ALL: What Characters Have Been Ruined That They Should Never Return

DAYS- Frankie Brady. His return has bombed not once, but TWICE. TPTB should have accepted that he was never more than a moderately successful teen character...and that was 20 years ago.

I'll stick up for my girl Jan - she kept me watching DAYS that one summer she had Sean locked in that bed - and then Mimi found out and she knocked that [!@#$%^&*] out! haha - loved Jan!

OMG if there is anyone not deserving of being on this list it's Jan Spears. Her return under JER was what made me a fan of her. Heather Lindell taking over the role only made her a favorite of mines. I miss Jan and Heather Lindell so much.

GH has had so many botched returns it's amazing that they still have longtime fans.

ATWT-Simon IMO

GL-David Grant, Nola Reardon, Amanda Spaulding and Quint Chamberlain. Nola's return was just simply a shame.

I still don't agree with any of you about Jan. I was a fan of the character before that disaster of a summer, and have hated the character ever since then. I just hated what JER did to the character esp. with the Jan/Mimi stuff.

I do agree with you about Simon. This round of Simon has been terrible. I can't believe I left him off my list.

And I should have included Damian too. This last round of Damian was bad, and forever ruined the character in my book.

And I agree with you about Nola too. And the way they changed Amanda's parentage ruined her too. She should have never been made Brandon's daughter.

I think Jan had potential. I think Heather Lindell is a more than talented actress as a devilish b-itch. What I didn't like was the stereotypical retread of a psycho woman after her man, keeping him as a prisoner of love. It's been done *far* too many times. IMO, she was written too over the top. Granted, Lindell played it for all the camp it was worth, but I felt she could've done much more than what was given her and had the chops to pull off a far more subtle villainess role.

Pretty much all of AMC's returns in recent years, with the exception of Kendall, have flopped because the characters do things that they would never do or spend all their time with the wrong people. Jeff and Erica and Ryan and Greenlee as couples? Julia and Dixie spending their time with Zach?

Maria's return, and her time with Aidan as Maureen actually doesn't bother me that much, because it seemed like just an obstacle to an eventual Edmund/Maria reunion and Kendall/Aidan relationship. The story wasn't great and there was no spark with the actors, and it suffers in hindsight because of how lackluster the Edmun/Maria redux ended up being, and the Kaidan pairing being aborted in favour of about a month of Rendall before Rylee happened.

As for who I hope never returns - Greenlee Smyth

I've said in the past that one problem with the Babe story is that it was too soon after Laurie for Jamie to pursue JR's girl. Well, the Rylee marriage was way too soon after Greenlee nearly sending Kendall to death row for Greenlee to marry the man she knew her one-time friend loved. And really, I never understood why Greenlee turned on Kendall in the first place. Kendall wasn't trying to take Fusion away and kick Greenlee out, she just wanted her friends to believe in her, and support her as she defended herself about Michael's murder. And I just hated everything about Rylee, and how both Ryan and Greenlee were written from then on.

I wouldn't have minded seeing Greenlee with David or a recast Trey. I also thought that the show should have had Ryan lose control of Cambias (since fans didn't like his arrogance about owning the company he did nothing to earn) and have the new owner make the business decision to shut down Fusion, while returning Chandler and Enchantment for a price. This could lead to a love-hate relationship between Greenlee and this man.

Another idea of mine, which Greenlee fans might not like, is that Greenlee should have returned to her love-to-hate roots by forcing Kendall out of Fusion because she didn't like sharing the power with her, and become the enemy of a united Kane family at Enchantment.

With this story I would not have made Greenlee Jack's daughter (I never really liked Greenlee in that family). My idea is that Greenlee could have intentionally made the "mistake" that put Fusion in financial trouble, which led to Cambias taking it over. Her plan would have been for her own secret partner to be the one who loaned them the money, giving her the power through him. Her partner could have filled the Juan Pablo role as the mysterious man who interacted with all the Fusion women and wanted to invest in the company (and why did they bring on Carlos' brother?).

As I said, I know some Greenlee fans might not like the idea of her becoming the new villain of the show, but I would have vastly preferred a Kane vs Smyth battle to what we got - the Kane woman and Greenlee all propping up the Lavery's and Carey's.

ITA. I think that is what I liked about Jan before. She was more subtle, and I liked that about her. I think Lindell could have made the role so much better if written another way, but the way she was written ruined her for me.

I think JER saw that Lindell could play a complete psycho, so being JER he used this to his advantage and had Jan go totally mad, I really think that is why her personality kind of totally changed, which I loved both personalities, but I think her changing and going totally insane was all JER.

ICAM that Greenlee was so thoroughly destroyed by McTavish that she should never return. I liked the concept of Greenlee as Jack's daughter, but McT completely dropped the ball with all of the conflicts that should have arisen from Green's history with Erica, Bianca, and Kendall. A Kane/Smythe rivalry with Jack caught in the middle would have been awesome, imo!

I have to say I always assumed that Greenlee as Jack's daughter would briefly be a big thing to cause tension between Jack and Erica, and then really contribute nothing. I liked the big Kane/Montgomery clan, but I just never thought Greenlee fit with them, especially after the Rylee fiasco.

The thing I really like about the idea of Greenlee becoming the villainess of the show and fighting with a united Kane family is that it would be focusing on strong women. Over the past few years it seems like the strong female characters have either left the show, faded into the backgound, or been weakened by the story. Greenlee and Kendall are a good example, as they both looked quite pathetic in their triangle with Ryan. And I thought Budig was great at playing the smug witch who you wanted to see get her comeuppance, which she reminded me of during Rylee, though she was actually supposed to be a heroine then.
