  1. Researched it, six years, 10 million dollars, and one NY Times op-ed piece, "Bushy" has never offered an apology to Ms. Zucker From NY Magazine Put yourself in the shoes of Zucker, who now knows Bush’s on-camera attempt to get Trump and Zucker to kiss was preceded moments before by Trump telling Bush about how he grabs women by their genitals. If you were Zucker, the audio tape might sting a bit less if Bush acknowledged that you weren’t just a body to be objectified but a successful actress with a hugely loyal fan base. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/12/03/opinion/billy-bush-trump-access-hollywood-tape.html
  2. Someone recently mentioned the Days novels by Sheri Anderson , A Secret in Salem and A Stirring from Salem, which I really enjoyed. In particular, I liked the characterization of Abby, being a social media savvy journalist who was bringing her parent's paper into the 21st century. It was an interesting idea to make non-canonical stories using classic characters, and it may have influenced the current Peacock spin-offs. They gave John another kid that has never been mentioned, and nobody seems to be eager to explore. I wonder what happened that the final book in the trilogy was never published? It was promoted as a series, and the two other books have around 50 reviews on Amazon which suggests that they were commercially successful, and obviously cheap to produce. They were published by the same company that did Ken Corday's memoir (totally worth the read) and one of the anniversary books in the same time period. Did they bring Sheri Anderson on to write the main show, fire her, and rescind the book offer?
  3. I think this is her, the iconic hairdo is gone, but the nose remains the same https://www.realtor.com/realestateagents/5961cb1dd15b1c001117c3b8
  4. I was referring to the publicity around Kristian Alfonso's exit when production suggested "resting" the character of Hope because they didn't know what to do with her. From Entertainment Tonight: Days of Our Lives alum confessed to being perplexed when the writers decided to take her character off for 4-5 months, but it came as a blessing in disguise, as she took the opportunity to change the course of her life. Alfonso has decided to bid adieu to Days for good and is not planning to make guest appearances. She also shared that Corday had told her that the show would never recast her character.
  5. I may be wrong, but I tend to think producers are not as interested in recasting "classic" characters like Hope or Thorne who were played by actors who left because the roles were so under-served. Which is why my bet is on a younger character who is still key to a storyline but recently left the canvas. B&B may be the possible exception because they still play the Ridge/Brooke generation as if they were 30somethings, not grandparents.
  6. Thank you, I recall seeing him recently on TV, and I thought it may have been an award show, but this is the reference. I am honestly sad for her loss, and it solidifies the old adage that you never know what someone else may be going through, so be kind.
  7. #1 My first thought was GH - Jason Morgan, but I guess Drew is a de-facto recast. Then, I went to Y&R because they are the kings of recast (Noah, Chase) and thought maybe Kyle and/or Summer since they are still referenced so often? #2 I agree with the consensus that it is one of the younger GH cast on recurring due to college, just because it would be so easy to cast someone the same age who is more available. #3 My bet is DAYS will see lots of exits, and I think Jake and Gabi aka Camila Banus & Brandon Barash (who have both previously received walking papers) will depart given the fact that they were not highlighted within the Marlena possession plot, nor during the Peacock spin-offs, which makes the characters seem expendable. Plus, the return of EJ and and ascendance of Johnny makes Jake unnecessary. #4 - I'm going with Arianne Zucker and Galen Gerring because they just think their story is too amusing and can't keep a straight face on set - but I would bet there are no consequences whatsoever because they are both usually pro's on camera.
  8. Best - Going back 40 year, but Catherine Hickland's wig as Jenny Diamond on Capitol has always transfixed me. How did they get it to be so tight to her head? Worst - I'm going to have to give it to Kelly Ripa's rat's nest on AMC when she was introduced as Hayley - it never quite sat correctly on top of her head
  9. That could be one of a million people. However, my first thought was of the leading ladies of a prior generation who played mean characters such as: Eileen Fulton (although she was still employed at the time), Morgan Fairchild (who seemed to have a stellar reputation), or Donna Mills (who wouldn't be considered East Coast if someone were making clues). And it makes no sense that people would be talking about Louise Shaffer or Ann Williams at a Hollywood party in 1999.
