr, Jack and Blair.

I don't mind Paige. She is not as bad as some characters on the show. And she even admitted today that she has been an idiot.

I really could care less about the stuff with Vincent/Shaun/Cristian/Evangeline. This Cristian is an arsonist would be interesting if someone other than Ted had died in the fire. No one cares about dead. We all wished we would die anyway. So Cristian just did us all a favor if he was the one who burned the building down.

The Marty/Jessica/Nash/Antonio stuff was okay....but I thought it was kind of boring.

Hmmm....Marty helping Blair....feeling guilty, huh Marty?

I'm going to enjoy Starr telling Spencer off though. That cop at guarding the door to Spencer's room is stupid. Bree is a cute baby though.

It was for me. I hate this one day a week crap where Viki is concerned, so it was very nice to see her there with her brother, neice and nephew. Would love to see more actually.

I do not care at tall for the stuff concerning Vangie, Cris and Vincent. I found it extremely boring.

As much as I enjoyed the Marty/Jess friendship WAY back when I just cannot get into it this go round and its all because of the actress. And where this Jess/Tonio and Nash stuff is concerned, wouldn't you think that Antonio would realize that Jess now has Tess's feelings and memories and would be worried that eventually they would interfere with Jess and how she feels about things?

I like Spencer, the more whacked out he gets the more I like him. LOL.

I liked today. The Todd scenes with the family waiting for news on Blair was good. I always like Todd/Marty scenes. I do think Marty feels guilty, but I'm not so sure she's wrong about Spencer. He does seem to hear voices, not to say he isn't evil. I just think he's criminally insane.

Temp Michael wasn't as bad as I feared. I probably could learn to like him if I had to, but I hope that does't happen.

Vincent is a really annoying character. I think he's a weak link on the AMC acting chain.

I like Nash and Antonio becoming friends. It's going to complicate the triangle and hopefully make it more interesting. I do think Antonio is worried about Jash, but he doesn't want to admit it to himself.

Today's show was okay for me.

I hate Vincent and he brings down the scenes for me. I can't stand the character. It's a poor man's version of RJ and I'm sick of it.

Antonio/Jessica/Nash was a big old bore.

My favorite scenes were at the hospital with Todd/Viki/Star/Jack/Blaire/Marty/Spencer. I love that Viki is a mother-type figure to Todd when he needs her. Sure, they're siblings, but for a newcomer watching that doesn't know the history between these two would believe that Viki was Todd's mother. It's believable. I like this Jack too. Great casting. I'm growing to like Christina Chambers as Marty as well. She's not that bad anymore. Spencer is Spencer. Nothing new to say there.

I'm not a fan of tempMichael. I know it's his first day and we should give him a try, but he seemed so out of place in his scenes.

What is the point of Vincent? To be honest, I would rather see him go than Claudia. This whole "story arc" with the burned down building is so pointless. We watch Cristian, Evangeline, and Vincent argue for a half hour, only to have Van Drew tell us that Cristian couldn't possibly do it .............. he had an alibi. I mean, what a waste of time, not to mention boring. I do like Cris/Van as a couple, but this whole trumped up arson thing better be leading to something bigger ............ it's filler as of now.

The rest of the episode was enjoyable. I am really liking the Antonio/Jessica/Nash stuff, because there is palpable chemistry between Bree/Forbes even when she is Jessica. Plus, even though myself and many others can't stand JAVA, the fact is that JESSICA does love ANTONIO, so she really will feel bad when she ultimately (I am guessing) cheats on him with Nash, which will create good drama. Plus, I could watch Bree Williamson read the phone book.

Starr and Spencer was my favorite part of the day, in that little scene at the end. I loved how KA acted the poor little victim and had Starr turn on the waterworks for that police officer.

Althought it's kind of annoying how Marty is in every single scene (hey! kind of like when she was a show hog back in the mid-to-late 90s!), I did like the fact that she was the one who called in the cardiac specialist. The Blair-Todd-Marty stuff will probably always be intriguing to me, just 'cause I was there the first time.

Scotty: I can't believe you said Paige doesn't annoy you as much as most. She is so pointless ......... so stupid .............. and now she finally sees the error of her ways one year later, but I just don't care!

Erika Slezak always does so well in her supporting scenes ... it's why I think she's such an amazing actress. Viki can be a secondary part of an episode, and Slezak will play the support so perfectly, never trying to be a camera hog like some other legendary Emmy-winners.

OLTL ... keep it up.

Hard to say. It's certainly not the worst soap on the air right now, not by a long shot.

I took a lengthy break (which is rare for me) from July-November, because I was enraged at the character destruction being perpetuated on Blair, the flagrant underuse of Kevin and Kelly, and the strange decision to make Paige a focal point of the show. I tuned in once in a while when I knew something big was going to occur to characters I liked, such as when Todd and Blair made love on August 25th, but didn't start watching regularly again until December.

