Is Passions being cancelled?

Can't they buy him out? (Not that they'd want to) but isn't there some way to remove him? Actually, I don't see why they can't fire him if he doesn't have ownership of the show. He's the creator, executive producer and writer of the show. But NBC owns it.

Nope. PASSIONS' budget will go toward promoting 4th Hour TODAY, and the salary of Billy Bush, Nancy O'Dell, a lord knows who else they sign on for this God-awful experiment.

He has PART ownership of the show, and his ironclad contract more than likely says that unless he dies or gives up HW/Producer credits, he will remain in the chair.

NBC can't force Reilly out without enduring a lenghty and, quite frankly, expensive legal battle. And I doubt NBC wants to go the New World/Dobsons way again.

I wish NBC would air DAYS in the late-afternoon. That's the only way I see the ratings inproving for that soap.

NBC can fire James E. Reilly. He is the creator, but NBC is the ultimate owner and sole distributor of the series. If they ever wanted him gone, they would have gotten rid of him long ago. Of course, there could be a stipulation in his contract that said he could never be fired until the day he died or NBC cancelled the soap.

Liza Huber could end up on AMC as Hayley?

Otherwise, the only person that should get a job elsewhere is Lindsay Hartley, as she's the most popular of all on Passions. However, the same was true for Susan Wald on Sunset Beach and she hasn't held a steady job or financially satisfying job since Beach's end.

Lindsey Hartley will get a job fast.

She is the best actress on there besides Juliet Mills.

She is young and has had to carry Passions for years.

Lindsey is a goldmine. She is an emmy-caliber actress who would have at least 2-3 nods by now if she was on another soap or network.

I think Liza will be picked up fast too.

Oh, but Hogan, didn't you know? Neither actress is going ANYWHERE.

Both Lindsay AND Liza already have jobs.

If you hadn't heard, Lindsay plays Theresa Lopez Fitzgerald Crane on "Passions." Liza Huber, Susan Lucci's daughter, portrays Gwen Hotchkiss Winthop on the same soap opera, which airs on NBC Daytime.

Neither actress is going anywhere so um, maybe you should think of jobs for some of the "Sunset Beach" actors.

Let's see, Cristi Ellen Harris (ex Emily)? Or let's see...hmmm...Kam Heskin?

Cough, *denial*, cough...

Seriously, JSF, I don't want to believe PASSIONS is going anywhere either, but we have to face reality. Reality being that it is looking less and less likely that our show is going to survive this. Again, I don't WANT it to happen, but I'm not going to get my hopes up, and then be devasted when PSNS probably is cancelled.

Heidi Mueller, I think, will be quite successful. She is sexy but with a girl-next-door appeal. She'll get a lot of girlfriend roles on primetime shows, I think.

Most of the time, it's not about talent. I love Lindsay's acting, but I am not sure if it will fit well in primetime and films. Daytime, yes, but I think her look may be intimidating on other soaps unless she is the lead character.

    • Thanks for starting this thread!  I was hoping others were listening and would want to chat about it. I'm really enjoying Montecito!  The production and audio values are top notch. The storylines are interesting and keep me wanting more.  There is corporation succession, cheating, alcoholism, bisexual relationships, divorced parents, brother/sister drama, scorned mother, father/son relationship issues, etc. At first I couldn't stand Mena's (sp?) voice, but I've grown to enjoy her and I love to hate her as a villain. I keep hearing Smitty (BTG) in Mike Manning's voice, so it keeps throwing me haha. The only thing going against it is one episode per week, at only 18 minutes long, so we need more content. Anyone else listening and enjoying it?
    • This, plus they nixed their overnight set crew during the COVID era and never brought them back.

    • I did some research because I had a similar question. (also, I don't want to poop on your joke which was amusing, but it sent me down a rabbit hole) A Reddit user who works at TeleVision City (where Y&R is filmed) estimated it takes 45 minutes to set up or reconstruct an already built set.  However, according to union rules, it takes at least seven crew members (not counting lighting and sound installation).  As always, the real cost is the labor, not the task.   Y&R uses robotic cameras, so there is only a skeleton crew on set.  Most of their crew budget goes to production assistants, who cannot move sets.  So, they would need to hire a crew every time they wanted to put up or take down a set (for two days) as well as a lighting and sound design installation.  Which is obviously very different from how production worked when money was more freely spent (and good for the unions for keeping the workplace safe). So, filming a single day in Lauren and Michael's living room could cost as much as they spend on two actors salaries for an entire year.
    • I knew Giovanni Mazza was talented but damn that kid is a star in the making.
    • The Nurses' Ball has always been cringey, fast forward material for me, but especially during the Frank era. The musical numbers and audience reactions are unwatchable.  So many of the conflicts on this show feel phony and manufactured. Probably no better instance is the Gio - Dante crap. Gio's whole story is inorganic, plot driven, no stakes, fake conflict; giving people lame drama just to give them drama, a prime example of GH under Frank.
    • What is the reason why soaps can’t use whatever sets they want? How exactly does it cost money..? I’m sure they still have Michael and Lauren’s house, why can’t they just put it up and shoot it when needed lol
    • I'm binging last week and I still find it so odd how different the show feels. Before I felt like each episode felt so long but the show is gliding by now. I'm on Thursday and it's crazy how real the characters feel. It doesn't feel like Days of Our Lives because I'm so used to everything being slapstick. It's definitely nice seeing layers to the characters now. I'm beginning to feel really confident about the coming months when the new headwriters can introduce their own stories.
    • And, Dani's focus, whoa, when she deigns to really pay attention, her focus is laser sharp. And, Chelsea is a natural attention seeking target for Dani. She is so much more mother than I realized before.