  10. It is disgusting to me that Billy Bush still treats this incident as if he was the victim and not Arianne Zucker. Has he ever publicly offered her an apology? Has he ever promoted her career on one of his shows? Has he ever interviewed her on how she coped with the humiliation of trying to do her job while two grown men giggled behind her back saying they would "grab her by the !@#$%^&*]"? After all, Billy Bush got 10 million dollars and then bounced right back to a new show, while many still don't know Ms. Zucker's name. https://twitter.com/DailyMailCeleb/status/1484324898738561028?s=20 https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-10423655/Billy-Bush-opens-alcohol-abuse-fired-NBC.html?ito=social-twitter_dailymailceleb
  11. Two quibbles (1) How does Stephanie's former lover from the Middle East recognize her when even her husband and children were unable to do so after the surgery? (2) The writers needed to be a bit more creative with the names. The men in the series are so generically 80s handsome that it is difficult to tell them apart. And, they're all named Jack, John, and Joe. They needed soapy names like Spyder, Snake, or Steele to help the audience differentiate between the characters. Maybe she was a melange of Gina Rinehart and Elle Macpherson, who, unbeknownst to most, started her modeling career after being bitten on the hip by a koala (JK)?
  12. By the way, Stephanie Harper is obviously based on Gina Rinehart, a notoriously frumpy, multi-married, mining heiress. She became infamous for fighting her step-mother over her father's will and later being sued by her children for denying them their inheritance. She was the basis of her own miniseries House of Hancock, which the producers later had to make a public apology for offending her, after she attempted to buy the television station that ran the movie. Here's miniseries
  13. This 1986 Aussie soap had me hook, line, and sinker last night and I was surprised to see that there was no thread devoted to it on SON. There is something about those 1980s Aussie soaps that feeds my need for campy night time plot driven drama. Here's a link to the complete series synopsis http://www.australiantelevision.net/return-to-eden/series1.html it is also all on Youtube It started as a three-part miniseries, and then went on to a 22 episode one season run. It was cancelled at the end of the first season and a five minute wrap up was produced for syndication and foreign markets to complete the story. The plot is an immediate banger. Stephanie Harper is a frumpy 40-year-old mining heiress with two kids and two divorces. After her father dies and leaves her a fortune, her third husband turns out to be a disloyal golddigger. In the opening episode, Stephanie, her husband, and her friend/enemy go on a boat trip, but they throw Stephanie overboard to be eaten by crocodiles! The death by the slowest moving crocodile, in the shallowest river in Australia is cinematic gold! (scene below) Unbeknownst to them, Stephanie survives, thanks to the work of an amazing plastic surgeon, wig maker, and personal trainer. Then, she returns to Sydney to get her revenge. Of course, like most 40 year old formerly frumpy women Stephanie finds success as a supermodel, after walking into an agent's office and announcing that she wants to be on the cover of Vogue within one year. The rest of plot twists are equally outrageous. By the end, Stephanie, her goldigger husband, and her son all find their long lost half siblings. Stephanie returns from the dead a second time, while learning to overcome her fear of crocodiles. And everyone finds love. I am eager to discuss this at length with others who have memories of the series, so I encourage you to either read the synopsis or watch it as soon as possible.
  14. Yeah, Kris Jenner who just got a Hulu deal for her family is going to moonlight on Bravo as a friend of? I think not...
  15. It is funny you should mention that because I follow Michael Maelor (ex-Kyle Y&R) on social media, so I know from the neighborhood which building he lives in. Given the percentage taken by agents, managers, and taxes, his take home pay makes him barely eligible for the rent in that building. But, one would imagine that in the 1990s an actor with a three year contract on a soap could at least afford to buy a 1 br condo.
