Most of the progressive caucus is behind this bill atm, so I'm not worried about that. I doubt Gottheimer has the stones to blow this up, and I have a hard time believing Sinema will. But we can believe it when it's signed. I'm mostly very curious how all this happened at all. I do agree it's late in the game, but it will be a good example of a Dem majority actually doing what it's supposed to and that will be something to put some juice behind. In many ways the "Inflation Reduction Act" appears to be largely BBB with a more Manchin-friendly name that appeals to his ego and sensibilities. Meanwhile:

I don't believe it was all theater a few weeks ago, but I do suspect there was some strategy involved at least recently and it's impressive. Hopefully this will get wind in the sails of some truly dejected people both in government and out here among us, myself included. This is the kind of work the majority should've been doing all along, so I'm not going to quibble about Manchin calling it the 'Inflation Reduction Act' or only going for it out of pique, if true.

The rumor is Manchin reversed course when Mitch threatened to kill the CHIPS Bill if they did reconciliation. Manchin does not take kindly to threats (or being blamed for anything) which is why he nuked BBB last year. (OTOH, there's also a chance Schumer gamed this out weeks ago.)

I'll be damned. But I'll believe it when it's signed. The more sensible progressives don't appear to be balking at it either.

SOD: blind items
They must have asked RDA 10-20 times in the last 30 years. There's no reason to expect him to return.

David Warner is an absolute legend whose voice has never, ever left my mind since childhood. And Paul Sorvino isn't far behind. RIP.

I think Walensky's comments are beyond tone-deaf and will be dangerous, but I don't really get into doomposting from randos. I do think Biden and the CDC have been far too tentative and blinkered from the start.

Rafelson was a legend in his own time - in addition to his many great films, as part of BBS, he and his compatriots produced The Last Picture Show and the brilliant doc Hearts and Minds. His follow-up to Five Easy Pieces, The King of Marvin Gardens, is maybe my favorite of his films and still underrated. I'll be watching his Head and/or Stay Hungry tonight, though. I still have the Criterion BBS set in storage back in NYC. I need to get it back.

Despite a lot of gossip about the very talented Letitia Wright and worries, this is a very powerful teaser.- Star Trek returns with streaming series
I doubt they'll get him as he has largely withdrawn from Trek fandom (after many years of active involvement, to be fair) to focus on his other artistic pursuits, but I'd die if Avery Brooks made a voice appearance as Sisko the Emissary. As it is I will settle for Nana Visitor, Colm Meaney and/or Armin Shimerman as Quark. You can already see/hear JG Hertzler returning as Martok in the trailer, and see Sisko's father's restaurant. More on the SNW/LD crossover:- Star Trek returns with streaming series
Since this appears to the umbrella thread for other non-Picard Trek shows: V excited for this, and the announced Lower Decks/Strange New Worlds crossover. IIRC from interviews the actors/characters on LD were chosen and designed so they could portray their characters in live-action if necessary, and it sounds like we'll be seeing Tawny Newsome and Jack Quaid (among others) doing that. No clue on if they appear on SNW via either holodeck recreation of the past or time travel.- Doctor Who
RTD and his Bad Wolf production company are looking to consolidate the disparate DW streaming rights under the Disney+ umbrella. (Davies and Bad Wolf/BBC would retain control) As RTD has long talked about how his large franchise plans for Who (spinoffs, BTS shows, etc.) preceded the MCU and were what he wanted to keep building on to ensure its future, it's no surprise. He has also officially resurrected Doctor Who Confidential, which will be returning either next year or during Gatwa's first series. It's an interesting bit of synergy with something else I never knew, too: In the '60s, Disney apparently approached the BBC for the rights to the Marco Polo story.- GENERAL HOSPITAL July 2022 Discussion Thread

Time to resurrect this thread for this. @DRW50 Seems they've scrapped the movies in favor of a miniseries with Rick and Michonne, which would mark the only TWD thing I've watched in years.- The Politics Thread
A glorious thread:- Knots Landing
I'm sure he knew about Knots, he just hadn't seen it. I think he meant he would not have made her audition because she's a legend, not anything negative.- Knots Landing
@DRW50@Faulkner@titan1978 Jordan Peele discusses Donna in this interview re: Nope briefly (she's great in it in a small role early on, and it's his best film IMO and a real throwback to a genre and specific film I won't mention though many reviews have, bc I don't want to spoil it):- ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?
It's been mentioned in the Knots Landing thread along with an excellent extensive interview with her, but Donna Mills (KL, GH, LIAMST) is featured in the beginning of Jordan Peele's Nope and looks stunning as always - IMO it's his best film. See it!- Hollywood Sexual Harrasment/Assault Thread
That's news to me if so. I do know he is in a money dispute with one of his ex-reps/managers who made a point of claiming she shielded him from a 'potentially career-ending allegation,' which is clearly this.- The Politics Thread

Getting past the initial shock it was a pretty strange case tbh. It seemed like the entire rest of the family (including the parents) were implying the nephew was deeply unwell and had a long history. That doesn't mean they can't have all lined up behind Ricky to shut him up and secure the bag, of course.- ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?
I did not know that! Good for him.- Doctor Who
More Freema: She appears to have left her American show New Amsterdam ahead of its final season in order to pursue this show and other opportunities. Ryan Gosling stans Ncuti Gatwa, plus his praising Smith: Meanwhile, on the home video range: Nicola's interviews on the new Season 22 boxset are apparently very candid re: what she went through BTS and specifically I believe with John Nathan-Turner. These classic Who sets and episode discs are always very candid and expansive with features, and I need to invest in more of them.
