All the Abbott kids took Dina's absence really hard but Dina's abandonment was particularly tough on Ashley because when Dina left Ashley was JUST old enough to really miss her AND because it nearly destroyed John. Brenda's second run had had a lot of problems. She was NOT happy about Jill's divorce from John nor was she thrilled about being part of an ensemble (both of which affected her on screen performance). Those two issues coupled with Y&R wanting Jill to be their version of Alexis Carrington effectively killed Jill as a character until Jess arrived.

Bill actually had big plans for Casey & Brock but BK & RL leaving Y&R caused major rewrites.

David has never been a good actor. He was just lucky to be cast in a couple of mega successful genre shows where his limited acting wasn't needed to carry the show. Wings never had the looks to be anything besides a character actor (and he's had a long career as just that).

The reason Brad was smug about Jack was because Jack never cared for him since the day they met.

1998 - 2000 was awesome for Y&R's set & costume design.

The only reason Daniel was SORASed was to throw Danny under the bus. Danny goes from fighting hard to keep his son to being a deadbeat dad? Then Cricket, Danny & Gina are made villains because they DIDN'T trash Giggly to her son? That's cup there with Paul & Jack whining about being wanting to be parents but not being fathers to the two children they both already had. Braeden was NOT happy about John Enos & MTS chemistry. He was the first pairing she had that was a real threat to Niktor. I'm surprised they never threw Brittany at Grambo to make it a love quad. It's not like Bobby & Brittany had much else to do until they were fired the next year. Victor really did love Diane (a fact which too often gets lost in the Niktor saga). She was different than any of Victor's other wives because she was an accomplished career woman who didn't apologize for her ambition which attracted Victor. Unfortunately Diane (and Ashley) went under the bus for Niktor. Braeden & Donnelly had a few really well written scenes after Nikki recovered where Victor sincerely tried to make amends with Diane but she was still hoping they would reconcile (which was a large part of her motivation during The Great Spermcapades). Braeden had a fairly sweet scene with Susan Walters Diane when he went on his apology tour before marrying Nikki (for the third time) but it didn't go anywhere.

Hating Danny & Cricket doesn't make up for the fact they were thrown under the bus for St. Giggly & an unnecessary Daniel recast. It's that same Giggly propping that made SHARON (whose child had just died) into the villain in Nick's affair. Danny being a neglectful parent was WAY out of character for him but anything to make Giggly look better. Grace being Cameron's co-conspirator made no sense & was only tacked on when the writers decided to keep Linden Ashby. The writing was so bad it ruined the character to the point where she couldn't explain her clearly explain her actions to Cassie when the girl she considered a daughter for over a year asked direct her questions. Katherine relapsing made no sense. Kay fought Jill over MUCH worse for MANY years (including abandoning her own home than be driven to drink) yet suddenly Jill fires Esther and does a little remodeling (both which Katherine approved of) & Katherine gets the urge to get drunk in front of all of her loved ones WHO DO NOTHING leaving her TO THROW HER OWN INTERVENTION until the ghosts of one of her ex husbands (who only knew her sober) & Jill's NOT DEAD son visit her to tell her not to drink? John & JVA's Gloria were a lot of fun together (because neither the show nor the character made excuses for Gloria). Victor left town just before Thanksgiving of 2004 (he & Nikki didn't go see Victoria until the spring of 2005). During the fall/winter of 2004 he mainly spent watching Nick fail as CEO of Newman & interfering with Nikki's relationship with Bobby (Brittany & Bobby left the ranch almost as soon as Braeden returned)

Braeden having a problem with characters hitting Victor had the biggest effect on Brad. Victor had made Aunt Jack his bitch many times over by then but Victor getting the best of a much younger Brad was too much. The Nikki/Bobby pairing was different because it arrived at a time when all of Victor's other ex-wives had been so badly damaged by bad writing that he didn't have a viable love interest on the canvas besides MTS. Nikki/Bobby also didn't provide easy opportunities for Victor to insert himself back into Nikki's life as he'd always done with all of Nikki's pairings. It's not a coincidence that a couple of years later Victor was in one relationship after another with younger women. In three years time he went from Sabrina to Ashley (AGAIN) to Meggie to Nikki (BRIEFLY) to Maura West's Diane to Sharon to Genevieve to Sharon (AGAIN) before FINALLY settling down with Nikki.

Braeden's main problem was he felt the Newman dynamic changing & aired his grievances with the writing in the press. This was also around the time that MTS returned from her contract issues & was pushing for stories away from Victor which is why Braeden threw a tantrum when John Enos (who had tons of chemistry with MTS) grew popular.

Braeden bitching to the press DID affect Victor's punishment story but it was because of Victor's interactions with Nick & Victoria the previous year. He HATED Victoria slapping him & Nick punching him and SWORE his own children would never strike him. There used to be a lot of JVA's Gloria on youtube but they were taken down a couple of years ago. In a few short months JVA created a complex character that was a fun addition to the Baldwin & Abbott families. Once the writers changed the character into a Judith Chapman Character after Judith Chapman arrived it was all downhill.

