Biden declares the ERA (28th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution) to be ratified! https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2025/01/17/statement-from-president-joe-biden-on-the-equal-rights-amendment/ January 17, 2025 Statement from President Joe Biden on the Equal Rights Amendment I have supported the Equal Rights Amendment for more than 50 years, and I have long been clear that no one should be discriminated against based on their sex. We, as a nation, must affirm and protect women’s full equality once and for all. On January 27, 2020, the Commonwealth of Virginia became the 38th state to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment. The American Bar Association (ABA) has recognized that the Equal Rights Amendment has cleared all necessary hurdles to be formally added to the Constitution as the 28th Amendment. I agree with the ABA and with leading legal constitutional scholars that the Equal Rights Amendment has become part of our Constitution. It is long past time to recognize the will of the American people. In keeping with my oath and duty to Constitution and country, I affirm what I believe and what three-fourths of the states have ratified: the 28th Amendment is the law of the land, guaranteeing all Americans equal rights and protections under the law regardless of their sex. ###

  6. Same. I feel that Taggert should still be Trina's father of the heart, and I don't care about the biology or the retconned canon. Yeah, as Tracy would say "I don't care."
  7. This is so true. One of the things I liked about This is Us, was that the homes of each character felt unique. I don't pay much attention to sets at all, but even I noticed that.
  8. TJ was introduced as the biological son of Curtis' Ashford's late brother Tommy, both biologically and legally, and he was named after Tommy. TJ was later revealed/retconned to be Shawn Butler's biological son. He's still legally an Ashford. Trina had been stated to be Marcus Taggert's daughter and they had that relationship emotionally as well. Trina was later retconned to be Curtis's biological daughter. She goes by the surname Robinson, after her mother Portia Robinson. TJ and Trina at various times have been said to be offspring of the brothers Tommy and Curtis, but not at same time. So not biological cousins at the same time. I guess they consider themselves now to informally be cousins, and they both now think of Stella as their great-aunt. (Stella being the sister of Tommy and Curtis' mother)

NBC video https://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/california-wildfires/studio-city-home-fire/3599235/ Here's a screenshot of the NBC video, from Alan Locher's facebook And then in the comments to that facebook post, someone confirmed that the property records show that that the address is connected to a company that is connected to Tom Eplin, which Alan Locher acknowledged in reply to that comment. 13. I agree with this. I remember that the idea got popularized with "Boston Strong" after the Boston Marathon bombing. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boston_Strong which in some ways, was illogical, since the marathon runners were from all over the world. I briefly lived in the Boston area long ago... I live far far away now. But when I first heard "Boston Strong", it didn't surprise me... it fits with part of the psyche of that city that cannot be explained logically, it just fits the working class locals. I do remember the sweatshirt designers mentioned in the wikipedia article. I think the locals felt that the city had been attacked so they wanted to close ranks, claim strength, etc. --- Nevertheless the marathon runners and family members watching who were injured, they experienced a more compassionate type of Boston Strong energy -- all the medical facilities that gave them whatever care could be given, and all the fundraisers to help.

  15. I grew up on 1969-1976 GH - so the gritty Monica who had affairs and strived for what she wanted -- as well as being a cardiac surgeon -- was the only Monica I knew. I was was away from soaps for a while and was surprised to learn that she'd become thought of as a matriarch.
  16. I don't know who did the breakdown/outline for 14999. When #15000 was being filmed in April 2024, Michael Fairman was on set, and Ron told him that things were being rewritten up to the morning of filming: https://michaelfairmantv.com/ron-carlivati-interview-days-of-our-lives-15000th-episode-dougs-funeral/2024/04/13/ We later learned that episodes #15000 and 15001 were originally one episode as 15000, but split into two as material was added or rearranged, and this was confirmed by @JAS0N47 https://www.jason47.com/days/episodeguide2024.html Jamey Giddens tweeted that he did the breakdown for both airdates (Dec. 2 and Dec. 3) https://x.com/Jamey_Giddens/status/1863648881776476599

