General Hospital: January 2023 Discussion Thread
That's funny because I was just thinking that we've visited the well of Carly's parents one too many times between John Durant and Frank Benson. The woman is a grandmother, I don't think we need anymore backstory, her motivations are well established. And I think we need to give Nina's time in a coma a proverbial rest as well.

One Life to Live Tribute Thread
My understanding has always been that Victor Lord partnered with Peter Manning's father to create the Lord/Manning manufacturing business (because Harry et al pre-date Todd). Which is how Victoria became childhood friends with siblings Irene and Peter. Then, Victor either purchased or established the newspaper business which became Victoria's primary interest. So, the Lord fortune was from a conglomeration of companies. Irene conceived Tina, Todd, and Victor Jr with Victor (her consent was questionable). Todd was adopted by Peter, and Victor was secretly raised by Irene (after she faked her death while married to the not fake Ted Clayton, who Tina thought was her father). The lore is that the character of Todd was established without a surname, he was just Frat Boy #2. The Manning name was at first just a coincidence created to give a Todd a last for his trial. Later, when the character became popular, and the writers wanted to establish more backstory and sympathy for Todd, it was established that he was abused son of Peter who was angry over raising his nephew. But, while later writers continued to base stories on the Lord media companies, the manufacturing business was rarely mentioned.

General Hospital: January 2023 Discussion Thread
It's a blessing in disguise that Jax will never return, so we'll never know why he and Frank Benson thought that Nelle would be an organ donor match for Jocelyn, given that Frank was aware that both Carly and Nelle were adopted. Unless, it somehow comes out that Nina and Carly are related because Bobbie, Obreact, and Madeline were all secretly triplets, which is why Tim Spencer wanted to kill Lena, and was then killed by Luke - but that's too convoluted even for GH (tee hee).

(1) - @AbcNbc247 You make an excellent point about Willow and a baby switch. I don't care where Nina gave birth, no woman in the past 25 years has been unknowingly pregnant with twins, (fathered by a doctor), and carried them to term. (2) - It's odd that Nikolas's exit is in the next two weeks, but we haven't seen him since the Esme baby reveal (3) I only want Luke back if he's still sporting this kicky hairdo

Days: January 2023 Discussion Thread
I think the issue we can all agree upon is that Jamey, Ron, all of the Housewives, and most other creatives are alienating their fans through their interactions on social media. They've got the job. They need to stop living in their mentions and getting provoked by people seeking their attention. Social media has proven to not be an accurate indicator of public opinion because it represents a small fraction of the audience. They all need to demonstrate some maturity, stop "clapping back", and just show their gratitude that anyone wants to consume their product.

Days: January 2023 Discussion Thread
I guess somebody has to run the pub, but it seems like a weird job to befall upon Roman. Is he retired from the ISA? Did anyone think to ask Bonnie, given her prior restaurant management experience? And when did it become a bar, rather than a diner counter?

Y&R January 2023 Discussion Thread
Forgive me if this topic is too sensitive, but Stafford's eye job is too severe. Don't get me wrong, she is still very beautiful, but the work is remarkable. I understand the desire to get a little tweak done in a career where youth is revered. But, it is always an issue with soap actors who we see everyday for years, when all of the sudden it looks like their eye sockets have been sucked toward the back of their skull (e.g. Jerry Douglas aka John Abbott back in the day)

Rachael Ray’s daytime talk show may be ending
The more you know.... I had no idea that Rachael was so insufferable. But, in hindsight, it is kind of mean that her team (like the younger gay gentleman who would develop recipes, the makeover team, and the Aussie organization guy ) were never featured during the pandemic episodes. It might have been refreshing (although understandably hard to produce) to show some of the show regulars in their homes contributing information.

The comparison to MOD is that both films were being sabotaged by their own production. In both cases it was an inside job that prevented the films from being completed and released. Jamie wrote the screenplay with the help of his editor Mark Singleton. Jamie was dating Stacey, Cass's sister, but his drug use ended that relationship so she started dating Mark. It terms of the scandal, my vague memory was that it was Pat who was embarrassed by the book, because it had references to her murder trial. But, it is very likely that I am incorrect and I would appreciate anyone who recalls the specifics of that story.

Bravo's The Real Housewives of....
I wonder about this sudden 11th hour shift in blame toward Coach Shah? I mean the editors certainly made the case over the past two episodes that Coach is cringey and likes to exert control, like in those scenes with both Angies (H&K). But, is Heather showing her final attempt at solidarity to Jen by throwing Coach under the bus? Would he really demand that his wife go to federal prison to cover his own liability, as Heather suggested? Maybe rather than being a calming force for Jen's histrionics, her volatility was in reaction to her marriage to a man who prioritized his dreams of being a coach over his role of a husband and father? On the one hand it is hard to believe that this former lawyer never questioned his wife's career activities, when everyone else in SLC was constantly opining on the source of her income. Yet, on the other hand, they've always made the point in prior seasons that Coach traveled a lot, which was the excuse when he missed Jen's father's funeral. So it is not inconceivable that he was either unaware or unconcerned about Jen's schemes.

It's one of those good/idea bad execution stories. The idea of Jamie being an author because Mac owns a publishing company and Rachel was also in the creative field made sense. The fact that the book was a roman a clef that embarrassed some of his relatives was interesting. But, the contrivances of having the movie adaptation film in Bay City, and the similarities to the Mansion of the Damned story on Edge of Night, were ludicrous.

