Star Trek returns with streaming series
The Section 31 movie sure is something! I do think these smaller scale and more specific movies are what they should be doing, but oof. I didn't realise there was a topic here on LD but those final two episode were thrilling. I never thought I'd see Jolene Blalock and Alfre Woodard back, even if it was just their voices. I love SNW and I'm super intrigued by Starfleet Academy, especially since it attracted such a good cast. They really need some new blood for their other shows and endevors though.

If she's not able to in person, I hope they'd at least have her on the phone with Laura, like they did when Monica talked to Liz during Epiphany's memorial. As for Monica's memorial, this isn't the Guza/JFP era where Lila died and they had to fly in Lucy, Kevin, Robin, Lee, Gail, Felicia, and whoever else to say one or two lines and then bounce. Basically everyone important Monica interacted with in the past 35 years is either on the show currently or dead (in real life or on the show). Between who they've got, who they can probably get for an appearance, and flashbacks, they've got enough to do this right.

I'm sure they'll do whatever they need to do to get Denise Alexander there. Out of all the memorials they done over the past decade, they've basically gone out of their way to make sure they get who they need there and involved however. The two big misses were Frisco at Sean's memorial and Luke being involved with Bobbie's, and the show couldn't really do much about either of those. Outside of Denise Alexander, I'm sure they'll try to get one of the Emilys. She doesn't have much of a connection to the characters left, but I imagine they probably ask Robin Christopher. I honestly though feel like between Tracy, Ned, Lois, and Jason for family and then Laura, Lucy, Felicia, Liz, and Anna, there's enough people to do a good memorial.

I think I posted a version of this same thought when either Stuart Damon or Jackie Zeman died, but watching some old clips of Leslie Charleson the past few days and man, that GH cast from like 1990 to 1997 was just so good. The stories weren't always great, but that cast was. Alan, Monica, Tracy, Edward, AJ, Jason, Ned, Emily, Mary Mae, Justus, Luke, Laura, Lucky, Robert, Anna, Holly, Robin, Frisco, Mac, Felicia, Lucy, Kevin, Sean, Tiffany, Bobbie, Tony, Lois, Scott, Ryan, Brenda, Sonny, Steve, Audrey, Dominique, Karen, Jagger, Stone, Julia. Then people like Stefan and Alexis towards the end. Just about as perfect as it ever got. Even people like Damian and Katherine were miles better than some of the flops they've had since then.

The Politics Thread
I remember years ago saying on here that from my outside perspective the US media seemed liberal to me. I was so wrong and naive. On behalf of Australia, I apologise for the Murdochs. I blame them for so much of this and for our troubles here. Also, I'm going to be honest- I feel no sympathy for the Jewish men in the US who voted for Trump and are now getting all kinds of abuse and racism from Trump supporters. Some of the dumbest pick mes on Earth. I was happy to see that Jewish women overwhelmingly voted for Harris. I hated seeing the far left trying to isolate and drive Jewish people out of leftist spaces (an issue here too). The Palestinian supporters who didn't vote and are now crying over Trump are also looking real stupid. He told them exactly what his Gaza plans were and they ignored him. My cousin in Israel has been saying that the far right there is practically giddy that he won because they know they can totally wipe out Gaza. Just totally played themselves.

The Politics Thread
Naturally. Going to be unbearable when Trump inevitably ends up giving Bibi a blank check to do whatever he wants and there is no Gaza to speak of. I'm think I'm more pro-Israel/two state solution compared to most people on the liberal side of things, and I pretty much lost hope on that situation with him winning. That's totally out the window I fear.

Watching this from Sydney and heartbroken for the people in the US who don't deserve this. I honestly feel like this just shows he was going to win no matter what. I don't know what else she could have done. Terrified about what this means for Ukraine and Gaza/Israel. The people who protested voted for whoever over Gaza really played themselves because he'll let Bibi completely bulldoze it and build condos.

GH: Character Recast
Kin Shriner has played out far more embarrassing stories over the years than the Scott and Liesl romance. He's also always had an age appropriate love interest. I sincerely doubt that after all these years he's suddenly mad about a romance that was basically harmless.

Israel, Gaza, and Palestine
As a Jewish person with family in Israel and as a person on the left politically, I find this to be an almost impossible situation and torn between two sides. I'm not a fan of the current Israel government at all, but I do want Israel to exist. I *hate* the bombing and destruction in Gaza. I understand having to get rid of Hamas and support that. But I feel like we've gone way past that now and I'm finding it very hard to rationalise most of the extreme response. Self defense and trying to save hostages is one thing, but I don't understand the endgame of just levelling the place to the ground. I also find the rampant antisemitism and anti-zionism stuff I'm seeing both in real life and online to be incredibly hard to deal with. I can't speak for in the Us, but it's gotten bad in Australia. Zionist becoming synonymous with basically anyone who is Jewish or shows even vague support for the Jews and/or Israel is disheartening to say the least. I'll always be on the left politically but I will admit that most online leftist have done a great job of making me, and I imagine others in the same situation, feel isolated from that side of the political spectrum recently. I don't know what the answer to the conflict is, other than some sort of shared land. Iran will never let that happen so here we are. I was always raised to pray for peace for both Israel and Palestine and to hope for a two state solution. I hope at some point we can get there without both sides bombing each other into oblivion. I do want a ceasefire as long as the hostages are part of that deal. Netanyahu has also got to go. He's completely to blame for the current situation. Obviously though a lot of people for decades though share in the blame. I'll refrain from posting to much more for now as of now because I don't want be the one that sets the tone of the thread because I hope to see a lot of other perspectives.

