Big drop for GH. And, wow, that's a big jump UP for GH on Friday, yes? Usually ABCD soaps drop on Thu and/or Fri. What happened on that day?

AMC's ratings are a little better than last week. Can't remember if Zarf's first appearance was on Wed or Thu of last week. But either way, yeah...no hoped for jump in the ratings to ramp up from Sweeps to a bigger Demo!Dec which Fronsie tends to go for in the School's Out Holiday Month. He'll want a demo jump more than anything else, so we'll see how those numbers turn out. I don't really anticipate anything major.

I think Zarf's first appearance was on Thursday. Yup, not a great sweeps month for any soap. And no surprise GH dropped. The return of Luke/Laura brought some viewers back but the show must not have been interesting enough to get people to stay. Didn't Brooke/Erica have a fight on Monday? Maybe that accounts for the spike AMC had.

Well, I'm not happy about those 2.4s for Days towards the beginning of the week but I am pleased by the 2.6s towards the end of the week. Hopefully Days will continue the momentum for next week and get back to the 2.6 and dare I say it even 2.7 range....

I'm one of Hogie's most fervent cheerleaders, but I recognize that he's going to have to get the ratings for Days up. It's been a VERY rough transition for him. I hope he recognizes what the problems are and starts to address them so that he can get lapsed viewers to want to watch the show again. It's not a good sign to have Ken Corday out there in the soap press talking about praying that it snows heavily this winter so that viewers start watching Days again, you know?

I'm still pleased that Hogie is Days' headwriter. I just hope that with his new writing team that he can meet some of the HIGH expectations that were placed before him when he got to the show. More than anything, I would like to see Days' fans happy about their show again, instead of being so down in the dumps, complaining about being bored, couples not getting enough airtime, etc. For just once, I wish the majority of Days' fans (online) would enjoy the show. I hope Hogie can make that happen. If not, given Cordays' comments in his latest SOD interview, I have no doubt that he would fire HS in a heartbeat. I hope that he gives HS at least until May sweeps to turn the ratings around. I have a feeling that KC's deadline is more like Feb sweeps. Crossing my fingers that HS can make it happen by the end of February...for his sake more than anyone else.....

ademption...the constant worrier...LOL!!!

Corday isn't going to fire Hogan. He simply doesn't have the option. NBC only renewed the show on the basis of Hogan's reputation in the industry. If Hogan goes, DAYS goes.

Disappointed to see DAYS drop. Alot of good stuff has been happening this week so the next ratings should be higher. It's a pity Hogan couldn't have squeezed some of this week into Sweeps month.

It wasn't anything toO bad. Here's the cliffnotes of the SOD article....

http://soapzone.com/boards/read.php/days/main/13887

I guess I'm reading in b/w the lines here. I'm sure that KC can't be too happy with the ratings results from Hogie's 1st sweeps. The household numbers were middling and the demo ratings weren't that great either. My impression of the interview (which I admit I haven't read for myself; I'm relying on someone else's summary of it) is that KC sounded irritated that it took a while for HS to hit his stride. Perhaps I'm wrong, but that's the feeling I got.

Again, I hope I'm wrong. I admit I have a tendency to worry, thus the nickname I've coined for myself "the constant worrier." But put yourself in NBC exec's shoes. They're not gung ho for NBC to have soap operas in their lineup anyway. Then they see these numbers?

I hope that Hogie can turn it around and I'll just leave it at that....

All of the ABC soaps are in desperate need of help right now. A good place to start would be fire Frons but I am not sure that will ever happen. At least there is the possibility of Alden/Smith taking over a couple of the shows. Maybe Alden will go to AMC and Smith to OLTL.

    • You're probably right. They may have just wanted edits of certain characters. Hopefully the rest is around.

I'm wondering if there were bits cut from this footage, because to me it seems that may be the case. At 11:23, Laurie tells her psychiatrist that the bar phoned and told her Mark got into a fight and needs to be picked up. It starts to fade to the next scene, you hear some different music begin and get cut off between the static, and where you'd expect to see the aftermath of the fight, we cut back to a later scene of Laurie in bed worrying about what's happening. The credits at the end also show that more than Mark, Laurie and Dr. Northcote should have been in this episode. Another character, Brody, played by Ed Setrakian, is mentioned but not shown. If this is the case, perhaps the original fan who saved this episode has the additional scenes.
    • Anyway… It’s a shame that the video that depicted Leticia’s death was removed from YT.

I've never seen a trainwreck like this in my entire life. 5 pencils and 3 dolls?!!!!!!!!!!! (this little moment starts close to the 7th minute) WOW. THIS IS HAPPENING IN AMERICA?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    • Ms. Phelps holds a BFA in directing from Carnegie Mellon University, awarded in 1972. At a time when women were underrepresented in directing programs, she was one of the few women in her graduating class. To suggest that she possessed no further talents than completely changing the style of music used on soaps seems like a vast underestimate when one reads her online biography through an objective lens. I guess that I should be more clever than to constantly blame misogyny for these misguided interpretations of her management style.  But, I'll never comprehend why fans unquestionably align their opinions even years after fact. Post-modernism, and the ability to reinterpret context through the study of history, seems to elude this conversation.

    • This is 100% correct.  It was even on the nightly news where the US Government would not let the cast and crew travel to Egypt because it was deemed not safe.  The Achille Lauro hijacking took place on October 7, 1985, when the Italian ocean liner MS Achille Lauro was hijacked by four men representing the Palestine Liberation Front off the coast of Egypt, as she was sailing from Alexandria to Ashdod, Israel. The location shoot was probably scheduled to be filmed in mid-October to air throughout November with a two week tape to air date.  Remember on the show they did some in studio scenes doubling for Egypt before shifting the action to Arizona.  It was an awkward end to a truly bizarre storyline.

New episode from late 1973 or early 1974!
    • Coronation Street had a very good story where one of the characters befriended a man who she later learned had been involved in her husband's death - when told right it can be very powerful (not like AMC trying to make it a romance). ATWT almost had a big fire in mid-1994, so this seemed to be a "thing" with P&G at the time. I guess it fits the disaster backstage atmosphere.