Days: January 2023 Discussion Thread
It is an odd day when the Writer's Guild grants an award to a guy who cannot even craft a grammatically correct tweet. In celebration did they 'drink us' some champagne? On another note, we've all talked about the pacing, but Kate just died and Roman already has her ashes? From personal experience it takes more than a month to get the ashes back from a cremation. It's not like a consolation prize that the hospital gives you upon your exit. Although, I guess, one could conceivably get an urn engraved within hours at one of those Things Remembered stores in the local mall. So, it may be that he just has the urn and is waiting for the ashes which leaves the possibility of Kate's resurrection. It was an unintentionally campy moment when Rex and Lucas were naming all of Kate's children that needed to be contacted, but no mention of Chelsea.

Another World Discussion Thread
I've always had a problem with the troupe of long lost children of soap tycoons becoming suddenly wealthy, even though they weren't in their father's will, because legally just being someone's child doesn't give you the rights of inheritance if there is an estate plan, and only people named in a will can contest it while it is in probate. However, I recently thought about another issue that is especially illogical. Paulina learned that she was sired by Mac after his death. Yet, somehow she began calling herself Paulina Cory. Now, Mac could not have adopted Paulina, and I doubt Rachel would have supported a court ordered name change at the time that Paulina discovered her paternity. So how could she have that surname? Similarly, Dennis found out that Alex, not Elliott, was his father when he was in his 20s. Now, it made sense that Iris would carry on the Wheeler name because she was Alex's widow. And, I guess, from a writer's point of view they wanted to establish the connection between mother and son when Dennis returned in 1991. However, Alex wouldn't have had time to adopt Dennis before he died and Dennis grew up with the last name of Carrington. So, why would he suddenly be a Wheeler? I am willing to accept that Marley and Vicky changed their names from Love to Hudson in order to honor Michael (even though Marley had already been married when she changed her name), but this Dennis and Paulina thing really annoys me (even though it is thirty years later).

B&B January 2023 Discussion Thread
B&B writers seem to not even have the knowledge of the law that a single episode of Law & Order SVU would provide and it's driving me nuts. Why would a judge, rather than the DA, be deciding if there is enough evidence to prosecute Sheila? That's not how the system works. And, if that logic is too much, let's deal with why would the judge let Ridge use his office to make a phone call - doesn't anyone in faux-LA own a cell phone? OK, maybe that's too persnickety - so, then let's ask why would Steffy & Finn state their refusal to testify without speaking to Taylor first? Shouldn't she help them make that decision? All of these illogical choices have got me more focused on the order of events than the story.

- Rachael Ray’s daytime talk show may be ending
Yeah, also when her house burnt down and then we followed the multi-million dollar renovation of her kitchen, she lost some relate-ability points.- Rachael Ray’s daytime talk show may be ending
With the quick cancellation of The Good Dish and failure of The Chew, I wonder if there's an audience for a cooking/chat show? The British do it well with their weekend brunch shows, but I think US daytime fans don't find this combination of topics appealing. Maybe it is the many dietary restrictions of US celebrities that would keep them from appearing on a cooking show? Or fans just don't like to watch people eat. But viewers do not support this genre. I think that the discussion around cultural appropriation, along with time limits, and the sponsors dictating ingredients, limits the number of recipes that can be demonstrated. I mean how many twenty minute pasta recipes do we need? After 17 years, I get it, boil the water, saute something, mix the pasta, add the starchy cooking water - done.- Rachael Ray’s daytime talk show may be ending
It's not looking good for Rachael. Personally, I've liked the show better since the pandemic when she got rid of the audience and started cooking in a real kitchen (I despise when an audience cheers every time a chef salts a pot of food), but I guess that's really just a Food Network show, not a daytime talk show. Rachael Ray’s eponymous daytime talk show may be on the chopping block after 17 seasons, according to TV insiders. “Her show is ending. This will be the last season,” one industry source speculated. Another TV source told us they wouldn’t be surprised if the show went away because, “it hasn’t been doing well for a while. It’s easy to forget that it’s even on.” https://pagesix.com/2023/01/11/rachael-rays-talkshow-may-be-coming-to-an-end/?utm_medium=SocialFlow&utm_source=P6Twitter&utm_campaign=SocialFlow Meanwhile Tameron Hall is still chugging along and I never hear a word about that show in the press- Passions Discussion Thread

I think the problem with Jade and Laken is that they were always going to be made redundant by Kelly. Sure, the show had a bifurcated story for the first summer with a teen plot and an adult plot. But, after the first year what stories could Laken play that weren't better told using Kelly? Yes, the show needed different class structures and Jade served as the ingenue who aspired for upward mobility. But, Laken had no definite personality or role (as a character, actress aside). She wasn't a professional like Julia who could try cases, she didn't have any chronic stressors like Mason or Gina which would haunt her future relationships. She loved and admired her parents, so she was never rebellious even when her grandmother killed her bird. They set up the character for failure by never giving her any distinct obstacles regardless of who they cast.- Days: January 2023 Discussion Thread
This may be a very minor point, but I wish Alex had a career specialization. We know Stephanie is in PR (although she always needs help crafting press statements which seem a bit out of date by the time she finishes), Wendy is in IT, and Chad is in management. Alex would be helped by having a unique job within the company to make him seem more valuable than just being a nepo-baby. I know someone will reply that Alex is too dumb to have a special skill, but I think every character needs a purpose. On the other hand, I was surprised to see that Sloan is a lawyer. It is rare to get a new professional on soaps these days, so it is nice to see someone who can play a role in other stories than just be a romantic heroine. I mean its been a couple of decades and I still don't get what Eric, Nicole, and Brady do for a living. I hope in the adjustment to Peacock we'll get more integration of stories than the previous production method allowed. For example, it would be interesting to see how Gwen and her staff at the paper respond to Stephanie's PR crisis. I want to know if Allie and Wendy buy Gabi's fashion line. I want DAYS to go back to feeling as if it takes place in a community where each decision has a consequence on the other characters, rather than isolated living rooms. - Rachael Ray’s daytime talk show may be ending
