2024: The Directors and Writers Thread
I have never claimed to be an insider. But it is not true that my information has not been valued anywhere. However, what I posted here today was not from a source. It was just from a knowledgeable person who told me about Shannon Peace being fired 3 weeks ago. I have reason to believe it is accurate information but you & anyone else is free to believe what you wish, of course.

I'm pretty sure they have far too much work to attempt such a thing. I think Korte is still doing her old job as well as her new.

I completely understood what you meant. The impact of change of one cog in the machine - or one member of the committee - is only that much, no more. But it can be true that a team is improved by change. It's not necessarily neutral nor is it always a bad thing. I think we're on the same page.

What I heard was that it happened right after Dan & Chris were notified of their firing with the strong implication that it had to do with New Team & nothing at all to do with the strike. So, timing, they got back from the strike, wasn't it in Sept? And, the D&C happened the week of Jan. 15th.

We don't know that it will have no impact. Theoretically, for example, if a weak writer was replaced by a stronger writer, then, yes, the new writer would write better breakdowns. But, it is certainly true that neither breakdown nor script writers or a story editor, any of them, at all have impact on story. This is really hard to say! Only the HWs decide what stories to tell & which characters are featured, etc. but everyone knows this, I think.

I'm not good about under-or over- rated exactly. Generally I'm only articulate enough to outline times I loved, times I liked, times I hated. Also things I have problems with. Like Mitch Blake. He fascinates me but at the same time I find him annoying. From his introduction through his time being 100% in league with Janice Frame at her very worst & then his amazing 180 degrees about face to helping Rachel get Mac into emergency medical attention all in a foreign land. And, then, I simply do not buy any of his romances - not with anyone! Typically I do not care for serial "X" storyline, not rapists, not killers, not stalkers. But then, an exception to that was that I really enjoyed the Sin Stalker story which I know you didn't care for. The combination of Joanne Going's Lisa character & her visions or ESP or whatever it was with The Sin Stalker also being her shrink was complicated, very soapy & I also admired David O'Brien as an actor that I had enjoyed on THE DOCTORS.

You forgot the D. If you're going to make a correction, get it right yourself. And, he's a particular favorite of mine.

Who can explain to me how he messed up so badly with GL's "3 Carries"?

I even liked a lot of the high-jinx. Felicia & Wally with her in the back of a truck, no brakes, barreling into Tall Boys, mostly slapstick but a favorite show, I can't help it. It's just Goutman bringing it back for the finale .I get the homage. Still ...

I'm going to tell you something that may change your mind about Gary Tomlin! It was him & Sam Radcliffe with their heads together who came up with Carolyn the gorilla! Obviously I'm mock serious, although it's true that they saddled us with that thing.

I knew that Alan was attending & I had urged Karen to see if he could do a zoom from there. Well, I'm sorry for your dilemma!

ALL: The "Soapourri" Thread
I've just been doing a photo album devoted to Connie. First she was a successful model. There's an Elizabeth Arden lipstick ad that is so famous it hangs in the National Gallery, although it is the color version which I cannot find. Then she did those anthology dramas like Playhouse 90 & live theatre. Then she did so many primetime episodics & she did multiple Perry Masons. Somewhere in there she made the movie A Summer Place where she delivers one of those famous slaps to her daughter. Her character is an awful person but her husband is worse! And then she did a handful of soaps. She's my favorite actress. I, too, have long been aware of soap actors first in Star Trek but then in other sci-fi. Nancy Lee Grahn & Kim Zimmer both did guest shots in Babylon Five. A guy on Twitter is watching Sanford & Son & Fred watches DAYS!

A friend who was both a soap fan & a comic book aficionado copied a page out of a kind of an encyclopedia of comic book plots & brought it to show me because it was the spitting image of DAYS Paris underground storyline.

Yes, I know. I know that poster. And I saw this in the original. And, it's very true that Twitter today is very flaky & full of glitches. And, BTW, I looked everywhere & guess what? There is no new NAC interview. Not that we are at all surprised. But at least this "issue" has now reached the sense of humor stage. A random post about Trina showing her grief today turns into her being upset after hearing he unfollowed some of his castmates!

Cognitive dissonance? Broken teleporter? Diminishing ratings? Advertisers sell a bill of goods claiming one demo was a better customer than another?
