  1. Monday's show was a different, better Y&R. No kidnap victims, crime w/o police involvement, nonsensical business stories, Phyllis slinking about, monotone Cane etc The Holden story has been done to death and w/o Malcolm around it doesn't really amount to anything, but there were well acted scenes and actual believable emotions at play. Same with Sally and Billy. And Owen Renfroe's direction was solid. Some nice camera angles. And there seemed to be more extras around, or better use of the ones they had. Vivica is doing a good job, also.
  2. I watch in fits and starts. Watched those eps years ago. Currently watching the end of Leigh Taylor Young's Rachel. There seems to be a shift in the writing for the character. I thought she would be around longer as the Carson's surrogate daughter. But Rodney has moved back toward Betty, Rachel is going and Gena Rowlands and Dan Duryea are coming, both of whom I'm really looking forward to seeing.
  3. I believe it was based on a novel of the same title.
  4. Nov 82 Jorn Winther named exec producer for proposed NBC soap Always Is Not Forever.
  5. Re Calla/Jessie/Simon In addition to what's been mentioned I think the fact that they were more new characters being thrust on the viewer. It had just gotten to be too much. There were virtually no characters left from just a few years before. That is not a recipe for viewer loyalty. New characters have to be introduced slowly and attached to known favorites. There are exceptions of course but overall that is the most sensible course to take.

  7. The Tylers were Linc, who was not given children, Anne who was killed off and Chuck who was eventually written out. Anne's daughter and Chuck's son were both killed off. So it was poor planning on Agnes' part. I suppose Charles could have had an illegitimate child which wouldn't be a stretch considering his marriage to Phoebe. He could easily have had a one night stand or brief affair years ago.
  8. I could do w/o the crossovers. I'm not looking forward to the upcoming Y&R involvement. The two shows are very different beasts and at this point Y&R is in such a poor state that any association tarnishes BTG in my eyes. As for the mentions of ATWT etc take it or leave it. I'd rather BTG focuses on their own universe and addressing some issues. I was thinking about the Hayley story. Hayley is a paralegal right? A paralegal is a trained legal professional who assists lawyers and solicitors by performing substantive legal work, such as drafting documents, conducting legal research, and interviewing clients, but they cannot provide legal advice or act without supervision. So in between her other scams Hayley -is that her real name?- managed to get that training. Did that happen as a result of meeting Naomi? Was she parachuted into Bill's firm to help her out. How many years was she on the scene before she managed to nab Bill? It seemed like that was her goal the whole time, so it seems like a lot of trouble to go to. Surely there were other unattached men available?
  9. But if Ted and Nicole get back together, then what's the story? Happily married couple does not equal front burner story. Having both sister's marriages break up in the first year was a miscalculation. There would have been more mileage had Ted and Nicole stay together trying to rebuild the relationship with Carlton sneakily moving in , Kial in the mix, SPS being less cartoony in trying to lure Ted and even Shanice brought into play. So spend some time getting invested in Ted/Nicole or the other possibilities. Instead we had the Ted recast, the cheat reveal with sensible Nicole immediately separating from Ted. And it wasn't like Ted was currently cheating. Nicole should have been more measured in her reaction and then working through her feelings.
  10. @JAS0N47 Thanks for the clarification. I wasn't sure what NBC was airing so assumed it might be Ken Murray. Would love to see any other ratings if you have them.
  11. Aired Friday July 1 on ABC up against the movie rpt Hawaii on CBS and Sanford and Son/90 min Rockford Files rpts on NBC Another soaper in the cast was Susan Browning The story of three generations of firefighters of a New York Irish-American family.
  12. And of course, Paul could have returned with a child from some later relationship. Give the kid the Martin surname and have Paul be recurring if they didn't want a contract player in that age group. I don't think the recastings of Joey/Jake helped with that character and Kelsey never returned. It was a problem for all shows as the 80's and 90's wore on. There were either no younger generations to take over or TBTB refused to bring back younger family members. eg Charlie, Kelsey. Linc and Kelly should have announced she was pregnant on their way out in 1980 with that child mentioned along the way and coming back as a teen. Or Jeff Martin could have a child. The possibilities were there.
  13. Thanks @JAS0N47 Great to see a complete week. I've done night by night for context. Some notes. Primetime started at 7.30 then so an extra half hour of schedule to fill. Unlike say the 80's, networks did not make major changes throughout the season. Low rated shows would hang around all season and shows weren't moved around as much. Only a few 'second season' changes occurred. I guess because ratings weren't overnight and networks had to wait a couple of weeks for full info so it it might take months to get a clear picture of how a show was performing. Interesting to see that viewers didn't always hang around after a hit show eg Bonanza #2 but Wackiest Ship #73. And viewers didn't necessarily switch to another show in droves. They seem to just switch off. Being the end of the season the movies would be repeats and lesser titles so that might change week by week. Timeslot winners in bold. 14. The company's name is Summers Conglomerates (crap name BTW) which is Phyllis's maiden name. Love the way in Y&R business world you can simply change the name of a company within weeks. It would cost $$$ to rebrand everything and is it sound business practice to do that? Phyllis has yet to meet with one person in her business. There would have to be a meetings galore during the change but all Phyllis has done is pit up her portrait, bring Lauren on board and prance around GC. I know-it's only a soap.
  15. As for contracts, I would imagine everyone signed for 3 years, with the usual options. Clifton at 80 seems fine, but I'm sure Vernon could appear less if there was a need in the future.
  16. I'd like to see some Hayley flashbacks to show her friendship with Naomi and interactions with Bill.
  17. BTG is giving me Y&R vibes with characters constantly crossing paths at the same cafes. On the same day Naomi and Chelsea went to Uptown , then the ugly cafe before returning to Uptown. And the next episode Chelsea was back at Uptown...
  18. Sharon's spacey persona and SC's acting is just one of many of Y&R's problems. Along with devoting an entire episode to the amazing love story of two recurring players. Lauren, who has a department store empire to run decides to take on another demanding job and spends her first morning loved up in her office. The natural story would be Lauren facing up to the changes in retail and having to close branches, fire people etc. But no, everyone on Y&R is massively successful and if they're not for a while, it's no issue b/c they'll be back on top in an instant. Billy, whose Mom is seriously ill, cancels a trip to see her b/c his gf is under the weather. OK.
  19. First thing to be done would be a better haircut. I hate that floppy style that seems to be the go to for over 50 men.
  20. Mr & Mrs Ryan was an Aaron Spelling pilot. Sharon Stone & Robert Desiderio (Mr Judith Light) were the stars. A detective investigates crimes with the help of his socialite wife. My Two Loves the ABC Monday movie was groundbreaking for the time-A widowed mother's (Mariette Hartley) boyfriend (Barry Newman) and mother (Sada Thompson) are confused by her romance with another woman (Lynn Redgrave).

  22. Check the Soap Hoppers thread. Information on actors and their roles that can't be found elsewhere, Slick Jones is doing an amazing job.
  23. And there's that random chair facing the wall for some reason...that set is hideous. They should have given Joey a swanky office.
