  1. --------------------------------------------- https://www.science.org/content/article/trump-hits-nih-devastating-freezes-meetings-travel-communications-and-hiring/ Trump has ordered the National Institutes of Health to cancel their review panels on cancer research. “The impact of [Trump’s] collective executive orders appears devastating,” one senior NIH employee says. --------------------------------------------- https://www.cnn.com/2025/01/21/health/hhs-cdc-fda-trump-pause-communication/index.html Trump is now ordering health agencies to stop warning Americans about bird flu and to halt publication of scientific reports. This comes as egg prices are expected to skyrocket in the coming days. ---------------------------------------------
  2. Also with RFK Jr. as the new head of the Dept. of Health ... He's a known anti-vaxxer. So between RFK Jr and Trump, we simply won't get reliable information from the CDC and NIH anymore. They apparently don't care if everyone dies in the next pandemic, because there will be no agencies to communicate anything reliable. Also Trump is ordering the USA to no longer fund the WHO (World Health Organization). WHO is international and not run by the USA but it received money from the USA. WHO would be one of the only agencies left to properly inform Americans of health crises, but it will be drastically defunded. Well I guess Americans can turn to agencies in other countries for information
  3. During Trump's prior term as president, he dismantled the website of the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) -- and the info was saved *only* because conscientious people saved the data when they saw what was happening. The ecological data was restored to the EPA website when Biden became president. In the past two days, Trump has already issued a freeze on communications from the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) and the NIH (National Institutes of Health), so I'm sure the CDC website is next.
  4. That article quotes the website of the CDC (US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), specifically the CDC Division of Adolescent and School Health, for definitions of sex and gender. However, sadly, Trump is in process of dismantling the CDC, and I think a lot of that website will disappear or be drastically changed.

Originally posted as a twitter thread July 8, 2020 by ‪iamragesparkle (http://www.michaelbtager.com) Reposted as bluesky thread November 21, 2024 by ‪iamragesparkle.bsky.social‬ The bluesky thread starts here: https://bsky.app/profile/iamragesparkle.bsky.social/post/3lbidcyttps2b I was at a sh!tty crustpunk bar once getting an after-work beer. One of those sh!tholes where the bartenders clearly hate you. So the bartender and I were ignoring one another when someone sits next to me and he immediately says, "no. get out." ‪And the dude next to me says, "hey i'm not doing anything, i'm a paying customer." and the bartender reaches under the counter for a bat or something and says, "out. now." and the dude leaves, kind of yelling. And he was dressed in a punk uniform, I noticed ‪Anyway, I asked what that was about and the bartender was like, "you didn't see his vest but it was all nazi sh!t. Iron crosses and stuff. You get to recognize them." And i was like, ohok and he continues. ‪"you have to nip it in the bud immediately. These guys come in and it's always a nice, polite one. And you serve them because you don't want to cause a scene. And then they become a regular and after awhile they bring a friend. And that dude is cool too." ‪And then THEY bring friends and the friends bring friends and they stop being cool and then you realize, oh sh!t, this is a Nazi bar now. And it's too late because they're entrenched and if you try to kick them out, they cause a PROBLEM. So you have to shut them down. ‪And i was like, 'oh damn.' and he said "yeah, you have to ignore their reasonable arguments because their end goal is to be terrible, awful people." And then he went back to ignoring me. But I haven't forgotten that at all.
  9. Thank you for posting this, from the Cathedral's youtube channel. She's great, it's in full, and we get to just look at her. (On the CSPAN version, it mostly focused on Trump's face. This cathedral version doesn't show him at all.)

  11. More than a dozen religious leaders spoke during the interfaith service, including those from Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist and Hindu traditions. ------------ Bishop Budde is known for being very upset in 2020 after Trump staged an appearance in front of St. John’s Episcopal Church, which is near the White House, when he held up a Bible after the area had been cleared of peaceful protesters.
  12. Mariann Edgar Budde, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington DC. She serves as spiritual leader for 86 Episcopal congregations and ten Episcopal schools in the District of Columbia and four Maryland counties. The first woman elected to this position, she also serves as the chair of the Protestant Episcopal Cathedral Foundation, which oversees the ministries of the Washington National Cathedral and Cathedral schools. -- Reposting to add the transcript: Let me make one final plea, Mr. President. Millions have put their trust in you. And as you told the nation yesterday, you have felt the providential hand of a loving God. In the name of our God, I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country. We're scared now. There are gay, lesbian, and transgender children in Democratic, Republican, and Independent families. Some who fear for their lives. And the people – the people who pick our crops, and clean our office buildings who labor in poultry farms and meatpacking plants, who wash the dishes after we eat in restaurants and work the night shifts in hospitals -- they may not be citizens, or have the proper documentation. But the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals. They pay taxes and are good neighbors. They are faithful members of our churches, and mosques, synagogues, gurdwara, and temples. I ask you to have mercy, Mr. President, on those in our communities whose children fear that their parents will be taken away. And that you help those who are fleeing war zones and persecution in their own lands. To find compassion and welcome here. Our God teaches us that we are to be merciful to the stranger, for we will all once strangers in this land. May God grant us the strength and courage to honor the dignity of every human being, to speak the truth to one another in love, and walk humbly with each other and our God. For the good of all people. The good of all people in this nation and the world. Amen. ____________ Note: This was for the National Interfaith Prayer Service at the Washington DC National Cathedral, that is traditionally held on the morning after every inauguration ceremony. By tradition, Trump was forced to sit there and listen to her.

  16. I appreciate that you thought about it, instead of just jumping in thoughtlessly. In such a manner of death, if one wishes to announce it, I feel it's best to put the crisis hotline info with it. It used to be customary for news outlets to do that, but many don't bother these days. And when such deaths happen fictionally, there used to be a PSA at the end of the show, etc. If someone is in crisis, they might not have the wherewithal to look up crisis lines, so that's why I always say to post the crisis line info with the death announcement. Just my thoughts. In addition to the hotlines I posted on the first page of this thread, here are some more. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_suicide_crisis_lines

  22. Reminder that, as of noon on Inauguration Day, the "POTUS" twitter and the the "VP" twitter accounts get turned over to the new occupants of the offices. The old twitter accounts are kept intact but the name is archived. Trump has the POTUS account again (although he usually used his personal twitter during his prior term as president.) J.D.Vance now has the VP twitter. The old accounts are preserved by the National Archives, as follows: Joe Biden's tweets as President are preserved at https://x.com/POTUS46Archive Kamala Harris' tweets as VP are preserved at https://x.com/VP46Archive Barack Obama's tweets as President are preserved at https://x.com/POTUS44 Joe Biden's tweets as VP are preserved at https://x.com/VP44 (yes I know the naming is inconsistent, but that's where they are) Tweets from Trump's prior term as president, as I said, were usually on his personal account, but anything on the POTUS account from his prior term (January 20, 2017-January 20, 2021) is preserved at https://x.com/POTUS45 Mike Pence's tweets as VP are preserved at https://x.com/VP45
