Well, no wonder it lasted nearly two years!

If a soap actor or behind the scenes figure was roasted at any point in time, who would you have at the main table? This topic came about when I imagined a Friends episode (Joey, of course, would bomb at roasting). The Roast of Deidre Hall, circa 1997 Roastmaster: Drake Hogestyn Roasters: Jed Allan, Wayne Northrop, Joseph Mascolo, Eileen Davidson, Christie Clark, Alison Sweeney, Ken Corday, James E. If J.R. wasn't busy with Ewing Oil, he'd be a heckuva soap recapper. He was SO gleeful at recapping Jenna-Bobby-Pam when the trio and Mark encountered each other at the Oil Baron's Ball. That being said, Lucy, presumably Sue Ellen and maybe Ray should all know this story, or at least part of it. Lucy was definitely at Southfork during Jenna and Bobby's relationship, and I believe Sue Ellen was about to marry J.R. around the time Jenna jilted Bobby. (Ray might not have given a damn.)

I wonder if Linda Bloodworth-Thomason had Kim in mind for any of her other characters/series. If they intended Allison Sugarbaker (Julia Duffy's character) to be more in line with who Suzanne was/Delta Burke's portrayal-persona, then I think Kim would have aced that. Yes, it would have been odd, Kim having previously played a different character (from a different family), but Designing Women wouldn't have been the first show with that issue. Or maybe Kim could have played Beth Broderick's role on Hearts Afire. Or Patricia Heaton's role on Women of the House.

My mistake. San Cristobal. I've seen it as Alamainia, Alamainland, and my personal favorite, Ubilam ("Malibu" spelled backwards). I was sticking to non-U.S. locations, but I suppose Aremid could have been Canadian. Ah, yes. Haiti?

Would someone please refresh my memory as to where on the globe these fake soap locations were? I'll give my assumptions in parenthesis. Interesting promo, @DRW50. I'm fascinated by CBS This Morning having on ABC stars. I wonder if they had any interest in reaching out to the NBC soaps.

Slightly OT. Somehow I ended up following Kami Cotler (Elizabeth, the youngest one) on Facebook, or her posts just show on my feed. She's got some great info. about the ins and outs of retro TV production.

From that same channel, Anything For Love, which failed to make NBC's 1985-86 schedule. With all due respect to Lauren Tewes and Vicki Lawrence, that this was under consideration seems less about their star power and/or chemistry and more that NBC wanted its own Kate & Allie. Still, kudos to Lauren for being rehabilitated enough in one year to already go on the comeback trail.

I had to double-check and make sure it was a real pilot, and not some sort of AI thing. Seriously, how much more random can we get?

Hurricane Sam, which failed to make CBS' 1990-91 schedule. Karen Valentine, Ben Savage (as Sam), Fran Drescher, Tim(othy) Stack, Kiersten Warren, Christopher Castile (as Fran's son!), and Ray Walston as Grandpa, plus featured guest Kurt Fuller. Excellent! The OLTL-GH promo places this and the RH episode (which I assume aired directly before this AMC) as airing during the week of Aug. 20.

Carrie, as played by Andrea Barber, was at Bo & Hope's wedding. She was the flower girl. The ringbearer was Zachary Parker, the little boy that Megan tried to pass off as her and Bo's son. Andrea's Carrie was at Tony & Anna's real wedding (Aug. 5, 1985). She appeared for the last time on March 21, 1986. Christie's Carrie debuted on April 14, 1986. It appears that Carrie remained in Salem, just off-screen, during that near-month. Christie picked up with what Andrea had been playing, apprehension over John.

Testament had a unique financial situation. It was originally intended as an American Playhouse production for PBS, then Paramount decided to release it as a film (and then it did eventually air on PBS before the pay channels). The problem was, the cast didn't get any extra money because of this. So, yeah, I can understand why Devane had his mind on his money and his money on his mind.

The ball had a certain and-now-for-something-different charm back in the day, but yeah, it's just too polished, too much of an "institution."

I can't remember who or how many people here have said it, but thanks to this site, I can't not think of the Nurse's Ball as akin to a school talent show.

Yup, that's John Mahoney, a few months before the star-studded 1986 production of The House of Blue Leaves. Also, God bless TPTB for thinking that a circus storyline was gonna grab the hearts and attention of viewers.