I like where the show is at now, and I think they are making some wise decisions. I enjoy Nash, Jessica, Blair, Todd, NuMarty, Cris, and Evangeline, which is helpful, as those are the front-burner characters at the moment. I am seeing a pointed increase in airtime for Dorian, Clint, Viki, Lindsay, and Nora, which can only be good, and I am excited about potential fallout for Rex, Adriana, Michael, Marcie, Todd, Blair, and little Tommy.

To me, the show was first-rate for the first half of last year, but sort of imploded in the summer, after Todd's execution. Only now am I truly excited again, but unless Higley is gone or this "consulting" continues, I wouldn't get too damned overjoyed.

I think it's good. I would say check it out and see what you think. Things between Spencer/Todd and Marty are going to heat up this week.

Does anyone have an opinion on what Marty is up to? Do you think she is really out for revenge? Or did Spencer fool her or is she just right and he is insane? I'm voting for Marty being right.

I'm watching it now, but I'm kind of holding my nose. I'm really not ready to forgive Frons for dumping Dan and Heather. Also, the Java stuff turns my stomach and I'm very mad that the show is dumping the remarkable Timothy J. Stikney and replacing him with Vincent. Really a show can have more than one African-American male. Not only is OLTL backwood in not realizing that, but to replace TJS with an incredibly poor actor is unbelievable.

I'm having a very hard time believing that OLTL will ever give longterm viewers a payoff. I don't see a payoff for those of us who are Blair fans and I certain don't see one for Jess and Nash. It's astounding that the show does not recognize that Jess and Nash are a good couple. Blair is a big part of the future of that show. Making Viki play a supporting part is so stupid. The show as the best actresses on daytime and won't use them.

Regardless I'm watching right now in the hopes that something good will come of it this time. Abut 18 months ago it was a very good show. It's been a long time. I'm sensing maybe we are turning a corner. I sure hope so.

Also, I'm comparing it a little bit to the return of DOOL. Days is playing its first team and giving em big playing time. OLTL really is featuring its back benchers a little too much. Regardless, it's worth a few minutes a day to watch. It's the first time I've watch it even briefly since August.

Well, Paige is somewhat annoying, but she doesn't come anywhere close to grinding my gears the way John, Evangeline, Cristian, Vincent, Cole, and a few others do. I think Alexandra Neil is a very good actress. And, while Paige has made a lot of mistakes, I think she does have some redeeming qualities. To put it another way, there are a lot worse characters on OLTL right now IMO.

Also, just wait...Marty going to be popping up in a few more places in the next week or two. Marty is becoming the female John lately, popping up in nearly every single storyline on the show.

I have gotten the previews through the week after next. And from what I can tell there is some more pretty good stuff coming up. I am actually looking forward to watching OLTL every day right now, and I haven't felt that enthusiam in quite awhile.

Kristen Alderson was great today. Loved how she turned on the waterworks to that cop, and then, with that evil grin, began to tell off Spencer. She is certainly Todd Manning's daughter. No doubt about that.

Erika Slezak is great. She could read the IRS manual and keep my interest. I am so thrilled by the fact she seems to be getting more airtime these days.

IA Shane...the fallout of the Marcie/Michael/Tommy stuff should be very good, as will the Nora/Lindsay/Bo triangle. They just need to give RJ more airtime to help stir things up.

Vincent does seem rather useless these days.

While I dislike Spencer, I will truly enjoy watching him go all physco, Llanview style the next few weeks. I felt the same way when they had Margaret go all physco. Knowing he is not long for this world, makes it all the more enjoyable. I love to watch, just to see how crazy he is going to get. And from the looks of it, he is going to get pretty damn crazy.

The rest is so-so.

Agree, I like NM and everything... but this guy is intriguing to me. And if he has chemistry with the others, then I would hate to see him go.

I'm still not feeling Marty. I was never into the character, but with this new actress... I decided to give her a chance, and yea... still not feeling her.

