It feels like a long time since we've seen Steve Aldrich, hasn't it? Speaking of which, when does his snooty mother Mona come on? I'm guessing probably not for quite some time, but I've heard so many raves about actress Meg Mundy that I can't wait to see her. I've read that Laryssa Laurent was on TD for many years, so I wonder if Karen became a bit nicer and gained more empathy as time went on. For everyone's sake, I hope so!! LOL

That was easily my favorite scene from today's episode - Althea and Nick in the clinic. They laughed together, were gentle with each other and that almost-kiss - WOW is right! I am starting to like Nick more and more these days - and the chemistry between Liz Hubbard and Gerald Gordon was phenomenal. I wonder how they got along off-camera. I still wonder who or what tipped off Nathan Bunker to Althea and Nick's situation. Did anyone else laugh when Karen told the head of the board that he had no tact? Pot, meet kettle!!! The February 18 and 19 episodes both featured cameras in the frame. In the scene with Matt, Maggie, Althea and Nick in Matt's office, a camera is seen clearly in the shot on the right side of the screen after Maggie shows up and Matt is about to explain to her about the meeting of the board. In the next episode, the camera can be seen coming into the shot from the left side in Bill and Ruth's home after Danny goes up to bed and Bill heads for the liquor cabinet.

ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?
Richard Eden (Brick, SB) wrote on FB a few days ago that he is ready to return to acting after a number of years behind the camera (he and his wife have their own production company). So hopefully, we will see him on-screen again before too long!

Watching their storyline, I have to wonder if a lot of middle-aged couples from that era were like Bill and Ruth and if Rita Lakin was inspired to write about it. The two may have been in love once but have since drifted completely apart. Social drinking was the norm back then, and a lot of people became alcoholics behind their own closed doors. The husband throws himself into his work, and the wife - childless and feeling unworthy - turns to the bottle as her only comfort. Sadly, Danny would be better off at the orphanage than being adopted by these two. It would be a toxic environment for any child. The home scenes remind me of one of my all-time favorite shows, which happened to be still in production while all of these stories were going on in this soap opera - Bewitched. Like Samantha and Darrin Stephens, Drs. Matt and Maggie Powers have one of those bars in their living room and often head right to it when they walk in the door after a hard day's work. Elizabeth Hubbard, with her blond hair in that flip and headbands, wearing those sleeveless yet casual dresses, reminds me of another Elizabeth - Elizabeth Montgomery (and both Elizabeths were born in 1933). One more thought about Ruth - who else thinks she is going to steal any of those babies when no one is looking?

I've seen so very little of Joan Copeland's SFT work, but it seems hard to imagine anyone else in that role but her. Is she retired now? The last I saw of her was in a recurring role as a judge on the original L&O, but that was years ago.

Both of today's episodes were Ruth-centric. Poor lady, having to put up with that husband of hers. I like how subtle the show has made it clear that theirs has been an abusive relationship - mostly psychologically abusive (ironic, isn't it?), though we did see Bill slap Ruth in his office at one point when she went into hysterics. Ann Whiteside's acting and facial expressions clearly conveyed how beaten and broken Ruth was emotionally - especially her eyes. On another note, does Karen Werner have the worst bedside manner of any TV doctor in history or what? I'm surprised none of the patients have complained! Can't you just hear her now? "You have cancer, huh? Walk it off! SCHNELL!!!"

Thoughts from today's episodes: - Let us all be grateful that Karen Werner was not there at the hotel when Liz was on the ledge. - LOVED Maggie's dressing down to Karen. Yes, Karen is definitely lacking in the tact department!!! GO MAGGIE!!! - That Nathan Bunker is just like a fungus that won't stop growing! - The heart-to-hearts between Liz, Matt and Maggie, and Maggie and Althea were very heart-warming and shed light on both insecurities and strengths. - It's great that Liz is once again moving in with Carolee.

I don't know how recent this is, but here is some info on Pam Toll from a website of a film called "Alternate Routes", which she co-wrote. Here is the bio: PAMELA TOLL (Writer) is a native New Yorker who began a thirty-five year professional acting career at the age of seven. She grew up working with some of the finest directors and actors of the time. Ms. Toll co-starred and starred in roles on Broadway, on television and in film, regularly commuting between NY and LA. Looking for new outlets, Pam became an Artistic Design Consultant with the Leonard Bernstein Center for Education through the Arts. In the fine arts, her mosaic works can be found in stores from California to New York to North Carolina. In addition to co-authoring ALTERNATE ROUTES, Pamela has another script in progress. The most recent challenge she has set for herself is the development of a workshop on artistic creativity. If you click on the link and scroll down, you will see a picture of her. You can tell right away that it's the same girl!!! http://happenstanceproductions.com/altroutemovie/bios.htm

Well, Beverlee McKinsey was quoted in the AW 35th Anniversary Book as saying that she never, ever got any fan backlash from playing Iris. She said that the fans would say things to her along the lines of, "well, if I was rich like Iris, I would probably do some of those things too". Ms. McKinsey did go on to say that she got awful, awful letters when she played Alexandra Spaulding at the height of that character's villainy. So, there's one example of a female playing the villainess and not getting any pushback.

Pam Toll left TD for a brief period to film the Disney movie, Rascal, with Steve Forrest and Billy Mumy. The movie was released in 1969.

Y&R: Old Articles
With Julianne Morris' return to Y&R as Amy after nearly 20 years, does anyone have any vintage articles of her from her first go-round on the show? I'm not familiar with her Y&R work, though I did catch almost her entire run on DAYS later on. On another note, knowing all we know now, I'm REALLY glad she never married Eddie Cibrian - though I bet no one is gladder than her!!

Speaking of live-on-tape gaffes, did anyone catch what Terry Kiser said in the argument John had with Liz about Nick? The line was supposed to be "sacrificial lamb", and instead Terry Kiser said "artificial lamb".