The first half of 2004 is terrible. Lily's RAPE being treated as consensual sex? MICHAEL telling Neil & Drucilla NOT to have an issue with his INSANE serial rapist brother STALKING their teenage daughter? Serial rapist Kevin almost getting his rape victim Lily almost raped AGAIN to stroke his own ego? Kevin SETTING HIMSELF ON FIRE? The Newman family acting like Nick was wrong for turning Victor in? Victor getting off almost scott free for breaking a million laws? Cricket & Danny going under the bus for Giggly Heffa? The annoying & unnecessary Daniel recast? Diane being written into a corner everywhere? The stupid orchid story? Brittany moping after being electrocuted by a stripper pole? Sharon & the disappearing corpse? Giggly Heffa throwing The Abbotts under the bus for VICTOR? Colleen deciding JT needed to be a pop star for 15 minutes? Lauren becoming a pod person to prop Kevin? Insane Ashley? Olivia dating ANOTHER of her sister's ex's? Katherine randomly falling off the wagon? Nick & Sharon PARACHUTING INTO A CORNFIELD? Brittany comparing her scars to Cousin Geri's cerebral palsy? Drucilla using the hair relaxer on her hair & it turning into an alopecia story? Brad standing around while Nikki & Ashley fight about who gets to tell Victor about Abby? The ONLY good things to come out of 2004, especially early 2004, were David Hedison's Arthur Hendricks, Joan Van Ark's Gloria & the return of Ashley Bashioum's Mackenzie.

Victor's last in character year was 2003. He was tolerable in 2005 only because of Cassie's death. Most of the reason Y&R seems solid for some until 2006/2007 is because up until that point Y&R was still using many of their classic sets & music cues but the writing had been horrible for a long time.

2003 was Y&R's last classic year. 2004 was horrible & 2005 was even worse.

I finally was able to catch up some more haha....I actually just finished the 9-1-2005 episode....(My 15th Birthday LOL) I thought the scenes of Gloria standing up to Tom were really good.....again I know she ate the show alive, but I always get reminded that Judith is an excellent actress even though all the stuff with Gloria basically flopped in the next couple of years, which is probably why Judith decided to focus more on her theatre stuff... I feel like a writer who was less conservative would have made Kevin and Scotty a couple...LOL I don't ever want to see Rikaart in a gay story though he is in real life, but I can't help but noticed he does have strange chemistry with Redford here...IMO I don't get why they had Sheila change wigs with the Jennifer disguise here, unless she started out as someone else...It's a shame the alliance with Tom made it impossible for Sheila to interact with more people during this return.... I guess this was one of Shemar's final cameos (before coming last year) as Malcolm.....Kind of weird but I never really feel like whenever I watch old episodes while Malcolm was still on, he was really on the show that much.....I know he was, but perhaps it's just lots of 1994-2002 2004-2005 episodes aren't on youtube besides a handful maybe...and he's only on one of my 94 and 95 episodes... Back when everyone thought Khalil was leaving for good...LOL I still can't believe they brought Lily back with a capable actress in Davetta, yet they was all blown apart cause somebody though Khalil was the "ideal" Lily and we have been stuck with her ever since....ughhh...they would have never paired Cane with LIly if Davetta was still there I bet... I didn't realize Devon and Sierra were that good friends.....and it was nice to see the original Yolanda before they F**ked it up with the horrible YoHARMONY retconned with Debi Morgan and Stephen Nichols.... I honestly could have seen maybe Malcolm getting with Yolanda here to help clean up her act.....if only they were more invested to these characters or Shemar didn't get his rise to primetime... Nick and Daniel scenes were ok....though I'm guessing we don't see much of Daniel until the following winter when DS Lily returns.. In less than three years Gloria went from an amusing recurring character to a primary lead. It was especially irritating because when Y&R wasn't using Jill to prop Gloria Y&R was using Gloria to marginalize Jill. Between Victor & Katherine suddenly deciding Gloria was a corporate powerhouse to Traci & Billy being marginalized so Y&R could throw Jack & Ashley under the bus Gloria didn't just eat the show alive. She consumed it whole. Jill & Lauren being sisters made absolutely no sense but it would've been a lot more tolerable if Jill had been in Gloria's place during the Abbott Face Cream wars. Y&R wasted Shemar (which was ridiculous because they promised him huge story to get him to return) which is why he left abruptly & stayed away for close to a decade. Devon & Sierra had great chemistry but were dropped so Devon (like Danny & Cricket earlier) could go under the bus for Daniel who was useless until Davetta was cast.

The funniest moment in the last few years of All My Children had to be Tad in the stairwell at Jesse & Angie's wedding reception.