  16. Not just breakfast, but Mamie's famous cinnamon rolls, which require a double rise, so that's an extra 2-2 1/2 hours!
  17. It is an ironic, but typical, NY Post headline because the it leads you to believe there are a lot of truths, and then the manager makes a statement at the end that there are no truths. I tend to believe she is debilitated, and it is very sad, whether or not you agree with her, she was always entertaining and social, and yet she seems very alone during this struggle
  18. To be fair, even Augusta never hated Lionel. She was a little vindictive toward him when he first returned to Santa Barbara, but as soon as the earthquake hit in the first summer, and Augusta was blinded, Lionel tried to romance her and stood by her side. Most of their marital issues occurred off screen in order to facilitate the exit or re-entry of the actors. So, Julia never really had a reason to hold a grudge against Lionel. In the end, his charm and finesse outweighed whatever difficulties he had with commitment.
  19. Talk about how some guys always get a date - Joss Whedon got married again after the scandal about his affairs (which started with an op-ed by his ex-wife), degrading women, disrespecting minority actors, bullying underage actresses, and difficulties with anger management. And from today's article he does not seem particularly repentant, insightful, nor charming. Meanwhile, I've not met anyone new since the start of the pandemic, and I've never cussed out a supervisee in my entire career!
  20. Isn't interesting to think about this through the lens of what we know now about the sexist conflicts between Linda Bloodworth-Thomason and Les Moonves? I was pondering if Bloodworth-Thomason would have waited close to twenty years before exposing Moonves in today's media culture. Her shows were slow to start ratings-wise, but such cultural powerhouses, that I think she would have had more freedom today to speak out about why her shows were not getting promotion or were stuck in bad timeslots. Seeing how she dominated the 90s then was sent into relative obscurity is really fascinating in contrast to men who were given more chances based on fewer successes. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/general-news/designing-women-creator-les-moonves-not-all-harassment-is-sexual-1142448/
  21. I recall french doors on the rear wall leading out to the gardens at the time when Chase was doing lawn maintenance and romancing Nina.
  22. When I recall Y&R this is what I think of, (1) people talking to themselves in mirrors, (2) so-called contemporary stories about women, and (3) great music cues. What I didn't recall was that John Considine originated the role of Phillip Chancellor II, or that Katherine had another maid before Esther. And certainly this is not the configuration of Kay's living room that I recall, the fireplace is on the wrong wall, and there are no french doors out to the patio. (BTW, I encourage anyone to join TikTok just to follow this creator who posts lots of vintage soap scenes. As I've noted before I think full "classic" episodes are a bit boring, but I adore these bits and pieces.) (Also, gotta love those computer generated captions - "isn't Gil's dungeon today?") 23. I agree with @Soaplovers that we need to watch the early episodes through the lens of the times. However, I cannot get over the unwavering confidence of Ridge. He is written as completely omniscient, he knows exactly what Kristen, Thorne, and Stephanie need. He is supposed to be in his late-20s, but he already has everything figured out and is great at everything he tries. There is no business learning curve because his designs are universally adored and his father provides no edits or critiques. From Kristen's bachelorette party we learn that he knows every successful unmarried guy in LA, and they all think he's great. Bill Spencer is seemingly the only person in Southern California who doesn't buy into his cult of personality. I guess I just wish that after Caroline dumped him, he was allowed one moment of negative self introspection or self-doubt. Or, maybe a hipper guy like Rocco would make fun of his affinity for black speedos. Instead the character is free of any conflict, except being loved too much by his mother and his girlfriends.
  24. I was watching today's upload ep346, from 1988. The dialogue is bizarre. Nobody has a specific voice or vocabulary. For example, Brooke is lounging at the pool with Ridge apres-nooky, and she tells him that he "made Sir Galahad look like Pee Wee Herman." I guess that means he was good in bed, but what 20something girl from the valley would use that reference? Even Rocco sounds like a parody of a teen rather than an actual human.
