  1. Glad you are feeling better Slick! Now some requests Trisha Noble Lindsay Bloom Shirley Jones Penelope Windust Robert Symonds
  2. How about Mrs Columbo-such an ill conceived idea. NBC soon realized that Columbo connection was pointless and rejigged the show as Kate Loves A Mystery -to no avail.
  3. Whatever happened to Doug Sheehan? From a few primetime guest spots to contract and popularity on GH, leading to KL and then starring on a sitcom (Day by Day) it seemed that another series was on the cards or some prominent appearances in TV movies or mini series and perhaps a return to soaps when things cooled off but he just seemed to vanish. Maybe his choice?
  4. Speaking of Vanessa, I still believe they waited way too long to introduce an illegitimate son for JR. It was a believable twist that JR would have a child out there. Looking back at the early self contained eps, they burned through a lot of story, most of which was done and dusted in an episode and forgotten. Imagine if Ray's country singer girlfriend Garnet had returned or Pam's first hubby etc What happened to Aunt Maggie? Was she Digger's sister?
  5. Yes looking at that shot of Val's house, that set looked more like daytime. So many sets , especially these days, are way too small.
  6. Agree. A lot of actors don't watch their show-learn their lines for their scenes and that's it. Understandably self interested in their job not the show or the genre. Explains why they can be enthusiastic about a story that is universally hated because it gives them a lot of airtime and meaty scenes to play. Think about other workplaces-are you really interested in what another department is up to? As a former teacher, I had enough on my plate without being concerned about what Sally was up to in the other building.
  7. Wonder who played Mrs Taylor? maybe a known actress from soaps or primetime? Poor Diana did not have a good track record with children...maybe it could have been revealed that Amy Vining was also adopted and Diana was her mother! Lesley and Diana could swap obsession stories. Having that detail included probably meant the writers planned to use it down the track, but Lesley's took prominence and Diana's was dropped. Fascinating as always and shows how skimpy other 'History of GH' have been.
  8. Hello and welcome. Feel free to defend Cranny? Dricket? All opinions welcome here!
  9. Had the flirtation with Imani revealed that side of Nate's persona, it would have been a build up to his liason with Victoria. But instead it was the same scene over and over. Nate looked flattered/embarassed and that was that.
  10. When Marland arrived at GL he praised the Dobsons but immediately pointed out there were no young stories hence the arrival of Morgan/Kelly/Tim etc Marland said he liked writing about the young ones because their lack of maturity and experience meant you could write jealousy/misunderstandings/fickleness much easier and more believably than with older characters who could look dumb or selfish. It didn't help that the SB youngsters were played by green actors given 'hi jinks' stories. If they had committed to young love/serious stories things might have worked better.
  11. 1978 CBS developing 'Beautiful 'starring Diahann Carroll as head of a LA modeling agency. No further info but definite soap potential. 'Three Coins in the Fountain' 60 min series. With Joe Hardy producing and Diana Gould scripting and based on the 50's movie, again soap like elements for sure.
  12. That's funny because I see them all piling into an Subaru and heading to a country cabin to meet up with Sue Flannery for a girls weekend. And Suzanne Rogers is NOT invited.
  13. A Variety report from August 78 on the LA market shows Edge winning its 3 pm timeslot in a tie with Flinstones & Friends on indie KTTV. That was during Summer so a lot of kids would be in front of the TV watching Flinstones, which leads me to believe Edge would be stronger in the fall when kids were back at school. Just confirms reports the EON did well in big cities when it was shown in the post GH timeslot.
  14. July 78 Marble Arch productions, recently formed production house developing 'Crossroads' for NBC based on long running UK serial. Doris Quinlan to oversee, with scripts from the original available for use in developing US version.
  15. Variety June 1978 Plans by NBC daytime to serialize two gothic novels into 13 week serials have been scrapped. They were 'Spindrift' by Phyllis Whitney and 'The Dark Shore' by Susan Howatch. This was shortly after Fred Silverman took over at NBC. He most likely kiboshed the idea as expensive and impractical/too risky. Still it would have been fun to see that idea onscreen. Instead the report says NBC will focus on building 'America Alive' and 'For Richer,For Poorer' as well as revitalizing 'The Doctors'. We saw how that turned out.
  16. Re Suzanne and Dee, maybe Sue was a part of Dee's special friends group with Jane Eliot and there was some kind of falling out?
  17. On Y&R in 79, Kay was thought to have died in a fire at the asylum, but she escaped and kept tabs on Suzanne, Jill and Derek, whilst revealing herself to Liz. Later Paul faked his death and I think only Lauren and Carl knew?
  18. Not to worry...when Marie passes they'll put up a photo of Liz.
  19. And possibly Deidre Hall.
  20. Like every other 'story' this one will peter out with zilch consequences. Everyone will be mad at Phyllis for a few eps and Michael(offscreen) will get any charges dropped. A witness will come forward-offscreen (or meet Chance at CL) to say they saw someone else at the motel and Chance will uncover that some criminal crony of Stark bumped him off which will allow Phyliis to prove she was completely innocent. End of.
  21. Came across a CBS pilot 'King of the Road that aired May 78, about goings on at an Alabama motel. Playing a waitress was Lee Crawford -Y&R's own Sally McGuire Roulland. Always interesting (at least to me) where those early Y&R players went after leaving the show. And Brian Kerwin (Greg #2) turned up in 'The Busters' an MTM CBS pilot, also aired May 78, co starring with Bo Hopkins as cowboys on the rodeo circuit.
  22. Came across an CBS pilot 'King of the Road' that aired May 10th 1979. It starred Roger Miller, singer famous for the song of that title as a semi retired singer who co-owns an Alabama motel. That co-owner is played by Larry Haines. Had the pilot been picked up we would have been seeing a lot less of Stu Bergman as primetime would have had first dibs on his services. I wonder what Larry's Search contract terms were? Maybe he had a clause that if he landed a series he could leave at short notice. Seems Larry was actively pursuing primetime at this point, as he landed the short lived CBS sitcom 'Phyl and Micky' in 79.
  23. Interesting. When there was talk of a new story for Sharon,I inwardly groaned thinking it would all happen at Crimson Lights. Glad GCAC is returning. The set issue still remains a problem. Seems they have certain number at a time and so everything happens there until the next set revision takes place. Noticed for Victoria/Nate's LA sexcapade and Elena's betrayal moments they used one off 2 wall bedroom sets which worked well. They need to be more creative in that way.
  24. Considering that The Colby's never established it's own identity, coming off as Dynasty lite, what do you posters think they should have done with a spin off to overcome those issues? At the time, with Dynasty riding high,ABC obviously wanted to replicate the mother show's success and thought more of the same was the way to go. But the casting, writing and timeslot didn't help. Should Jeff have been the character to move over? If not who? Or if it was Jeff should his family have been structured differently? You guys always have great ideas, so put your talents towards your take on a Dynasty spin off!
  25. As opposed to The Colbys.
