The movie was The Cradle Will Fall. What a shitty thing to do. I'm not Elvera's biggest fan, but she deserved better than that. I'm not sure I disagree with not bringing back John for the 60th. Truth be told, one-off type returns annoy me. For example, while Adam Thorpe returned for Blake's wedding, it was to interact mostly with characters he'd never interacted with. Kelly didn't have a family base to interact with.

Him and Gil Rogers. I guess a lot of actors moved on to other roles, but why Rusty (who's a fairly insignificant blip of a character) gets back a lot...*shrugs* I wonder if they even asked Rebecca Hollen for other events. Sigh--I'd have really been sad at the end if Vanessa had been stuck with that jerk **** for soap opera ever after.

LOL...I remember Terrell Anthony (I think) said once he was demoted to the "children's table" at one of his cameos. I mostly remember Vanessa's there because she hustles away from the party to talk to Ed. If Dinah hadn't been recast or JvD had stayed, we probably wouldn't have seen Vanessa at anything other than an obligatory appearance at weddings.

Morgan would've been an excellent candidate for giving Josh a long lost child. Although God knows what later regimes would've done with her character ...probably had Amanda selling her sister's services, no doubt. Kelly and Reva? There would have a house full of mirrors. Lord knows who'd spend more time in front of them, checking themselves out. Lol. I never heard bushes. I heard public restrooms and cars sometimes.

The Lemays are recurring, and I can't even tell you the wife's name. I think they even changed the husband's name to Jim when they brought him to town in '99. Oops, my bad. I knew that. I believe Jerry tells a story about Zas mooning the cast during one of the courtroom scenes. It sounds funny, but I can imagine that kind of attitude wouldn't endear anyone to her.

Bev seems to be the type that didn't suffer fools. I'm surprised she even gave SOD the interview. By this time, she had earned the right to not sugar coat anything. She respected people as much as they respected her, and she'd felt disrespected by Phelps. There's an interview of her from Canadian TV on utube that's very interesting. (AW was huge in Canada, and this was around the time Texas! started or just after she left...I forget.)

A--it's nice to hear a reference to Hamp. B--Jim and Dylan had met. When Dylan came to town and found out Harley had given birth, he roped his girlfriend Sam into babysitting for Susan/Daisy so they could spend time with the little girl. The Lemays threw a fit when they found out. A-M kidnapped Susan/Daisy hoping run away with her and Harley, and then Dylan/Sam went on the run to avoid the police, who thought Dylan had done it. It was a major story.

Yes, the takeover is starting the fall of '87, as Reva works her way into Alan's orbit, setting Vanessa's teeth on edge and pissing off Alex. Phillip decides to be a "good little Spaulding" and take his lumps by working in Spaulding's publicity department. Alan hires Reva, but Vanessa is trying to get her out--Reva's contract needs to be approved by the board. Vanessa is sure Alex and Phillip with vote with her--but they end up voting with Alan to lull him into thinking he's secure in the chair. Alan and Vanessa's engagement almost puts a roadblock up (as Henry/Vanessa would vote as a block and keep Alan in control) but Van dumps Alan, and Henry gets Van to sign over her proxy to him. Henry knows Alan's bs'ing him about the broken engagement (telling him they will plan a wedding when Van is back) and Alex has alerted HB to the fact Alan is kissing Reva while engaged to Van. (HB of course, seems more concerned about "poor little Reva" who's knowingly kissing up Alan than Vanessa, who appears to be in the dark about all that....but I digress...) There's not a lot up in the vault from Jan-Feb-March '88, when the plan is coming together. There's episodes up around Phillip actually pulling it off though. I think the strike was from March to August, iirc.

I'm not even positive Billy was ever Josh's best man at any of his weddings. Even the big Cross Creek one. re: Alan---or even some skunk lawyer. I knew about the tape Alex had that blackmailed Alan out...I didn't realize there was such a sloppy explanation of what happened to it. Couldn't Alan at least have stolen it back? Yes, '86 is a bad year. The year of the summer camp. SMH.

I must say--I enjoyed the softer side of Kat as she talked with Tomas (super UGH) about Anita and living with "the grans".

I actually wish more of that story were up. Phillip's scheme to get Alan out of the company involved setting up a fake merger with Lewis and that fake emerald mine. The fake merger ends up scuttling the HB/Alex romance (well, no biggie), but I don't quite get the mechanics of it. Or how Alan had kicked both Phillip and Alex out on his '86 return.

And the "lone wolf" type of characters like Alan and Roger (and to an extent, Reva) you understand not having that type of friendship. But when you get to a character like Josh (who had been on the show forever) and you can only really think of one person (outside of Billy) who he really called "friend" in the twenty-ish years on screen, it just seems weird. (and that was Will, who was setting him up). (Okay, I'd think of Vanessa, but that's me.) It's not that there weren't friendships shown, it just seems like the majority of them were either very short term, or simply set ups for story purposes.
