DAYS to Recast Mimi if Fath Does Not Return

Posted Monday, December 04, 2006 11:21:11 PM

As reported by soapcentral.com in July, Farah Fath (Mimi Lockhart) shocked fans by announcing that she had asked to be let out of her DAYS contract early in order to pursue other opportunities. Now, as the countdown to Fath's farewell moves into its final hours, Fath appears to be hedging her bets in the event that those other opportunities do not pan out. Indeed Fath's time away from DAYS could very well be measured in days.

Upon leaving Days of our Lives, Fath plans to audition for pilot season, the time when potential fall shows are filmed and pitched to the various television networks. With Fath leaving, Days of our Lives' writers have decided that Mimi will be off-screen for about a month following Fath's exit. That would allow the show the opportunity to audition replacement actresses.

"She is going to be auditioning during pilot season, and she's going to see how things go," read a statement on Fath's official web site. "If she decides to go back, then obviously, she will be playing Mimi again. If not, [DAYS execs]are going to recast [Mimi]."

When Fath first made the announcement that she was leaving DAYS, the young actress was dogged by rumors that she had been fired. Fath issued an immediate statement denying that she was fired. She went on to say that it was her decision to leave the show and spread her wings elsewhere.

"I really didn't want to have to 'set the record straight' about any of this, but I'm getting annoyed that people think I was fired," Fath said in a statement. "I asked for an 'early out' [and] I'm just weighing out my options as far as my career goes at this point in my life. I really have no idea what's going to happen with me. And sometimes, that's just more exciting."

Fath's excitement begins in early 2007.

"She has about six more weeks left on the show," Fath's official web site reported, indicating that Fath would be taping through the end of December and possibly into January 2007.

Why can't they just ditch the character of Mimi and spare us all?

I dunno, I still enjoy Mimi with Max and Abby.

Frankly, I feel that if she feels she's too good for soaps, she shouldn't be allowed to change her mind and come back if she doesn't get anywhere. It isn't fair.

If she fails to get any primetime roles, screw her. Let someone else play Mimi.

ITA. Farah Fath is such a snob and I'd like to see DAYS tell her they recasted the role when she fails at pilot season.

I agree. DAYS should cut their losses and try to find a recast that can act. In a perfect world, Mimi wouldn't return, but with JKJ coming back, not to mention the successful recasts of Shawn and Belle, there should be a new Mimi.

After JER ruining Mimi, I want them to just not recast and get rid of the character. Even though I have been enjoying the character a little bit more lately, like others have said it probably is because we thought she was going to go.

I agree that they should just can Fath recast or not and never let her come back, which, if they do recast Mimi, hopefully they will do what they did with Kirsten Storms and just turn her down if she ever tries to come back, however, that is only if we have a better recast.

I'll give the recast a chance if we do go that route... we got great recasts with Shawn, Belle, Philip, and Jan so hopefully that will happen with Mimi.

They don't need Mimi. If Fath goes, then they should get rid of her. Although with Days' track record in recasts of late, maybe it would be worth a shot to see what a better actress could do with the character.

I have a feeling Fath will be staying though and I don't think she should have that option after all her comments and so on. Whatever...we will just wait and see.

In a perfect world, my dear, in a perfect world.

I don't see a use for either Fath or Mimi. Yes we need young people but we actually have enough. And we don't need all of them to be people we've seen come up through kiddy hijinks at high school. I don't see any reason why Mimi "should" be here just because her scooby-doo cohorts are.

I don't think they should wait around for her and just let her come back if other projects don't work out for her either. That is bs! She is not that great to deserve that. At this point I don't really care what happens to the character.

To be honest they should just call up Jessica Morris and ask her if she wants a job.

Jessica Morris might be good as MiMi, but I definitely do not want another blonde on DAYS. When DAYS re-cast MiMi they should go with a brunette IMHO.

I'm hoping that Fath stays with the show. I don't much care for Farah's snobby personality, but she makes a good Mimi and I love the character.
