Snoop Dog just performed at a Trump pre-inauguration party event. What? Yes he did. He'll do whatever for money/attention, apparently. Nelly is slated to perform at one of the inaugural balls.

Y&R: January 2025 Discussion Thread
Eileen just posted an IG video of her husband walking around the outside patio or backyard/garden walkway (?) at their home (the point of the video is that he says he is recovering from hip surgery and is walking okay) and the visible areas look fine, so I think the fire didn't affect their property?. https://www.instagram.com/p/DE76d0HSPnI/

Just NO to this: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/jan/17/trump-inauguration-guest-list The Village People, whose 1978 hit YMCA is a staple of Trump rallies and Mar-a-Lago gatherings, to perform at two inaugural events. The band’s lead singer, Victor Willis, issued an almost apologetic explanation, saying its members would perform despite having supported Harris’s presidential bid. “We believe that music is to be performed without regard to politics,” he wrote on Facebook. “Our song YMCA is a global anthem that hopefully helps bring the country together after a tumultuous and divided campaign where our preferred candidate lost.”

January 2025: Fearing raids, barred from aid: Los Angeles immigrants doubly vulnerable amid wildfires. Non-profits rush to assist undocumented immigrants who face deportation threat on top of displacement and job loss. In recent years, mega-fires – as well as other extreme weather catastrophes, including atmospheric river storms and intense heatwaves – have repeatedly upended the lives of immigrant workers across the state. In the wake of disasters, undocumented immigrants are especially vulnerable, and largely ineligible for federal disaster aid. Many have lost work as well as their homes – and they are increasingly afraid that seeking help will attract the scrutiny of immigration authorities. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/jan/17/la-fires-immigrants-undocumented-aid

Soap Hoppers: The Soap Actors And Roles Thread
I saw that @Chris B had posted that pilot of Reed Diamond on the primetime soaps thread (Link to post) so then I followed @DRW50's suggestion to check out Reed's social media, so I started scanning Reed's IG -- and saw that he has this Homicide podcast, with descriptions in each IG post, and one mentioned soaps, so that's how I found this. Thank you! I haven't even read all the descriptions yet, nor have I watched any other episodes of the podcast. Just found this one and wanted to post it right away. I didn't listen to the entire episode, so there may be nuggets that I missed. You could listen to the other episodes on that Homicide podcast youtube channel for more stories from Reed Diamond and Kyle Secor. That particular conversation was inspired by Matthew Cowles's appearance on that episode of Homicide. If other soap actors appeared on other Homicide episodes, perhaps they might comment on that?

Autumn 2024: "Homicide: Life on the Street" now has all seasons plus the movie up on Peacock. Reed Diamond and Kyle Secor are doing a rewatch podcast. It's up on podcast platforms plus a youtube channel. I just discovered this. In their October 2024 podcast about Season 1, episode 2 of Homicide: Life on the Street: In the last few minutes of this podcast, they talk about appearing on AMC and GH: At around 1:04:42: Reed talks about Matthew Cowles (AMC's Billy Clyde Tuggle) appearing on Homicide Season 1, episode 2. He talks about Cowles' character on Homicide and also about AMC, and what a great character actor Cowles was, on AMC, in other roles elsewhere, and on Homicide; and how Cowles may have improvised something that got past the NBC censors for that Homicide episode. He really admired Cowles as an actor. (I found some pics of Matthew Cowles on Homicide, here: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0604330/characters/nm0184804?ref_=tt_mv_close#photos) At 1:06:00, Reed talks about watching GH and then AMC as a teen, he said he started watching GH so he could have something to speak with teen girls about, and then he got hooked on watching AMC for his own enjoyment. He was living in New York, he was starstruck that AMC was taping in New York with Ruth Warrick of Citizen Kane! Reed went to Juilliard with Andre Braugher. Reed was about to move to Los Angeles, but got a role in a play in NYC.... and then his agent called him with a short stint on AMC -- and that short AMC gig paid more than the entire run of the play, so he did AMC instead, which funded his move to Los Angeles. Reed said how excited he was, because he was brought into AMC for wedding episodes, so the whole AMC cast was there. Reed played the brother of Genie Francis' character Ceara. He was starstruck and appreciative; but he says how much he preferred the amazing dialogue writing for Homicide. He said that soap dialogue is well, saying the same thing over and over 79 different ways. He also said that AMC or any soap, is the hardest job. Kyle Secor then says that Reed's story about working with Genie Francis on AMC reminded him of something: At around 1:08:50, Kyle Secor talks about appearing on GH, with Elizabeth Taylor and Luke and Laura. (one episode) Kyle says he played a guard in an underground cavern wearing something that looked like a cross between an army uniform and a McDonalds uniform -- fatigues that were lined with bright yellow things around the bottom hems and yellow things down the sides, and they carried around guns. Kyle talks about being starstruck about Elizabeth Taylor. Something about saving her character (Helena) from a dire situation. Kyle says that he hung out with Tony Geary, they went to play readings together and took hip-hop dance classes together. (yes he and Geary went to hiphop dance classes together). Kyle says that he had suggested to the person in charge of Homicide that Kyle's Homicide character be written as a hiphop dance instructor on the side, but Homicide didn't do that. Reed is starstruck listening to Kyle's story about working with Elizabeth Taylor and Luke and Laura on GH. Reed remembered that Elizabeth Taylor had campaigned to be on GH. This is the podcast episode. As I said, the soap stuff is in the last few minutes of it. In the comments to the youtube, someone posted a clip of Reed and Genie on AMC, and the podcasters replied in the comments with thanks- The Climate Thread

Noted that the ordinary people (and their parents/grandparents) bought their homes in Pacific Palisades long ago, decades before the neighborhoods became rated for the weathy residents, so now everything costs exponentially more.- GH: Classic Thread

There have been tons of news stories about celebrities who evacuated or lost homes in Pacific Palisades and Malibu-- in the January 2025 Palisades Fire. Personally, I intentionally chose to *not* post about celebrities on this CLIMATE thread. Instead, the focus of my posts on pages 3 and 4 of this Climate thread has been about how weather/climate disasters affect the ordinary person and how it affects Nature -- environmentally, politically, emotionally, and economically. This article is about the community of Pacific Palisades. Although yes some wealthy celebrities lived there, there are plenty of ordinary people who live/lived there. Many ordinary people lost their homes in the Palisades fire, and will not be able to afford to rebuild. This article is about that: https://laist.com/news/climate-environment/pacific-palisades-not-wealthy-fire- The Climate Thread

I had never heard of the actress Sandra Ferguson who was mentioned on previous page and above, so I had to google her. I never watched Another World, ever, so the name was unfamiliar to me. I see that she was a temporary Felicia on GH? Interesting! I don't think I ever saw anyone play Felicia except for Kristina W.- Y&R: Old Articles
