ALL: Soap Opera Background Music Thread
LOL I think that person may have been myself as I do remember posting the music link instead of the generic song that got played during their initial sex and then was replayed a couple weeks later when Billy tried to convince Phyllis something magical had happened lol. Some of Y&R’s music numbers are just so timeless that 11.3AM should have never been abandoned. I mean it was interesting to me that I discovered during last year’s classics that Y&R used both Liz’s theme and the Genoa City theme from 1973 well into 1994/1995. The last I heard “Love is Gone” was in June 2011 when Victor served Jack subpoena papers following the notorious ambulance scene.

That’s one of my favorite too lol when exactly did the show start using it? I first remember it being used clearly with Nick and Grace, Tony and Tricia, Diego and Sharon, Gary and Victoria etc lol but then it seems like it was used as early as 1993/94 for Cole and Victoria and Jill and Jed. The last time I recall hearing it was in 2009 with Sharon and Billy I believe.

DAYS: Behind the Scenes, Articles/Photos
Could have been. I noticed NBC had a habit of sharing for its three soaps at the time…I mean DePriest, Racina and Anderson were all writing for AW 87-88 lol although I am quite sure NBC forced that on P&G. I forgot about Yvette I liked her character too. Shane and Kimberly were definitely the most tortured supercouple of the 80’s. It’s a shame they couldn’t be given some normalcy and breathing room instead of paternity questions, evil twins, assassins, amnesia and what not happening every other month.

DAYS: Behind the Scenes, Articles/Photos
It wasn’t good. We got Diana shooting Roman/John, Marina Toscano, Cal Winters saga, Saul Taylor etc. Basically giving Patch a back from the dead wife, Shane getting amnesia, Kimberly thinking Shane was dead sleeping with the enemy, and RoJohn losing his love interest were all lazy plots to create some pedestrian drama. The ratings dropped and the quality dipped. Making Scott and Faith a super-couple didn’t work either. At least Marcus and Gail got some substantial storyline but Gail’s big secret she was ISA was also cheap and lazy to give them drama.

@yrfan1983 @kalbir I remember that scene originally and it was on YouTube several years back about Nikki’s confrontation with Christine which of course was much ado about nothing. Christine was already muddled deep into the Paul and Danny if anything her friendship with Victor and being kidnapped by Mari Jo gave her something different to do beside the get stalked by Phyllis that week lol. Victor and Nikki stories were weird during this period. Victor and Hope’s initial split and then reconcile was too much lol. Then we had silly crap like Victor being too late to stop Josh & Nikki and then Nikki and Hope being too late stop Victor & Diane from marrying and there was suspense & anguish with each one ceremony….completely unnecessary lol.

There were some scenes in early 1993 where Traci was uncharacteristically extremely NASTY to Lauren even making a mockery of Lauren’s situation with her son Scott to the point that Lauren and Brad briefly suspected Traci of being the one who was behind the puzzle blackmail lol. Traci just seemed out of character 1991-1996, and tbh Steve was a dolt, especially after Traci revealed she was divorcing him because he was lost in the head or something? Although I am surprised Steve and Traci never had kids themselves, they should’ve had at least two and had teen Colleen being jealous or something. But for whatever reason that just wasn’t the case. As for Ashley it was clear I think Bell loved the character that he kept on writing for her; but I think bad castings really hampered the storylines. Blade/Rick should have been played by a sexier and more dynamic actor. As for recasting Ashley a third time, nepotism should not have directed the casting. The castings for Adam Hunter and Kurt Costner were questionable too. As was casting Keith Dennison for Jill. I don’t know who Y&R’s casting director was at the time but a lot of the casting choices between 1994-98 were atrocious with a few exceptions like Shemar Moore, Sharon Case, Stafford, and Sandra Nelson etc.