  18. These were published in January 2025 but could be timeless: Use this info to prepare yourself for current urgent fires, or for the next climate emergency in your region (it's written for California fires but could be adapted for whatever/wherever). How to pack a "go-bag". What do do when evacuating. Etc. ----- Cheat sheet: Your very short guide to getting packed up right now to evacuate https://laist.com/news/climate-environment/fire-go-bag-cheat-sheet Go-Bag basics Three-day supply of non-perishable food and three gallons of water per person Map marked with at least two evacuation routes Prescriptions or special medications Change of clothing Extra eyeglasses or contact lenses An extra set of car keys, credit cards, cash or traveler's checks First aid kit Flashlight Battery-powered radio and extra batteries Sanitation supplies Copies of important documents (birth certificates, passports, etc.) Pet food and water Evaluate your risks Want to take a closer look at some of your potential risks? First Street Foundation, a nonprofit research group, has a new tool called Risk Factor: https://firststreet.org/?from=riskfactor.com Input your address for data about the risk for fire and flooding in your area. (The website notes, however, that this should not be relied upon for in-the-moment details about "active events.") Sign up for local alerts Sign up for local alerts. They’re a reliable clearinghouse for up-to-date news, and early warnings. (research the links for your region) Be familiar with your reliable local news sources (we do our best here at LAist.com and LAist 89.3 to stay on top of any Southern California fires that lead to evacuations.) Bookmark Fire.CA.Gov/Incidents, which gives you an at-a-glance look at blazes in progress. This is especially important if you plan on traveling. ReadyForWildfire.org is your friend to get everything prepped. It guides you through the three critical stages: READY (go bag prepped), SET (the ability to leave at a moment’s notice), GO (get out of there as soon as authorities give the word.) It’s a great starting place on how to prepare your home and family. Preparing to evacuate Ideally you already have an evacuation plan in place. Ready for Wildfire suggests: “Make sure you know your community’s emergency response plan and have a plan on where to go when it is time to evacuate, and best routes for leaving your location.” Experts suggest working closely with neighbors. Be the one who sets up a neighborhood network. Exchange numbers with neighbors, and create a texting loop, to keep each other informed and lend help if necessary. If you work far from home, consider striking up an agreement with a trusted neighbor to evacuate your teenager or pet on your behalf if needed. Next up? Get in the habit of keeping your gas tank nearly full, advises the Red Cross. Sure, it’s a hassle to stop for gas every other day or so. But, in case of an emergency, you'll be able to drive your family hundreds of miles from danger, without stopping for gas. Evacuating also means having a “go bag” together for every member of the family, pets included. Designate a corner of a closet or garage for all the gear you’re setting aside, zipped up and ready to be snatched up. If wildfires are on the horizon, you can even pack up your vehicle in advance, and be at the ready to leave. When those basics are done, it’s time to level up: Start thinking about the important paperwork you might need, documents that would be hard to replace. Insurance documents. Bank account numbers. Photos. Passports. The title to your car. The deed to your house. Birth certificates. Consider making copies of all these items and saving them to a USB drive — and giving them to a trusted relative on the other side of the country. Then put that drive in the bottom of your go bag. Keep the real copies someplace safe where you could hopefully also grab them and go — but the USB drive will help you replace those valuables if that is not possible. Advance planning should ideally include taking a video of everything in your home. Open drawers, closets and everything else. All that said, if danger is within striking distance, just take your loved ones and go. Sure, it would be heartbreaking to lose original photos or a PITA to replace passports and other important paperwork, but none of that really matters in the face of fire. ------------------------------------ Cheat sheet: A short guide to giving your home a fighting chance if you need to evacuate (what to do on the inside and outside before you leave) https://laist.com/news/climate-environment/short-guide-how-to-leave-your-house-if-you-evacuate ------------------------------------------ Cheat sheet: Your very short guide to driving in high winds and fire danger https://laist.com/news/transportation/fire-high-wind-driving-cheat-sheet ------------------------- How to be prepared in case of future electric or natural gas outages or in case of whatever emergencies: from Southern California Edison: https://www.sce.com/outage-center/preparing-for-outages supplies to have on hand, from "Ready L.A.
