Y&R: Ed Scott Returns As Senior Producer
No way - a daytime producer that cares about lighting?! If I live to see the day....

Y&R: Ed Scott Returns As Senior Producer
Thrilled about the news. Not expecting miracles, of course. I think the best we can hope for is a show that, at least production-wise, is more cohesive. Better directing, nicer lighting, some improvements in costuming and design -- Scott is an experienced producer that can make it look better and was around for much of the classic years with excellent production.

Lady Gaga is back with the first single from her next album and it's back to her dark, big electro pop of The Fame Monster and Born This Way -- and rightly earning raving reviews:

DAYS: R.I.P. Drake Hogestyn (John Black, Days of our Lives)
This is really sad. How devastatingly surprising. He always seemed such a wonderful man. His presence will be sorely missed, on the show and I'm sure in real life.

Y&R: Amy Lewis Returning
Bizarre. Amy was a lovely presence on the show but largely due to SW and the relationships with the characters at the time (who are no longer around). She is NOT a major character with current ties that would explain a recast. If SW were to return, it would justify the randomness as a nostalgic piece of the show's history being brought back. Otherwise....

Melrose Place reboot in the works
Exciting! I mean, Jo looking for her baby/reuniting with him, only for him to be caught in Amanda's clutches is a story that writes itself. lol

Dallas Discussion Thread
I think J.R. vs Pam would've been the natural evolution of that storyline and, at least by me, was expected (and something I looked forward to tremendously). I do agree with the delay of delivering that promise in theory (which took the shape of the jungle stuff). J.R. would 100% have come up with a scheme to keep Pam away, so the idea of it was excellent and only served to build up to a big confrontation and eventual all-out war. The execution of it, of course, was rather atrocious. I am so sad at the potential that was wasted, especially since Principal had become quite wonderful by then. I truly think it would've creatively refocused the show, kept people interested (if done right), and maybe even enticed Principal to stick around longer (although she had very clearly been aiming to get out after her 10th season for a while). To be fair, however, KL had a concept that was pretty malleable and easily expanded (and, in fact, had done so several times already before it even became a long-running show!). With DALLAS being about a single family and that family business, how does one do that? Go too far and the show becomes unrecognizable, and if the changes are anything but really well done, they are rejected.... They should have focused on JR vs Pam and looked into fresher things they hadn't done that much of, and that would be enough. They didn't need to reinvent the wheel (which they did, in a way) as long as they kept the writing tight and the show entertaining. Instead, they just decided to give up and coast on the past and their stars' appeal(s).

Dallas Discussion Thread
What really struck me about Season 13 (other than the REALLY lackluster scripting and execution) was that the show still had plenty of good storyline ideas, one of them being the introduction of an adult male heir for J.R. It was great, on paper, to have J.R. deal with the complications of a grown son, which we never would've gotten if we waited for John Ross to grow up. Sadly, the execution....

The Madonna Thread
Rebel Heart was full of bops and wonderful ballads and should be more recognized for that than it is. It's not among her brilliant work - but certainly not among her least good efforts.

Knots Landing
Yeah, it never gets better than Seasons 5 and 6. There is still a lot of good in seasons 10-14 (yes, even the dreaded season 13, which I had a lot of patience for), especially seasons 10-11. I do need to rewatch them, though.

Knots Landing
Yep, the teasers. I earlier tried S05E03 randomly and there was no teaser. But it looks like some episodes in season 5 have edited out the teasers and others have not.

Knots Landing
EXCITINGNESS!!! Such a long time coming. (Of course, previews have been edited out Should be interesting to see how the get around recaps, especially in Season 11). And they made fake DVD covers for all the seasons! Almost makes up for not having them on DVD! lol

Knots Landing
Dipping in and out of Seasons 10 and 11 these past couple of days and, yep, still great seasons. I am very much looking forward to the show being on demand so I can do a proper rewatch not in DVD quality. I have to say, the season 11 episodes airing right now look GREAT. This can't be HD already, can it? I'm looking forward to the HD remaster but am so afraid of how badly they'll butcher it; they'll almost assuredly take out the previews and the recaps, which is much more egregious, especially since KNOTS got creative with how they did the recaps and I can see it becoming a mess.

Knots Landing
Gosh, Season 8 is so rough to get through again, even binging some of it like this today. I actually found a new appreciation for Season 7 as I rewatched a good chunk, although my issues with it remain. Season 8, however, I found worse than I remembered (even the theme song!). I adored Karen's kidnapping, but it took such a dive. I had as much patience with the Jean Hackney story when I was first watching as one could possibly have, but it is such a horrific story in so many ways. I would easily count it as the worst story the show ever did. Paige had not clicked yet -- I remember she somewhat annoyed me for a good 2-3 seasons before she became one of my favorite things about the show. The tone has changed, away from soapy grandeur to a more down to earth one. That ultimately ended up allowing KNOTS to more than survive the late 80s-early 90s, but they have not fine-tuned it yet. I can see the attempts at creativity (the flashbacks, Hackney, etc) - they certainly were not lazy, it just all feels so... flat. At least season 9 improved.... despite even more horrific stuff.

Knots Landing
Season 7's "High School Confidential" jumped from the 37 minute mark to the freezeframe, omitting 10 minutes lol

Knots Landing
There's something so comforting about being able to just tune in and catch a few moments of Knots at any point. Excited for on-demand, of course.

What Are You Watching/Binging/Streaming Now?
Although I kinda miss Lucas and Peyton, I thought the transition into the new characters was well done and I have developed affection for them. I actually don't think Brooke quite works as a romantic lead character the way Peyton did but I understand why they're trying to fit her into that role. I enjoyed Dan and Rachel's half-season return but do wish they had done more with that. And I really missed the over-the-top soapy shenanigans, which they mostly stayed away from, until evil doppelganger Katie showed up -- so much fun! And really great cliffhanger with the double shooting.