Loving/The City Discussion Thread
Q: What does the Alden family tree look like? A: Kind of like this: ALDENS | _______________________________________ | | Tim Sullivan=Isabelle=Cabot Alden=? Tyler Alden=? | | | | | | Shana | | \_________________________ | | \ | Abril Domecq=Clay=Gwen Dane Hammond=Anne=Roger Forbes Cooper=Ally | __|______________ ___/ | | / | | | / | | / Trisha Curtis Rick=Stacey=Jack Lorna Tyler / =Trucker | | Tommy | | | Christopher Heather JJ Isabelle was married to Cabot (he's dead now...okay, he WAS dead, he's alive now). Cabot fathered Shana (Isabelle is not the mother). Isabelle bore Clay (Tim Sullivan, now also dead (really), is the father). She raised Clay as an Alden by marrying Cabot and not telling anyone (Cabot and Isabelle knew; Tim did not until he showed up in Corinth to reclaim his beloved "'Belle"; Clay only just found out as Tim was dying). Isabelle and Cabot produced Ann Alden (off the show now, but alive). Clay and Gwyneth produced Rick (now dead) out of wedlock and Gwyn gave him up for adoption (Clay did not know she was pregnant). Rick resurfaced later and caused a lot of problems, especially for Stacey. Heather is Rick and Stacey's child. Clay married Gwyn. They also produced Trisha (now presumed dead; we know she is off to Rome with Jeff Hartman) and Curtis. Cooper is the son of a brother of Cabot's. (Cooper's father was Cabot's brother; he calls Isabelle Aunt Isabelle). Both of Cooper's parents are dead (really, or not...we didn't see the bodies).

Days of Our Lives: November 2021 Discussion Thread
LOL. I don’t think his 2007-11 run was bad, just a lot of pointless things happened. I mean his son Pocket, Crystal Miller, Morgan Hollingsworth etc while finding the time to have affairs with Belle, Chloe, and Stephanie. Having Phillip be some type of Everyman with an edge just doesn’t work at all. This time has been disappointing for sure thought. He’s been one note psychotic since he was obsessed with running Xander off.

DAYS: Behind the Scenes, Articles/Photos
I actually liked Mike and Carrie together; corny cheesy crap like them having a magical flying bed(don’t ask!) or them literally riding on horseback into the sunset together as their last scenes in 1999 aside they made a cute couple and had the psycho Ali and her “Carrie Reed Barbie Doll” to contend with lol. Only downside was Mike was possibly old enough to be Carrie’s dad, considering the time he brought up his dead wife Margo to Carrie. Yikes. I think Critchlow and especially Michael T. Weiss were good actors and looked great, the problem was they de-aged Mike yet still referenced the 70’s stuff. Not sure why Mike was never brought back other than a couple returns (Alice’s funeral right?) it was shameful that Sheffer trashed the Mike character during Jeremy’s run in 2007 but typical Hogan MO. Always thought it was odd Chase’s Kim knew about the affair especially right before she left, and was totally understanding of it lol. Oh yes PP and WN did have a couple scenes together at the reception following Tom’s funeral back at the Horton house where Kimberly encouraged Roman to seek reconciliation with Marlena but he was unnerved.

Y&R - RIP Jerry Douglas (John Abbott)

All: Characters you thought would come back but never did
In contrast to the topic about characters staying on shows beyond expectations, were there certain characters we fully thought they would one day return either the original actor returning or a recast yet they still have yet to return? I know the biggest example that comes to mind for myself is Dru on Y&R. Fifteen years later, she is still MIA after falling off the cliff. Same with Macy on B&B yet no dice. Also I had figured Andy on ATWT would resurface in town at some point but that ended up being a definite no.

Y&R - RIP Jerry Douglas (John Abbott)
Wow I’m very sorry to hear this!!! ☹️☹️☹️ Jerry Douglas was definitely the father and wise sage figure of the show for so many years as John Abbott I had always figured that the Latham regime was too quick to kill off John like they did. John may have come off as too stern/rigid and complicated at times but Douglas always exuded such warmth with the Abbott family it was also hard not to like him. thanks for sharing @BoldRestless it’s too bad we never got a final John & Dina scene for some sort of true closure RIP Jerry.

