  1. I'm not sure when the Yacht Club blew up---but yeah, Sam and Kirk just disappeared off a dock, never to be heard from again.
  2. Maybe Marland's GL wasn't as iconic as we fondly remember it to be. But he set the bar high, and "lackluster" seems a little harsh.
  3. Kirk was a devilish addition to the canvas. But as DM tended to do, Kirk lost his edge in the uber serious marriage to Ellie. I didn't really like his romance with Samantha, but he always managed to bring humor to the table. I think he may have also been involved with Bill and Lizzie, but that's a bit foggy.
  4. I believe that's who @alwaysAMC was referencing. His name is Tom Wiggin. Ironically, he was heavily involved with Lisa Brown's Iva for a while. And he showed up toward the end of GL again, as a businessman who I think swindled either Olivia or Natalia. And yeah....Potter seemed to be doing damage control. But while I've said "WTF fires Jane Elliot?", maybe I understand his view a little more----Carrie had already killed two people. She was happily married to Ross, but had cheated on him as Carrie2. I'm not sure she could've really remained viable in Springfield, even with Marland writing her.
  5. Yep. Whether or not they're currently in an important story had to play a huge part. When Michael David Morrison died, they recast Caleb out of necessity. Although Graham Winton never achieved the prominence as Caleb Snyder and was eventually written out. But some performers just can't be replaced. B&B's Darlene Conley, for instance. And I don't think GL viewers would've been receptive to replacing either Henry or HB after Bill Roerick's or Larry Gates' deaths.
  6. I wonder how the Dobsons worked...if Potter felt he could approach one of them better than the other when he wasn't happy.
  7. lol...nope. Stuff like that bothers me. I can't believe someone in the control booth didn't call down and have someone deal with it.
  8. Other than Danny, (and later Miriam Colon as Granny Santos) the casting of the Santos' clan was underwhelming. Saundra Santiago wasn't compelling enough to be the new "Big Bad" in Springfield. All she lacked was a mustache to twirl. I wouldn't doubt that Long's lack of experience necessitated a co-hw, at least at the beginning. A "decentralized" HW is inexplicable, but I do credit GL's writing core with keeping the show going through the upheaval of the '80s. I must admit, I'm a little amused by PFS' attitude. What did she expect? Actors to just drop their plans to come in and reshoot whatever she deemed needed fixing?
  9. I have to ask....what is with the random gray dot on JV's shoulder? Some mark wardrobe forgot to remove?
  10. Re: Michelle---right? Josh and Reva couldn't have picked that girl out of a line up. They were mostly "dead" or out of town while Michelle was growing up. Josh and Reva weren't palling around with the Bauers. (unless there's some medical crisis, they rarely crossed paths.) Other than knowing they were Bill's aunt and uncle, Michelle didn't know them from Adam. Ugh---that kid. AWFUL. I suppose it wouldn't have mattered who was in the role, Bill was simply the patsy of the day for the big bad Ben and Carmen (RME) ....but that kid was a huge casting mistake. I'm not certain, but I assume The Journal just kind of ceased being mentioned. I don't think any regular character ever worked there again.
  11. And calling Roger complex, layered, nuanced, etc. , would've been more palatable to me. Save "charming" for Mickey Rooney/Judy Garland movies. I know I'm splitting hairs (whether they mean Zas is charming in bringing out the complexity of Roger) And I know what's ahead for Roger, where the columnist probably didn't. (But he had just also raped Rita.) It just hits different nearly 50 years later.
  12. I'm sure the writers thought they were smart in hooking the Michelle/Danny and Reva stories together. And yes, you have to have new blood on shows. But the Santos overstayed their welcome by about three years (or more).
  13. I really do hate when shows "island" characters out of town for months (in this case literally.) It's always a mistake. And I hate the Santos clan nearly as much as I hated San Cristobel. Crime families have very short shelf lives. Or should have.
  14. Paul Wesley was also in a little thing called The Vampire Diaries. And yet another instance where **** can go [!@#$%^&*] himself. Bill doesn't need him to "help"---he's got his parents. Both of whom could chew up and spit out any member of the Santos clan.
  15. As a P&G girl, I love these! Dr Bob has always been an overlooked treasure. And GL's Katie was charming. Although I cringe at calling Roger a "charming" villain. Glowing praise for Zas always---but there had to be a better word than "charming". In two months, he rapes Holly. Paul---any chance on the follow up worst awards?
  16. That interview is a fun read! It's too bad Rick's Jackson roots were completely lost.
  17. I think there's also an episode before Morgan and Kelly's wedding in '81 where Ed and Kelly were in the pool. It must have been a slow gossip week for that columnist.
  18. It's not other shows were stacked with matinee idols running around in swimming trunks. Other than maybe Y&R.
  19. I was gonna say, Mart wasn't Don, but he was plenty appealing on that "real guy" kinda way. Especially for the time. Unlike some dudes with porn 'staches.

  21. This is news to me! I don't think I've ever heard Ben and Evie got a remote!
  22. True. I could only think of three--Dinah, Dylan and Jonathan. There must've been more? Geez--John Dixon had two retcon children himself. Even Bob Hughes had a retcon kid. (Ooops, just remembered Hilary Bauer. I'm not sure Quint counts, as Henry didn't really have that deep history with the show at that point.) Well, nothing ever sidelined Reva, but some of her crappy actions (namely keeping the fact she knew Sarah was alive and allowed Lizzie to think she had died) for Jon, didn't endear Reva to me.
  23. Retcon children are usually awkward, and on the whole Dinah works out better than most retcon GL children (in fact, I can't really think of one GL surprise child that worked out better.) I wonder if Long would've committed to Holly/Ross/Vanessa triangle in '89, if Jordan Clarke hadn't come back. When Vanessa left, Long did give Van/Ross a sort of wistful goodbye.
  24. Ugh---a lot of the Dinah story doesn't ring true. But the Van/Ross break up is plot-plot-plot to sell Alan and Reva. RME.
  25. Chelsea---in contention with **** for worst Reardon EVER. RME. If Sheri Anderson's the end of '86, beginning '87, she's also the weird Josh return (where he's running from some organization) and the quick Josh/Reva reunion that fell flat.