    • I think they’re desperately trying to cover his awful tattoos. But anyway them being unable to style short kings properly has been a major pet peeve of mine for a while now.  I honestly don’t understand what some people expect from actors to even begin considering them for recognition. Let’s be real—awards mostly mean that an actor is respected by their peers and has some level of cultural relevance. Actual judgment on the acting itself? That’s often secondary—highly subjective and shaped by the times. I completely agree on both points. If you’re an actor or a dancer you shouldn’t get any tattoos (sorry not sorry). Tomas’ tattoos are ugly too. And regarding the couples- you’re completely right. These writers are unable to write romance.   Further comments: - Kat cannot be this dumb to keep tampering with evidence over and over again. And I’m officially not a fan of the actress—every time she’s in a scene with Leslie, she doesn’t seem intimidated at all. She plays it like comic relief, which is just too much, especially when paired with Leslie’s histrionics and over-the-top antics. Leslie is older, dangerous, and has literally been portrayed as homicidal—Kat should be at least a little scared. • I also didn’t like Kat playing damsel in distress with the hotel manager. It gave off the same weird energy as Dani with the cop. I would’ve much preferred the version Paul Raven suggested, with her sneaking in through housekeeping. • And yes, Dani again accused Hayley of faking the pregnancy—this time even specifying she might be using a pillow under her shirt. (No fake miscarriage being mentioned) I stand by my take: this is ridiculous writing. No one in the real world—except us, the chronically online soap watchers—would even think of such a conspiracy theory. Haley is no Beyoncé. • What in the world was Chelsea wearing in her hair the other day? And this whole thing with Madison is beyond cringe. Chelsea’s coming off as needy and toxic—basically like every other Dupree. • I’m glad the casino storyline is moving forward, but it’s still boring as hell. Honestly, I’d be so here for a plot twist where Vanessa and Doug take Joey out. • The direction and editing lately have been rough. Abrupt cuts, weird pacing… something just feels off overall. There’s a strange uneasiness to how it’s all coming together. • And finally: Tomas is too much of a saint. Where are the messy sluts when you need them? (Vanessa doesn’t count.)
    • I was watching some August 1987 episodes and they brought back so many memories. I had some thoughts: Lisa and Jamie were so dull. Lisa was such a nothing character. It boggles my mind that so much story was centered around her in such a short amount of time. Joanna Going is a talented actress, but the material was just not there.  It was so good to see Wallingford and Mitch again. I know there was talk about Felicia a while back, but these episodes reminded me how integral Felicia was for the show.  Sally Spencer was done so dirty. She is turning in superb performances in an icky storyline. I wish she had stuck around longer. She has chemistry with everyone. The McKinnons should have lasted longer. Spencer had some strong stuff with Stephen Schnetzer and Mary Alexander. AW waster such a talented actress by getting rid of her. Justice for Cheryl too. I also missed Ed Fry when he left. Sandra Ferguson was a star from the moment she came on. She was charismatic and just popped. She had immediate chemistry with RKK and blended in well with Wyndham and Watson. I'd forgotten about the teenage Matthew.  I have no memory of Peggy Lazarus. She must not have lasted long. Was the original plan for John that he was going to turn out to be the twins' real father?
    • If the new and improved copies that @rsclassicfanforever has uploaded can be manually moved into the "by month, by year" folders, that would be awesome. I personally don't think it's necessary to keep the older versions (which either have Dutch subtitles hard coded on them, or are lesser in picture quality). That's a lot of valuable drive space that could be cleared. Just my view but can appreciate others may feel differently. The structure had been by month by year previously, so I think it would be easier to conform to that, where so much prior work to get it to that format has already been done. Hopefully you can "drag and drop" so the new copies are in the right month/year? Re Clips, I never look at them now we pretty much have the episodes in full. Appreciate others may use, however. Thanks for all your hard work here @BoldRestless!
    • Oh yes defintely, Josh Griffith repeats and repeats the same storylines.
    • Isnt’t this storyline similar to the Cameron Kirsten situation though? Sharon thought she killed him. He ended up being alive and Sharon was being tormented with thinking she was seeing his face everywhere and that’s how we got that iconic scene with her and Nikki in the sewers.   I understand in Mariah’s case this is different circumstances but it does seem like a play on that whole thing. Maybe I’m wrong. I just wish if they were going to make any character follow in Sharon’s foot steps it would be Faith. Mariah wasn’t even raised by her, and her personality is different. I would expect her to take a different path. I understand I could be completely jumping ahead because the storyline hasn’t even played out yet but we’ll see.
    • Thanks again @Paul Raven Monica was completely without redeeming qualities at this point. I always found the whole Monica = Carly narrative regressive, as I don't think shows comparing characters so heavily is ever a great idea, but she's actually worse than Carly was. Was it the Pollocks who had Leslie have a miscarriage?  Giving her a child, especially by rape, was not a good idea, but a part of me wishes they'd committed to it just to see what story it might have had in later years.
    • @janea4old Your detailed explanation and delving into the psychology and motivations is no doubt the opposite of what we will see onscreeen. As @ranger1rg stated we will get a few scenes and some sketchy explanations. Like the adoption of Aria, most of it will take place off screen.
    • I'm suddenly fearful that DAYS is going to pull a Flowers-for-Algernon stunt and Bo's progress will be reversed.  While @te. is stuck on Abe's tiny bedroom, I can't stop thinking of the size of Bo's huge hospital room.