Real life pregnancies that were (or were not) incorporated into the story.
To answer your questions: KKL- Yep she had a very traumatic 1996 and almost left the show. Sweeney-yes Dan Wells played Sami during maternity leave while Sami was disguised as Stan. Tylo- Two different kids; she pretty much had back to back pregnancies. Her first daughter was born in 1996 and was the source of the pregnancy firing at Melrose place. Her second daughter, born in early 98 was the pregnancy story used for Taylor being pregnant with Thomas. Davidson-Yes she really was pregnant in 2003 and had her son. Davidson’s maternity leave occurred for most of that summer and returned from leave just in time for the car accident happening. I remember Davidson commenting in SOD how silly it was having to still play pregnant after already giving birth.

Y&R November 2021 Discussion Thread
Sleeps as always, especially when it comes to Y&R these days lol. Adam vs. Billy & Lily: Boring! With Ashland & Victoria now married the whole Gaines story is a non-story. It reminds me of that half assed retcon story about Adam killing Hope’s abuse last year that didn’t make any sense. Like that story, I don’t see anything of consequence out of this story at all. Chance is dead?: Yawn. It would be interesting if everyone found out Abby impulsively left to look for Chance herself, but no Abby is still written as the princess who must be locked up in the medieval castle. Yikes. At least she hasn’t had an affair with a returned Ronan who claimed he was looking for Chance. Noah’s secret: Potential is there but then again JG is the same HW who gave us Noah & Adrianna…yuck! Sad. At least Nina Is back and at least Nikki is in on some of the Newman schemes. I guess the old saying about a broken clock being right twice a day still rings true with Y&R. The rest of the show is just bland and uninspiring.😵💫🤢😵💫🤢 Oh @Paul Raven I had to laugh when I saw a couple April 2020 Eps air on Pluto TV over the weekend. I counter 7 extras at Crimson Lights and 5 extras at Society before they stopped for COVID 🤣

News & Gossip from the mid-1980s per The Soaps of Yesterday
After reading Lincoln’s comments about her younger son Justin being left with a maid “knowing what to do to fend for himself…” Yikes knowing that and then reading her interview sounds like a nasty storm was brewing in progress.

Look into the past - 1975
“Discovering her husband Justin was unfaithful, Jackie Marler led him to believe she aborted her pregnancy and divorced him to punish him. Only Jackie knew she gave up her son for adoption. - Jetsetter, Alan Spalding had come to Springfield for medical consultation. He and his wife Elizabeth were having marital problems, which caused Jackie to smile. She was elated to get a call from Elizabeth and had insisted she and her eight year old son Phillip stay with her, using this time to monopolize Phillip, the son she gave up to the Spaldings. She couldn’t resist the opportunity to introduce Phillip to Justin at Mike's party. It was a tender momemt when Jackie saw Justin warm up to his own son. Elizabeth was uneasy with Alan’s presence after their separation. And so it begins. I was interested to read how the Spauldings come on this as GL expanded to an hour. Weren’t they introduced in the first hour long episode?

All : Storyline risks that didn't pay off.
Nope! Rick and Maya had an off-screen divorce in 2018 which Maya announced when she came back for the holidays. Maya stayed around in the background for a few months after that but was gone by the end of Spring 2019 without explanation. In fact the entire Avant family has now been wiped from existence probably never to return except for possibly Lizzie Forrester one day. Not to mention it was pretty unbelievable the mousy Vicki Harper was the one who ordered Carolyn’s execution.

Bold & Beautiful - October 2021 Episode Counts
LOL my thoughts exactly. Wyatt and Flo haven’t even had any story time ever since that ridiculous Y&R crossover back in January what’s the point of them anymore?

Days of Our Lives: November 2021 Discussion Thread
I forgot how much I enjoyed Blake Berris as Nick. I still have fond memories of the young geek getting drunk and then sleeping with Billie lol. Even though the China Lee story was ridiculous it was also fun. I didn’t care for Nick’s darker turn starting with his obsession with Melanie although Berris did a great job overall. Example of losing talent and interesting character all just for shock value.

I seem to recall Bergman’s Emmy wins also provided a deep source of contention between the two actors. I can’t imagine that sit too well with EB, who had been nominated a couple times in the 80’s to see someone on the show steal his thunder. As for PB he did mention the work culture at Y&R was so different for him than at AMC it took some time to adjust to it.