Is there any particular reason these southern US states seem to be fine with voting for Democrats for the Senate, Representatives, and Governors but it never translate to them voting that way for President? I know Georgia is heading towards becoming a Democrat state, but what's the deal with these other states seemingly being fine with all Democrats except for when it comes to the President?

As left leaning Jewish person, I've found most of the past two weeks to be incredibly demoralising, especially the hospital debacle yesterday. I was always raised to support and pray for peace for both the Israelis and Palestinians. I support a two state solution. Some of the stuff I've seen from the extremes on both sides recently has just been difficult to see. I've just basically had to shut it off and look away. I think there were a few other Jewish posters here. I'm not sure if there were any Palestinians. I hope everyone is staying safe and trying to do the best they can during all this.

General Hospital: July 2023 Discussion Thread
I feel like outside of Michael, who is a dud of course, the "younger" GH male cast is in okay shape. Chase isn't my favourite, but he's passable. Backstory aside, Cody is fine. Dante is good. Zeke seems popular. TJ is good as well. I'd get rid of Michael, bring back a good Lucas and/or Tommy Hardy, and go from there. The main issue is the younger female cast. Maxie needs to go. Sasha and Willow are not needed. I guess they're finally using Kristina but just get rid of Molly at this point. No to Joss. No to Esme. Trina and Brook is fine, but they need some more. I didn't go through everyone's suggestions but there's got to be some 20s/30s girls out there to bring on. I get there's some reason they won't use Serena, but there's definitely some others out there. I'd definitely use Emma and Lila Rae instead of Joss and Esme. I still try to figure something out about Lulu, Nikolas, and Lucky. They need at least one or two of them. Gh though is just allergic to their legacy characters outside of ones that fell out of Carly. I've never seen a show that is sitting on like 10-12 goldmine characters offscreen and that they refuse to use.

Star Trek returns with streaming series
@Vee I was travelling and missed the first week, but just got caught up. I've thought this season started off really well. Last week's episode was a legit great hour of television. I'm loving Carol Kane and think she's a great addition. Interested in her whole mysterious race and vibe. I hope we learn more. I agree on Chapel. Maybe it's just me, but I find her really dynamic and interesting on this show. I know we all love Majel and her roles, but I kind of hate that we know where Chapel ends up and that she becomes less important over time. It's one of the big downers of the series for me. Really interested in the rest of the season, especially whatever this musical episode they're teasing is and the Lower Decks crossover. I haven't gotten around to looking deeply into the Prodigy thing but that sucks since I thought it was popular. How much do you think it might affect the live action shows? I feel like they'll still do Academy since they've already committed, started work for it, and have the sets. I'm interested to see where this leaves any Legacy series, even though I still think that's probably a go too.

Neighbours: Discussion Thread
Not that surprising given what they've been saying on tv here and him telling the press that he wants to keep making appearances here and there, but still classy. I assume it being on Amazon now probably also helped.

He tweets a version of this tweet basically every time he finds out he's not getting any scenes for a month or two. I'm sure it's fine lol.

GH: Classic Thread
That GH cast from about 1991 to around 1996 was pretty immaculate. The stories before Labine got there weren't always great but that was as good a cast of character as I think GH ever had. All of the original Quartermaines. The Wards. Anna, Holly, and Robert for a while. Luke and Laura. Steve and Audrey. Felicia, Mac, Robin, Stone, Lucy, Kevin, Lois, Brenda, Sonny, Sean, Tiffany, Bobbie, Tony, Karen, Jagger, Ryan, Scott, Dominique, Lucky, the original kid Maxie. That's just a really solid group in that era. Even the losers and flops like Katherine, Jenny, and Paul or b-level characters like Julia Barrett and Damian Smith were better for the most part than a lot of the people we get now.

GH: Jackie Zeman passed away
You're right, I forgot about the goodbye scenes he managed to get in there for Edward. That was extremely classy and touching. Idk if they knew she was ill or not, but I'm glad they got that scene in there for her at the recent Nurses Ball.

GH: Jackie Zeman passed away
Heartbreaking. I know a lot of us here grew up watching GH with that 80s/90s cast and she was a big part of that. All those stories with Tony, BJ dying, the relationships with Felicia and Luke, the fights with Lucy and Laura, finding out about Carly, the custody battle with Tiffany, her and Stefan- all core GH memories for me. She'll be missed. I know it's a little early to speculate on what GH will do farewell wise but I'll echo people saying I hope they find a way to include Tony Geary, Brad Maule, Sarah Brown, and even Tamara Braun. When was the last time GH even had to deal with a cast member this active appearance and story wise passing? When Mary Mae died? Epiphany came and went and I feel like we were barely seeing people like Edward, Steve Hardy, and Lila by the time they passed. Bobbie wasn't on a lot but she was still active and involved.

General Hospital: May 2023 Discussion Thread
Abysmal! I remember multiple episodes towards the end where he just showed up to sit there and say one word because they clearly didn't want to have him act much. Hands down one of, if not the worst, actor to be a regular on a Star Trek show. He has been marginally better on GH, but not by much.
